Unsuccessful in two attempts as a UFC welterweight, Jacob Volkmann (9-2) revealed on his latest tweet that he will face Ronys Torres (14-2) in his lightweight debut at Fight Night 21 from the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, North Carolina, on March 31
Volkmann, who trains out of Minnesota Martial Arts Academy, joined Zuffa with an undefeated record. Unfortunately, he has faltered against the elites of the UFC's stacked 170-pound division, suffering losses against Paulo Thiago at UFC 106 and then against Martin Kampmann at UFC 108.
Against Ronys Torres, he hopes to revitalize his career in a new weight class and ensure his tenure with UFC.
Torres, a product of the famed Nova Uniao camp, dropped a close decision against Melvin Guillard earlier this month at UFC 109. Eager to prove his worth in UFC and perhaps to chip off the ring rust (against Guillard, he fought for the first time in over fifteen months), he will opt for a quick turnaround to welcome Volkmann to the 155-pound division.
Fight Night 21 is scheduled for March 31 and features a lightweight showdown between two-time title challenger Kenny Florian and former Pride Lightweight champion, Takanori Gomi.
