UFC Quick Quote: Stephan Bonnar wants a rematch, K?

Bonnar-ufc-110_medium

"I want to finish the fight, man. It was only a few minutes left, right? It was a headbutt, and you know what the worst part is? Take a close-up on this head. This cut is actually shaped like a 'K' for Krzysztof, so I now I've got to walk around with a scar in the shape of a 'K' on it."

UFC light heavyweight Stephan Bonnar pleads his case for a rematch at the UFC 110 post-fight press conference after an inadvertent headbutt busted him open in the third round of his 205-pound war with Krzysztof Soszynski at the "Nogueira vs. Velasquez" event on Feb. 21 from Sydney. "The American Psycho" was not permitted to continue after spilling blood all over himself, Soszynski and the better part of the Octagon floor. While the nature of the cut has the TKO ruling under review, the TUF 1 finalist is more interested in finishing his bout with "The Polish Experiment." Any Maniacs out there want to see these guys mixing it up for a second time?

Bas Rutten: He has a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Stephen Quadros: Yes, well many of the fighters
have a black belt.
Bas Rutten: Yes, but in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu you cant
buy your belt like in say, Tae Kwon Do.
Stephen Quadros: Do you have any belts?
Bas Rutten: I have a brown belt in Tae Kwon Do.

nope, not in the slightest

as stephan bonnar is an abortion and should have been axed ages ago. my reasoning for this is based soley on the level of annoyingness of his face and voice. dalloway and kos too should be evicted by a special “annoying/smug faceed people shouldn’y be on tv” rule which needs to be implimented

People think they hate a fighter

But there are times I would like to train to become a fighter and call out Diego so that I can get a chance to kick his ass myself. God I hate that guy.

Diego is a funny guy

I was a fan of his until he boasted about not having to fight BJ in the UK, but he is still a funny guy. Even back in the days of TUF he was hilarious and he’s a great character for MMA.

He's a cheater

He acted like he didn’t tap to Amir and then he intentionally hit Jesse Taylor with an illegal knee.

Add to that the shadow tap vs. Massenzio

At least Lawlor choked him out before he got the chance to do the shadow tap again.

What? I've always liked Bonner's fights

…even if he is getting his ass kicked, he at least puts up a fight.

Entertaining…right?

I have no problem watching these guys go at it again, that was a very entertaining fight. Bonnar took a shitload of punishment, but he can obviously take it…

let them fight again or have him fight jardine for a loser goes home match

by hatteras on Feb 22, 2010 6:30 PM EST reply actions

LOL, I like your idea of elimination fights

The UFC should do more of these fights where the loser gets cut from the UFC—the fighters would hold nothing back! Bonner should have been gone a long time ago, but Dana said him and Forrest will never get cut due to their TUF 1 fight basically saving the UFC. I don’t mind Dana being loyal and all, but Bonner is clearly done. Let him and KK fight again, he’ll just end up with another scar on his head!

If they do those Bruce Buffer should tell everyone as he’s introducing the fighters. Then Dana should come in after the fight, get right in the loser’s face and yell, “YOOOOOOUUUUUU’RRRRREEE FFFIIRRRRRRREEEDDDDDDD!” in his best Vince McMahon voice.

He should have done that to Houston after that farce of a fight with Kimbo

That would have been funny.

Sadly...

Dana said he’ll never get rid of Bonner cause of his fight with Forrest. It’s not right that he gets to stay with the UFC when better fighters have been let go. Give him a job doing something else.

by Oswald on Feb 22, 2010 8:44 PM EST up reply actions

Coleman beat Bonnar

Shows how bad Stephan is these days, he’s a nice guy and an entertaining fighter but he’s done competetively as he’s never evolved and has never recovered from his long lay-off. I’d like to see him rematch Kris then retire and stay in the UFC as an announcer, maybe a backstage interviewer or a commentator.

Bonnar should feel lucky

That’s two in a row for him and theres a great chance we’ll see him again. Coleman put a beating down on him and lost one fighter after resulting in him getting the boot.

I think its 3 in a row

Jones, Coleman, and Krystof..but either way..he needs to change something…seems like when some fighters get popped for roids and stop, they have a real hard time adjusting without them,,i.e. Hermes Franca….Id bet that a much higher percentage than most of us think are using steroids in professional mma…I dont have proof..but like I said..Id sure as hell bet on it.

IMO

As Long as Bonner keeps putting on great scraps and great commentating I don’t think he should ever get axed’’ from the UFC. Personally I like the guy, he’s not the most talented, but if Mir can keep getting comeback shots, then Bonner as one of the saviors of the UFC, due to his TUF performance… will never be forgotten by D. White n’ company…. keep fighting n’ f*ck the naysayers Bonner… they’re just following the voice of the 1st and 2nd posted thread…. sheep y’all a herd of sheep!

by THORAZINE on Feb 22, 2010 7:07 PM EST reply actions

Very well stated Thorazine

i can’t remember ever being disappointed in a Stephan Bonnar fight. He was getting his ass kicked in the first round, but he kept coming forward and he never stopped until the ringside physician called the fight. When he loses, he never bitches, complains or makes excuses. Why would anyone want to send this guy off to another promotion? I swear, people complain because they like the sound of their own whining……Getting rid of Bonnar is absolutely moronic. If being a top-5 contender were a requirement for making a UFC Card, we’d have half as many PPV events, and there would only be 5 fights per card……….for every insightful, intelligent post you see on this site, i guess we have to bear with a retarded comment against it…..

Also

Bonnar can still beat most of the low end roster of the 205’s, he just can’t roll with the top 10.

He beats the Irvine’s and the Eric Schafer’s and the Brian Stann’s but people don’t have any problem with them being in the UFC.

He laced Schafer, who almost beat Bader recently.
I applaud UFC’s loyalty and am always interested in watching Bonnar fight.

Ya Schafer did not almost beat Bader…

by frosnt1 on Feb 22, 2010 9:45 PM EST up reply actions

well

That may have been overstated, but red did win the second round, people thought it was going to be a big upset with Eric winning as Bader seemed to be flagging hard, but Bader got it together for the 3rd round.

by ShaiZ on Feb 23, 2010 1:08 AM EST up reply actions

Schafer

Schafer is definitely getting better, he only fights about twice a yr, he’s 32 so I imagine he’s not quitting his day job. Gotta appreciate guys like that who keep plugging along and stepping it up against new comers like Bader

by THORAZINE on Feb 23, 2010 2:38 AM EST up reply actions

Bonnar can't beat anyone anymore, he couldn't even beat Coleman

His days as a fighter are numbered and really he should retire after rematching Kris. He’ll never win another fight in the UFC.

bonnar won rd2

That fight was very close it wasn’t like bonnar wasn’t landing shots or getting takedowns. Both guys landed heavy punches. Bonnar got the only takedown and did more work in the clinch. He ate some heavy shots but he was very active and I felt like he won round 2. He lost round one despite turning it on at the end of the round. THEY HAVE TO REMATCH

by hatteras on Feb 22, 2010 10:27 PM EST reply actions

Agreed

I still like Bonnar, gotta be one of the toughest fighters there is and never gives up, Krysztof (however it’s spelled) was a dick with his charge when Bonnar tried to touch gloves and that put Bonnar on the back foot – you could see it stunned him. I’d rather see Bonnar fight than 90% of the wrestlers in the UFC – including dull-ass Randy Couture’s cuddle-against-the-cage fests.
