UFC 110 bonuses and awards for 'Nogueira vs Velasquez' PPV fights

UFC 110: "Nogueira vs. Velasquez" from the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia, has officially wrapped, which means that it’s time for those select fighters who went above and beyond in their respective fights to get a little extra grease for their efforts.

To the tune of $50,000 each.

The promotion dished out its standard post-fight monetary bonuses to four out of the 18 fighters on the card. And it may not surprise you which combatants are coming up from "Down Under" with a little extra green.

In addition to their base salaries, the UFC awarded lightweight competitors George Sotiropoulos and Joe Stevenson "Fight of the Night" for their three rounds of thrilling non-stop action.

Unfortunately for "Daddy," the Aussie would not be denied in front of his hometown crowd, despite being a heavy underdog coming into the 155-pound affair.

Stick that in your didgeridoo and smoke it, Vegas oddsmakers.

It's hard to imagine a list of fight night bonuses that didn't include Chris Lytle, and once again the welterweight warrior stuck the Zuffa accountants with a bill of sale for his "Submission of the Night" that trapped and tapped Brian Foster via gruesome kneebar in round one.

That's Lytle's seventh fight night bonus for those of you scoring at home.

Speaking of "Lights Out," the event's final bonus went to rising star and top heavyweight contender Cain Velasquez, who turned Antonion Rodrigo Nogueira inside-out with punches in bunches for his stunning and unexpected "Knockout of the Night."

"Minotauro's" career may be nearing its end -- but it's only just beginning for Velasquez.

Here are the special fight bonuses for UFC 110:

Star-divide

Fight of the Night — George Sotiropoulos vs. Joe Stevenson
Submission of the Night — Chris Lytle
Knockout of the Night — Cain Velasquez

Again, each fighter received $50,000 extra for their performances in addition to their respective base salaries, which we will pass along as soon as possible.

cool stuff, this event proved alot to me as the match-ups were perfectly set up.

jardine shouldn’t be in the ufc, joe daddy hasn’t got the right mentality, wand looked so so and needs to be more aggressive, bisping needs to plant his feets to get more power so his opponents won’t walk right through him like wand finally did.

Cain and Junior are my two top guys, Nog has had a big problem with his head movement for a long time and Cain was just too fast and explosive with his technique for Nog to get away with that.

Cro Cop vs Nog next.

come on maaayn.

wow enjoyed last night

cain was awesome absolutely destroyed nog.he should be getting next shot imo but i cant see him staying on the shelf and fully expect him to fight winner of jds/gg for next contender.
whats up with bisping?he looked like a worldbeater in the 1st round his takedowns were crisp and he actually rocked wand.it was just downhill from there and tbh i didnt think wandy was all that great apart from 2 flurries and the gioullotine.bisping needs to move camps me thinks.
along with cain for performance of the night was georgey s,im not a counneseur of jj but i really enjoyed watching his work last night.is there a guy in the lw division apart from bj with better jj?give him the winner of kenflo/gomi next, hes ready for it.
sardines a joke, getting up nearly crying saying im alrite.he does it all the time.sf for him.nice finish by bader though,if he sorts his cardio he will be a force.
and as for crocop we really cant guage anything he did what he had to do.all in all enjoyed last nite immensely.

I usually don't have big attachement to fighters, i mostly just enjoy the competitions but...

yesterday when Big Nog got KO’d, a small part of me died. It was a hell of a run this past decade, not only at the 2nd best HW of all time but being one of maybe top 3 fighters this decade due to how long his dominance endured- mostly over top 5-10 opposition.

I had Brian Foster over Lytle and for once fn lytle decided “Fuck stand and bang, let’s do technique.” Up until then though he was getting molested and his “bombs” weren’t doing shit to brian. I hoep he doesn’t get cut – i just love his physicality and mauling style both in striking and wrestling/gnp.

Jardine – keep your right hand up but he won’t fucking learn so that’s that.
Bader – Fucking relax
Wand – More aggression against guys without kill shot power
Cro Cop – really? Couldn’t finish the hippo in the 1st. He’s really fallen.
Sotiropoulous – Called that fight 100%. Needs to clean up his striking fundamentals and add more combos.
Bonnar-Sozynsky – Technical Draw, so UFC/Ref – learn the fucking rules.
Cain – I’ve rooted for him since before the UFC, only reason i went against him is coz it’ was the Nog. Already championship caliber, would love to see him against JDS.

But very enjoyable card overall.

I called that one

seemed obvious to me given how slick and hungry Sotiropoulous is and how savvy Joe is.

I thought it was pretty one-sided. JoeMamma di squat. I thought FotN should have been Wandy-Bisping. At least Bisping managed to get some offense in, which is a hell of a lot more than anyone can say for Joe.

