Bedlam at Bitetti: Jeff Monson and Paulo Filho removed from Feb. 25 card (Updated)

Bitetti_combat_medium
Seems like the UFC isn't the only promotion to be snake-bitten on the heels of a major event.

Somebody on the Bitetti roster must have gone all Bobby Brady and unearthed an ancient Tiki when they got to Brazil, because the bad luck continues to befall the Feb. 25 fight card just hours before showtime.

Cocky and stocky submission specialist Jeff Monson has been scratched from the Bitetti Combat 6 event after encountering some issues in the U.S. and was unable to make the flight to Brazil. Fortunately event organizers have a deep pool of alternates, as Joaquim "Mamute" Ferreira has agreed to step in and face Glover Teixeira.

Also missing in action is Paulo Filho, who Tatame.com reports had "flight trouble" and could not make the scheduled weigh-in time. This comes just days after "Ely" backed out of the event -- only to rejoin it when original opponent Yuki Sasaki refused to fight Filho's replacement Thales Leites.

The troubled Brazilian eventually agreed to return, pitting Leites against Rico Washington in the main event, but now word comes out of PVT that Filho is off the card for good and Sasaki has opted not to fight an alternate.

Adding insult to injury (or insult AND injury in this case), Fabio Maldonado suffered a late hand injury and will not be able to compete against Guto Inocente. No word on a replacement at this time.

Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for Bitetti Combat 6 results and quick recap immediately following the event.

This isnt a very good promotion to say the least

Their last couple cards haven’t provided very good fights & the size of their crowds are comparable to OVW Wrestling shows in Louisville, KY.

The promotion is just in the beginning, Felix.

It’s hard to deal with fighter’s “personal problems”. See UFC vs Rampage just to cite one case. Monson couldn’t come over once more, what the hell Amaury Bitetti can do?
They’re doing much better for this event and I agree the latest one was a shame speaking on audience.

I am actually happy that monson is out....

i’d much rather see Texiera vs Mamute. I don’t care much to see the snowman gas and get sprawl and brawled on. Even on the mat he still won’t be do anything to Texeira. Mamute is actually very dynamic and has the skills to catch him.

The fights havent been that great either. I’ve seen 2 cards and wasn’t that impressed.

Clusterfuck

wow, what a joke! So, they don’t show up to the weigh-ins, yet they can still fight. shows you how legit these companies are. I hate when ppl bash the UFC when it’s the smaller companies who are the most unprofessional. Reminds me of the Cyborg-Akano weigh-ins, what a joke.

Tito interviewing Babalu: "I want to tell me what you see, let's go ahead and see by the fight, what you saw, in the ring."

Thales Leites has been very supportive for the event and I agree that’s bad for the show but it even so has to go on.

LOL at people all up in arms.

You all should be more exposed to regional MMA than you are. This happens all the time; I would wager 90% of regional shows have 4 to 5 card changes from the time they’re first announced. Especially in Brazil. This is by far the most organized and professional MMA promotion ever ran in the country, people. Get exposed.
