Mixed martial arts legend Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva talks to Yahoo! Sports about his decision to drop down to 185 to finish out his storied career. Citing a change in the game due to the sport's ever-growing popularity, Silva acknowledges the fact that, like in most every other sport, the athletes competing now are bigger, stronger, and faster than ever before. Wandy also mentions that the presence of his arch nemesis, Rampage Jackson, in Michael Bisping's corner for the UFC 110 co-main event will indeed play a key role in his motivation for the fight. Here's a fighter that has been threw Bare Knuckle fighting, Pride fighting and UFC fighting
He explains pretty well how the sport has evolved and fighters are getting better all around. He’s not the first to state this either the sport has evolved and the quaility of competition has too from the Pride and old UFC days. I also think Cro Cop should really try and cut to LHW he’s to small of a HW now days.

Just to clarify – Wandy is “shit-talking” too right. Since everyone jumps on Bisping for doing it… Seems to me that most consider a fighter as shit-talking if they don’t like them and just being “confident” if they are a fan.

People don't like Bisping because.....
When he fought Matt Hamill in London he lost, but somehow won the decision….shortly after he was given a main event against…? Since he came into the UFC it seemed that he was given preferential treatment since he was viewed as a way to bolster the UFC fan base overseas. His elite status never really seemed to be proved in the cage, yet he was given the role as a TUF coach, and we were all basically forced to try and view him as a top level fighter. It’s really not his fault, but I just think a lot of people were irritated by all the publicity he got when it didn’t seem like he deserved it.
That, and...
He acted like a douche through the entire season of TUF. How are we supposed to believe that he is anything but a douche? Even if he’s somehow totally awesome, and he’s also really good at fighting and we just haven’t seen any of that yet, it’s so much easier to go on thinking he’s a douche and that he sucks, not to mention it’s pretty fun to root against him (being a douche and all). Rebuttal?

To be fair, its just an American thing! I think he’d be a lot less hated if the show hadn’t had the whole country versus country scenario, as it made Bisping the enemy to the U.S fans. I try not to get annoyed at people’s mindless comments about Bisping, but he gets slated for literally anything he says. If you look at any fighter’s pre-fight comments, they usually talk themselves up or say they can see themselves KO’ing them or whatever. As soon as Bisping talks up his chances he labelled ‘cocky’ and ‘arrogant’.
As for the ‘Bisping sucks’ comments, does he really ‘suck’? Im not going to argue that he’s in the elite echelon of fighters but he can certainly hold his own against most middleweights out there. Bisping hating is so boring!!
Back to task at hand.
Wanderlei is talking shit again. He always did. It wasn’t until he came into the UFC that it was all “I give a good show for all my fans” He made a (long) career out of talking shit and then backing it up. This to me means three things.
1. He’s extremely comfortably at 185. The shedded weight gave him his speed back and the mobility to lift those knees again (hopefully)
2. His back is against the wall, and he’s hungry. (Think Rocky III) He hasn’t been hungry for years now.
3. He’s back with Rudimar Fedrigo as a trainer who has made him remember where he came from.
This fight will be a good one. Wanderlei’s chin has been suspect, but no way does Bisping have the power to pose a KO threat. This will be a slugfest.
