World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) will invade the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio for the first time tonight (Sat., Mar. 6) with WEC 47: "Bowles vs. Cruz."
The event is set to feature bantamewight champion Brian Bowles' first title defense since capturing the crown from Miguel Torres seven months ago. The first challenger to his reign will be lightning quick striker Dominick Cruz.
Former champion Miquel "Angel" Torres, Joseph Benavidez, Jens "Little Evil" Pulver, Javier "Showtime" Vazquez, L.C. Davis, Deividas Taurosevicius and others will also be in action on the card.

WEC 47 PLAY-BY-PLAY LIVE MAIN CARD COMMENTARY:
WEC Bantamweight Champion Brian Bowles vs. Dominick Cruz (135-pound limit)
Round one: Gloves touch and we're underway for the WEC bantamweight crown. Cruz looks bouncy and he unloads a couple hard leg kicks. Cruz leans in and Bowles just misses with two heaters. Another exchange and Cruz lands on a nice counter to Bowles' chin. Bowles misses on an overhand right. Cruz now connects on a nice right hand. Cruz is doing a lot of dancing around, making things difficult for Bowles. He misses on a hard two punch combo. Leg kick lands and Bowles counters with a hard right hand. Cruz with a leg kick and Bowles swings and misses on another wild right hand. Stiff jab connects for Cruz. Cruz leans in again and Bowls makes him pay with that right hand. Cruz goes stumbling back into the fence, but he keeps his feet under him. Bowles starting to look comfortable and he throws another right hand that misses. Cruz counters and drills the champ with a right hand right on the chin. He felt that one for sure. Bowles backpedaling with a bouncy Cruz hopping in front of him. Both fights miss with haymakers. Jab from Cruz. Bowles leans in with a combo again and leaves his chin wide open for another nice counter punch from the challenger. Cruz is winning most of the exchanges here. Another right hand lands for Cruz. Bowles leans in again and Cruz gets a takedown now. Bowles with full guard here and Cruz working ground strikes on top of him. He's back to his feet and there's some blood coming from the nose of the champion. Cruz lands a leg kick and Bowles counters with a power right hand as the bell rings. Clear round for the challenger. Bowles has some adjustments to make in his corner.
Round two: Bowles now looking bouncy here to start round two. They exchange and Bowles is looking to land nothing but power strikes and he's getting out struck because of it. Nice hard leg kick lands for Cruz. More jabs from Cruz landing on the champ's bloody nose. Bowles now with a couple hard jabs. Cruz flurrying with punches now and Bowles is covering up. A leg kick puts him on his butt now. He pops right back up with a frustrated look on his face. Hard leg kick from Cruz but Bowles counters with a hard right hand that finds a home. More leg kicks from the challenger. Nice punch combinations landing from Cruz. Bowles with a clinch and Cruz lands a knee to the body. It's low. The referee steps in and Cruz gets a warning. Back underway. Cruz leaning in with more jerky punches. Bowles has no answer as he tries to clinch, but grabs air. Cruz is so fast and unorthodox. Bowles is really frustrated here. Now he lands a big punch, but Cruz isn't fazed and he fires right back. A double leg out of nowhere for Cruz and the champ is on his back again. The round ends there and Bowles is down two rounds to none. There's word now from the cageside doctor that Brian Bowles can't continue due to a broken hand. He is not going to answer the bell and this fight is over. Dominick Cruz is the new WEC 135 pound champion. This is not the way anybody wanted this fight to end, but Cruz is definitely a deserving champion.

Joseph Benavidez vs. Miguel Torres (135-pound limit)
Round one: Miguel towered over Benavidez during the staredown and he looks as focused as ever. This fight has fireworks written all over it. Here we go. Torres is circling as Benavidez waits in the center. Leg kick from Miguel. Both fighters throw leg kicks simultaneously with neither landing. Leg kick lands now for Torres. Benavidez just misses on a hard overhand right. Miguel with a jab. Benavidez stalking now and he lands a big right hand off an exchange. Jab again for Torres. Miguel kicks to the body. Benavidez catches it and tosses him to the floor. Torres doing the butt scoot towards him and now he's back up. Nice right hand lands again for Benavidez. He follows it up with a takedown attempt and we're in the clinch. Knees from Miguel and Benavidez gets a slamming takedown. Heels to the back now from Torres who is working from full guard. Benavidez is looking for a guillotine now. He doesn't have it. Miguel tries to roll out, but Benavidez stays on him. To half guard now for Benavidez. He's still holding on to Miguel's neck, but doesn't have a choke. He finally lets it go and Miguel takes full guard back. Ground strikes for Benavidez and he stands right before the bell sounds. Benavidez likely stole that round with the ground control.
Round two: More circling from Miguel to start round two. Leg kick lands for Benavidez. Miguel fires back with a body kick. Benavidez stalking and he lands a nice combo, ending it with another big right hand. Leg kick misses from Torres. Jab for Torres. Benavidez misses wildly. Miguel leans in with a jab. Benavidez just misses with a counter right hand. Hard body kick from Benavidez. Leg kick from Torres. Nice jab lands for Miguel. He's really starting to open up with that jab now. He's landing it at will. Now Benavidez with a lightning quick takedown and Miguel is on his back again. Miguel is bleeding now. The cut looks to be on his forehead and there is blood everywhere, EVERYWHERE. Benavidez doesn't look slowed down by it and now he has a guillotine. It looks deep. He has his guard closed. Miguel is in deep deep trouble here. He's a bloody mess and he has nowhere to escape to. He has no choice and he finally gives in and taps out. Wow! Huge huge win for Joseph Benavidez

