UFC 111 prelims on Spike TV to feature Brown vs Almeida and Diaz vs Markham

Brown-almeida_medium_medium

Spike TV will once again offer mixed martial arts fans a look at select preliminary bouts when it airs live under card action from the upcoming UFC 111: "St. Pierre vs. Hardy" pay-per-view on March 27 from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.

UFC welterweight stars Matt Brown and Ricardo Almeida will bring their bout to the airwaves alongside the 155-pound scrap between Nate Diaz and Rory Markham.

Fans were treated to one hour of uninterrupted mixed martial arts competition a few weeks back when Melvin Guillard collided with Ronys Torres in a lightweight showdown and fellow 155-pounders Mac Danzig and Justin Buccholz got busy on the UFC 109: "Relentless" undercard on Feb. 6.

While the broadcast scored a series high 1.7 million viewers for a 1.2 household rating, the network was ahead of schedule for its 2010 allotment of Prelim specials and opted to pass on last Saturday night's UFC 110: "Nogueira vs. Velasquez" event from Sydney.

Star-divide

Now it's back. And you can be sure that Nate Diaz is looking for revenge after falling to Gray Maynard in a close split decision he still believes he won at UFC Fight Night 20 back on Jan. 11.

Remember that MMAmania.com will provide LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the main card action on fight night (Saturday, March 27), which is slated to air at 10 p.m. ET on pay-per-view from Newark. The latest quick updates of the live action will begin to flow earlier than that around 8 p.m. ET with the preliminary bouts.

To get up to speed on the "St. Pierre vs. Hardy" event be sure to check out the complete UFC 111 archive by clicking here.

Very happy to hear this

I have been really interested in watching both of these, especially the Brown/Almieda fight. Brown always brings it, and I am interested in seeing how Almieda looks moving down.

I think so to

Love watching him fight, but this on paper is a very tough fight for him to win. I think if he survives the first 7 1/2 minutes, the last 7 1/2 minutes he will dominate. Almieda is not known for his gas tank, + he is cutting for the first time. I think Brown by 3rd rnd TKO

Remember guys, Brown has been a bit prone to submissions. If there is a weakness in his game, its sub defense. Amir got him with a triangle, Lytle has sub’d him, and Wilks was SO close with that Kimura. Submissions are obviously Almeida’s bread n butter, so I wouldn’t be so quick to put Brown as a lock. Just saying.

But I do think that Brown wins this. Probably by a close decision. I could also see Almeida winning, assuming the weight cut doesn’t mess him up too bad.

I agree with you Synyster

But, I think after the halfway point Almieda is far less likely to get the sub. As I mentioned, tough fight for Brown, but I really think if he makes it into the latter part of the fight he will win. Subs are his achilles heal though, worried about that. Plus Almeida will probably be the best wrestler he has faced yet.

I underestimated Brown last time

And will never do it again. I’m very curious to see how this pans and will have to make my pick very wisely.

Correction

Rory Markham fights at 170.. and Diaz should be moving up.

Yep

I think Diaz is going to 170 not Markham coming down to 155. Last I heard anyways.

Give a man to fish and feed him for a day. Kick his stupid ass and maybe he will leave you alone.

Well...

I kinda think the same thing…. I could never see him in there with a GSP but I can see how being that tall maybe hard to stay that light and thin. If it helps him build muscle and be more energetic for a fight it may be a positive thing.

The fact that Jesse closed the thread because of his comments says it all

Congratulations Jason, you are the only Maniac to get a thread shut on SB Nation because of your comments being that ridiculous and irrelevant. Now keep making sensible posts like this instead of unneccessary anti-Canadian rants.

"Nogueira is probabaly the best HW of all time"

Me neither

He had problems with the wrestlers at 155……what the hell is he going to do with the bigger stronger wrestlers at 170? Don’t see it working

dont underestimate what a negatice effect cuttin weight has on certain fighters performance.

He wont beat GSP, but he can be competitive against guys like Saunders, Matt Brown, Lytle…who I am all found of…and you cant expect more from a 24 yr old kid…is contender days will come in the future!

Agreed

Nate was too skinny at 155 and it made him too easy to take down, hopefully a bulk up in weight and continued work on TDD will help revitalise his career. Even his losses at LW were close decisions (at least against Clay and Gray) to top contenders and I’m confident that he will develop into a very good fighter, it took time for Nick to grow into his frame and to become a quality fighter so don’t write off Nate.

I’ve got Diaz (Markham’s mediocre at best and will get submitted) and Brown, I’m done picking against Matt and whilst submissions are his weakness his superior striking and cardio should be enough to beat Almeida in Big Dog’s first fight at 170.

Go matt brown! I’ve met him and not only is he a great person hes really a great fighter deserving of more. Hes moving up the ladder and i hope to see him in the top of the division. If you’ve never watched him fight… hes exciting to say the least.