I agree with the selections

especially that rolling kneebar, and loved the George S. fight. I’m sad to admit that Jardine is done, he can’t compete at the highest level if he can’t take a punch.

Agreed

I like Jardine and always root for him, but it’s tough because he’s always one shot away from a KO. His jaw just isn’t meant for fighting.

I had Jardine winning that fight up until he got dropped. He got wobbled and buckled by two hard shots from a really heavy-handed guy. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with him.

UGH!

So sick of people saying guys have glass jaws which takes away any credibility from the person knocking them out. Look, Bader had big time power and has the ability to 1 punch knock out any of the Light Heavies. Jardine survived some big blows from Rampage who has incredible punching power as well. It is more about head movement and where and how you get hit. When someone gets knocked out by the likes of Bader, Wandy, Thiago Silva and Houston when he was still trying does not mean you have a glass jaw. It means you need to get your jaw out of the way of these big time punchers. If we was getting knocked out by Forrest I would start to worry but not when it is big time, big power punchers that are doing it!

by Edgecrusher71 on Feb 21, 2010 11:35 AM EST up reply actions

He’s been KO (not TKO) in 4 out of his last 5 losses. I think that qualifies…

both good arguments

Jardine is in my top 5, yes they are heavy handed but that is my point. Who isn’t heavy handed at the top? He needs to be able to compete with them, and Rampage did drop him, and he was also rocked by Vera, so every time out his lights get dimmed or turned out. It sucks, but true.

gotta feel for bonnar.

that was a good fight till the doc stopped it needlessly. unless a fighter is bleeding to death, there’s no need to stop it imo. nogs been over for years now, he looked good against an ageing underweight couture, thats it. i reckon cain gives brock his best challenge to date.

Brock's toughest challenge

That depends on whether what we saw last night was newfound power in Cain’s fist or newfound weakness in Nog’s chin. If Nog’s chin was the same as always, then Cain is a threat to Brock on the feet. But Brock is still a better wrestler than Cain AND 40 lbs bigger/stronger. I don’t see Cain beating Brock on the ground.

by (shonuff) on Feb 21, 2010 10:05 AM EST up reply actions

I agree with you there...

I posted the same exact thing in the post fight thread. Brock has a ton of weight on him, is almost 3 inches taller then him and has an almost 5 inch reach advantage. I think that those issues will be present with Mir and Carwin for him as well. Mir is now hoovering in at the 265 mark, has 3 inches in height as well, and 3 inch reach advantage-Carwin is over 265, an inch taller only, but has a 3 in. reach advantage as well as probably being the HW with the most 1 punch ko power.

also Bonnar stoppage wasn't neeedless

The top of Bonnar’s head was split wide open. The problem wasn’t the stoppage, it was the idiot ref calling an accidental headbutt a TKO. When are these frakkin refs gonna learn the rules!!!

Good Night of Fights

Love Lytle and glad he continues to roll but think Foster will get better in time. He just needs more experience. Sardine is not cut out for the main card but it’s always good to see him get Ko’d, surprisingly similar body position to Rashad after Machida Ko’d him. Wonder if they practice that at Jacksons cult?

Bonnar fight was excellent till the stoppage, George fight was great too and Cain….wow. I know Nog isn’t the same but still….wow.

Thought Wand looked flat and out of sorts, any top 5 MW will deal with him easily. If Bisping actually believed in himself he could’ve got the decision. He attacked with intention in round one then went back to stick and move once Wand stuffed his takedown attempts. After that he kind of gave in a little.

Cro cop earned his easiest money ever.

I'm so done with Bisping...

I defended him, rooted for him, had high hopes… but he’s so full of shit. All his talk about how he KOs people with 16oz gloves blah blah and all he does in the cage is pitter patter shots. Fuck him. He should have won that fight easily last night, but he was too busy backing up and throwing bullshit shots.

And Big Nog is done, and has been done for a while.

I know what you mean

He lacks confidence and a killer instinct against quality opponents. I’m setting him adrift now…

Foster looked great

but he got cocky…and that’s not something you can ever afford against a savvy veteran. But he’ll learn from this and we’ll definitely be seeing more of him.

Yeah, but...

Hope there was no serious ligament damage to that knee or that’ll be the last we see of the spinning kicks – always the way when anyone with any flair gets into MMA, they get some nasty injuries and end up fighting like Matt Hughes because they don’t want to risk anything.

big nog title hopes are over for now

bog nog is one of my idols one of the the people who inspire me to get into to mma even if it kills me to say it but his title chances are over this to me is the first time he has truly been ko and i think he won`t be able to overcome this loss but he has nothing to be ashamed of for he still is one the of the greatest of all time .and as for wand glad to see him in the winners spot

The rest looked bad, with the former pride stars looking worst of all.