Jens Pulver vs. Javier Vazquez (145-pound limit)
Round one: Jens wants no part of touching gloves. He's looks to be all business. Leg kick lands for Vazquez. He shoots now and Jens shrugs him off. Nice left hand now for Vazquez. He shoots again and now Jens is on his back. He has a guillotine, but it looks like Vazquez is alright in half guard. He's trying to roll out now and Jens takes the top position. His head is out now and he's back up to his feet. Nice leg kick for Jens, but Vazquez catches it and tosses him to the mat. He's got Jens' back now. Great reversal from Jens! Now Pulver is working in Vazquez's full guard. Pulver stands and Vazquez with a great reversal takedown. Very nicely done. Side control now for Vazquez. Now he puts Pulver in the crucifix and he's landing big punches. Jens is having a hard time defending with his arm trapped. Vazquez is smothering him with punches. Jens gives up his back and Vazquez is looking for the choke. Jens is battling, but he's getting schooled on the ground here. Full mount now for Vazquez. He transitions right to an armbar. He's got it locked and this fight is over. What a shame for Jens Pulver, who may have just fought his last fight, but Javier Vazquez was damn impressive tonight with this dominating win.

L.C. Davis vs. Deividas Taurosevicius (145-pound limit)
Round one: DT takes the center of the cage and lands a leg kick. Davis shows a left hand. High kick gets blocked by Davis. DT initiates a clinch now looking for a takedown, but Davis defends it nicely and pushes DT against the fence. Knees now from DT while Davis works for position. DT now able to reverse the position and he has Davis pinned againt the cage now. More knees from DT and Davis reverses again. DT is clearly doing more work from the clinch here and the referee steps in for a separation. Nice inside leg kick lands for DT. He misses on a combo and Davis lands a nice counter jab. Another clinch initiated by DT and Davis defends it and pins him against the fence. Nice dirty boxing from Davis and more knees by DT. Davis mixing in more knees now as well as DT is has a single leg, looking for the takedown. Davis defends it very well and they're back in the clinch. Double leg try now for DT. Again, he gets nowhere and the round comes to a close there. DT wins that round on aggression. Not much action though.
Round two: DT shows a leg kick and Davis counters with a nice combo. High kick misses for Davis. Right hook just misses from Davis. DT with a quick shoot for a takedown. He's relentless, but LC Davis is showing some really good takedown defense. Nice sprawl now from Davis, but DT stays with the attempt and finally gets the hard working takedown. Davis is working hard now to get back to his feet, but DT is smothering him. He's up, but DT won't let go of the clinch. Nice dirty boxing from Davis now. DT lands a knee to the body. Davis might have thought it was low, but the action continues. Hard right hand lands for DT as Davis spins him around pinning him against the cage. Body punches and knees exchanged by both fighters. Both fighters are working extremely hard with punches, knees and elbows from the clinch. Another knee lands that Davis thinks was low. The ref says he didn't see it and the action continues. We're basically at a stalemate here and the referee finally calls for a separation. High kick doesn't come close for DT. DT charges in and eats a nice set of punches from Davis. Body lock again for DT, who is tirelessly working for another takedown. Davis won't allow it though and he ends the round with more dirty boxing and knees. Very close round. The takedown and aggression may be the difference again for DT, although Davis was pretty busy in the clinch.
Round three: DT takes the center and shows a kick, but Davis makes him pay with a right hand. DT fires back with one of his own. Davis leans in and misses a body punch. Nice left hand by DT and we're right back into the clinch. Both guys jockeying for position now and Davis right away with more dirty boxing. He's been effective with those small punches, but how much is he scoring with the judges? Davis pushes out now and lands a weak right hand. High kick misses from DT. DT leans in with a hard right hand and Davis times it nicely for a clinch. DT turns it around, now he's looking for the takedown. LC is defending and now the referee wants a separation with two minutes left in this fight. Davis now with a quick takedown attempt. He gets it! That could turn out to be huge on the scorecards. DT is working the rubber guard and he's landing some decent little annoying punches to Davis' head. Davis is tied up a bit and can't really do much. Now the referee wants a stand up. DT isn't happy with it. Davis with a lazily flying knee attempt. DT blocks it and they get tangled up again. It looks like the fight is going to end there and it does. I'd hate to be a judge for this fight, but I think DT worked a little bit harder.

Karen Darabedyan vs. Bart Palaszewski (155-pound limit)
Round one: Gloves touch and we're underway. Karen shows a jab. Bartimus flashes a leg kick. Nice left hand lands on the chin for Darabedyan. Leg kick misses from Palaszewski. Now he lands one. Darabedyan doesn't like it and he charges forward. He's unloaded a barrage of punches now. Palaszewski with his back to the fence is trying to recover and now Karen has a double leg and he gets the slamming takedown. Hard hammer fists landing from Karen now. Bartimus recovers and has full guard. He's looking for an armbar now, but Karen powers out. He postures and he's landing some hard ground shots. Elbows now from Darabedyan who has moved to half guard. More nice ground strikes from Karen. Hard upkick from Palaszewski lands and Karen jumps right back into his guard. More elbows and punches from Darabedyan. Bartimus is looking for the arm again, but Karen makes him pay with a few more hard ground strikes. Palaszewski is looking for the arm again and this time he might have it. He does! Wow. Darabedyan is trying like crazy to resist, but he has no choice but to tap out. Very nice come from behind win for Bart Palaszewski.
