UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva prepares for a very dangerous test on April 10 when he faces grappling wizard Demian Maia at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi. "The Spider" has two of his four losses come via submission and recognizes that anything can happen inside the cage. Still, he has to be encouraged by the faceplant Maia took when he stood with Nate Marquardt and seems confident in his ongoing training. Will his 10-fight winning streak inside the Octagon come to an end -- or keep on trucking when they meet this April?

I hate Damien Maia
I think he sucks as a figher and is boring as hell to watch. YES his jiu jitsu is at an amazing level but there is not a chance in the world that he will be able to out handle a world class MMA fighter at the top of their game in the top ranks in his division. He is boring and has no standup. He barely got that decision win over a guy thats not even ranked. Maia is a loser…I hate watching his fights and am ticked about this title shot he got…I hope Anderson smashes him in the fisrt round and drops him out of the rankings….

couldn’t have said it better. Maia doesn’t suck as a fighter, he is NOT a fighter at all, he strikes like a 10 yr old and is a complete rookie rolling around in bathing shorts.

Maia got KTFO by Marquardt in 10 seconds, I expect his fight against Silva to have a similar outcome. Maia’s BJJ is world class, but he is a piss-poor striker and boring as hell to watch.

Maia is a winner…I love watching his fights and am interested about this title shot he got…

His jitsu only works on lower class fighters and that includes cheal sonnen…Just because he manhandled Nate, who had no offense off his back does not justify him being a top tier fighter. He gets caught in submissions all the time from someone that throws and throws diff moves….

Demian’s not ready for Andy yet, stylistically he could be a match-up for Andy in the future because top grapplers have been his kryptonite in the past and nobody has better BJJ than Maia in MMA, but right now his takedowns and striking aren’t good enough to deal with Andy, improved striking or not he’s going to get KO’d before he gets the fight to the ground.

You’ve obviously never seen Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza who now fights for Strikeforce. They have faced off a few times in BJJ Championships and have never submitted each other. The matches are always won by points. The only difference is, Jacare has a fairly good standup game as well, and is stronger in no gi than Demian is.
Love some Maia though, and I hope he can get this fight to the ground for an exciting fight, or it will end quickly.

If you look at tatame.com it is clearly an interview (I don’t speak Portuguese) . So Anderson isn’t speaking out now that Vitor fight is off. He was interviewed about Vitor being injured and Maia stepping up to the plate.
Let's not forget
Vitor hasn’t even fought at MW in the UFC and that is one of the main reasons Ed Soares in particular(and a lot of people, for that matter) weren’t too keen on it. But to say he’s scared…come on, dude. It’s Anderson Fuckin Silva.

But it is fishy his manager didn’t want him to fight Hendo or Vitor because of essentially not “earning” the shot, but has no problem with Silva fighting Maia who was knocked out and decisioned Miller in his last two fights.

If anyone was scared about the Andy-Vitor fight it was the Phenom, he’s the one who has been a mental midget in the past and he’s the one who pulled out of the fight. Vitor is the man but there is no way that Andy was scared of him. As for Maia he’s the only guy left to fight, Hendo left, Nate lost and Vitor and Sonnen are injured. It was either Demian or nobody, no idea why people are blaming Andy for this mess.

Pride MW Champion?
Must have been in an alternate fucking universe, because Anderson’s teammate (the axe throwing Silva) was the reigning Pride MW Champion for the entirety of the organization until their next to last event.
Anderson fared average in Pride going 3-2 in 5 fights and being cut by the promotion twice. He was, however the last Cage Rage Middleweight champion.

I just don’t know that any of these guys are particularly afraid to fight anyone… He looks to be showing some humility as it stands anyway, talking about how he could not give a good performance and walk away with a loss.
I think the whole scared thing when it comes to fighters is over-played, really. It’s a business and these guys are cagefighters… I just don’t see ‘being afraid’ being a factor. Really it seldom is, unless you have the rumors about so-and-so ducking so-and-so…
‘Afraid’ or not, they go in there basing it all on their training and perform based on that. They’re professionals, not really in the business of being too scared to go to recess.

I dont hate Lesnar or Carwin....
I just like Mir better then both of them. Lesnar is a Gigantic beast and that helps him win his fights. Its not evenly matches when it comes to his power and size. I dont care who you are, but if your gonna argue common sense then thats stupid…A guy that has wrestling skills and weighs as much as a truck and is a beast will easily be able to outhandle a guy that is as technical is Mir is…just plain simple…Carwin, i have no comment accept he got rocked by gonazaga a couple times….that goes to show he will fall like a brick….
