I got Belcher

I’m a big fan of his (not his tattoo) and think he’s shown constant improvement!

ok, any non canadian comments are welcome!

you guys are way to blatantly biased, nothing wrong with that, but I don’t get it. We here in the states aren’t like that, we like guys due to ability, not their flag of country!

I see your point...Cote is a little different for me though as he's a military man like my brother...

Your opinion as an American is also no good. Any Europeans in here want to tell us what’s up?

jay

I’ve NEVER picked a fighter because of his country. The U.S. is too big and diverse for me to do that, Canada is what % white and how many people are in the country? I’m not putting you guys down because of your love for Canadian fighters, but just be clear, country has never impacted my picks. I’d pick Silva over GSP, I guarantee none of you guys would pick the better fighter!

by kevjack115 on Feb 18, 2010 4:06 PM EST up reply actions

there aren't that many Can fighters worth routing for actually

GSP, Cote, Stout, MacDonald, Grant amoung a few others. Your talent pool is larger to choose from. We just don’t have as many fighters

Stout is up there, but yeah. Just GSP and Cote

I picked Silva to beat Cote and Grove(figured his reach would be a problem for him) I would also pick Silva over GSP.

I am picking Cote because he is fighting in Montreal, he is going to be at the top of his game for this fight, lay off or not. I also have picked against Belcher in every one of his fights(I think he is a knob).

doesnt matter about talent pool

u guys are very loyal, nothing wrong with it, just dont get it!

by kevjack115 on Feb 18, 2010 4:14 PM EST up reply actions

I think you’re right Kev…I keep picking The Crow and ending up being pissed at the end of the night. I do think that Cote will win this though. He has more power, and there is no way Belcher knocks him out. If it hits the ground there could be problems, hopefully Cote has been working on that.

Cote doesn't check leg kicks...

and now with his busted up knees, i cringe to see what will happen. Cote better leave his chin wide open so that he can try to catch Belcher as he lands one because otherwise i think he’s just not dynamic enough to deal with him.

Notice how none of his coaches complimented his technique or skills and everyone just kept talking about his “mental toughness.” I would be pissed if i was him.

by NNR (formerly NameNotRequired) on Feb 19, 2010 12:29 AM EST up reply actions

What does Belcher do that Patty has to worry about?

He can’t knock him out(no one can) and he won’t sub him. If he lasts 3 rounds with Cote I will start believing in him, but don’t count on that happening.

Leg Kicks and Reach

Belcher 6’2 – Cote 5’11
Becher has the reach, jab, power in his leg kicks and speed/timing to avoid Cotes power punches and smash his right maniscus into a thousand tiny pieces.
Take the Akiyama fight as an example of the volume and power of Belchers leg kicks.
Cote doesnt pose much of a threat to Belcher on the ground so he will be able to kick at will.
The injury could make cote reluctant to kick and slow down his footwork and affect his ability to check. Cote also likes to switch up to southpaw to put his opponents of balance but will he be willing to risk leaving his right leg out there? I doubt it.
If I was Belcher i would spend the 1st and 2nd sticking and moving behind the jab while blasting Cotes right knee with the inside leg kick (ala manhoof) and then go in for the kill in the 3rd with a takedown and gnp elbows. Cote can win this if he connects a power shot and thats pretty much it. The fight is Belchers to lose.

Paniczoo reincarnated.

Nice analysis but Akiyama handled Belcher. I do agree that this fight is def in Belcher's favor.

I like Cote, always have. Think he’s a good fighter. But, I think he’s catching Belcher at the wrong time. Belcher is on his way up, and he’s looked real good lately. His win over Gouveia at 107 was great.

Best of luck to Cote in the future, but he ain’t gonna win at 113, write it down.

And, I’m from Belchers state, so I’m really biased. But, the dude is good. Belcher is moving up, Cote is coming back from injury. Wrong place at the wrong time for Patrick Cote.

The fight being in Montreal aint gonna help the fact that Cote at the time wont have fought in 1 1/2 years. The crowd will be pro Cote, which means theres prolly gonna be a lot of cryin Canadians on May 8th.

That was well played with the tears of joy thing, but come on. Have you seen Belcher fight recently? He won that fight against Akiyama, and it was obvious. But, you cant let fights go to the judges.

Cote is a good fighter. If Cote had a fight or 2 under his belt post-surgery going into a fight with Belcher, it’d be a tough call. First fight back from major surgery, not happening.

Alan Belcher is determined. He will not lose.

by Craig15 on Feb 18, 2010 4:26 PM EST up reply actions

Same goes for Cote. He is determined to make it back.

This is going to be a good fight, I am just messing around with the comments. Nothing anyone can say will to change my pick on this fight.

by jay. on Feb 18, 2010 4:31 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, he is determined to make it back, and I believe he will. I just dont think fighting a fighter like Belcher right now straight off of major surgery is a recipe for immediate success.

Cote will get back in the title picture, but he’s gonna take a bump or two on his way back.

Like I said, I just think he’s fighting the wrong guy right now.

by Craig15 on Feb 18, 2010 4:34 PM EST up reply actions

I dont care if you’re Canadian or not, there’s no way anybody can look at this fight and think Cote is gonna walk through Belcher.

Either:

or

2) You are so far down on Cote’s shaft you cant see the light of day.

Sexyama is in the mix…

I kinda see it this way…
A. SILVA

HENDO (would have been)
Belfort
Sonnen
Akiyama
Cote
Miai
Nate the great
Belcher
Miller
Winner of Wandy and Bisping
Franklin
Loser of Wandy and Bisping

by judopei on Feb 18, 2010 8:01 PM EST reply actions

A win over Belcher might lift him up as high as rank 5 but

the manner with which he wins will be very significant too.

If he knocks Belcher out, give him Sonnen or Belfort. It sounds like a punishment I know but I think he really wants to challenge himself.

And if he knocks Belfort out, give him 40 virgins.

And if he knocks Silva out, give him the Eastern Seaboard and half of the former British colonies.
