this fight is so freaking hard to call
i go back and forth on it….cain is obviously not gonna stand and box….hes goin to the ground, his shots are so powerful, he has the sickest tds 2nd only to brock….of course nogs will be workin for the sub from his back the entire fight…i just dont know if hes gonna sink it in or not….cain just transitions so well…his pace is so sick…he just doesnt stay in one place long enough for someone to spend 2 or 3 minutes working for an armbar or triangle choke…
hes always passing and jumping back and forth and taking the back and then back to the guard to gnp and then back to side mount and then back to guard and hes just always spinning around…hes not like sonnen or tito whos happy to stay in one place for 15 minutes…
sonnen has no problem stayin in your guard for 15 minutes…in that position it would be easy for nogs to work a sub but cain is just nonstop positioning all over the place…
but nogs is just such an experienced guy…hes seen EVERYTHING that cain could throw at him…there is NOTHING that ANY fighter could show nogs that hes never seen…
and plus cain has had only 7 fights…dude has very limited experience…but hes just such a sick animal who just doesnt stop for anything….just doesnt let anyone breathe…
this is one fight i havent been able to predict…..this one and the mir/carwin fight i just have no idea whats gonna happen…..
but i just know i cant fucking wait, i like both guys equally and i wont be upset either way…regardless who wins…i just want to see a great war…
my dream fight would have to be Brock Lesnar vs Jake Shields...and before the fight theres a video of jake slapping brock's wife...then id like to see shields try to gay porn a win over brock using his butt sex merry-go-round tactics...the massacre that would take place would be the greatest thing ever televised...every limb jake has would look like corey hill's leg...god i hate jake shields
Nice breakdown
but mind you his transition game was being done on Ben Rothwell and Cheick Kongo. Neither of them established guard or half guard because he wsa passing off the takedown into side or twister side control. The fact that both guys were trying to desperately strike with him and keep distance shows that they didn’t have a gameplan for how to handle him on the mat.. Also Cain unlike 99% of wrestlers prefers to keep the fight at the center of the cage to stop them from wall walking pretty much using his work rate and strike volume to pin them. But against Nog you’re giving him all that space to move around in and play BJJ.
Mir-Carwin: Mir and his roided body mentally quits after the first solid shot from Barney.

yea very true, trying to compare rothwell and kongo to nogs
is pretty ridiculous i admit…seeing how nogs has faced everyone on the planet and seen every type of style you could possibly throw out him…and has always found a way to persevere no matter how much the odds were stacked against him at any point in his fights…and seems to pull out a win when you think hes finished….
cain overwhelming kongo and rothwell is kind of laughable compared to what nogs has accomplished in his career….but nogs has just taken so much punishment over the years…hes like the scott smith of the jits world accept hes 10 times the fighter…but similar in the fact he takes so much punishment before he pulls out the heroic submission
cain is such a stud, the future of the hw division, him and jds….yea its very possible his lack of experience will leave him open to a slick sub from the battle tested nogs, similar to what happened with brock and mir in their first fight….cain just doesnt stop, dude just has the sickest cardio in the hw division..
i think a lot of the subs that nogs has pulled off is when his opponents have gotten so gassed and tired from giving everything they had pounding on nogs trying to finish him and in their gassed and weary state nogs just slapped those subs on and BAM fight over…
but cain just is gonna go from bell to bell….
but like i said, i like both of these guys…nogs is one of my favs of all time, cain is one of my fav new guys, i really hate the fact that one of these guys has to lose…i just hope its a 3 round war….a great fight…and i think that even if cain loses it doesnt hurt him at all…it only makes him a better fighter….theres no shame in losing to nogs…especially when its only your 8th fight ever..
my dream fight would have to be Brock Lesnar vs Jake Shields...and before the fight theres a video of jake slapping brock's wife...then id like to see shields try to gay porn a win over brock using his butt sex merry-go-round tactics...the massacre that would take place would be the greatest thing ever televised...every limb jake has would look like corey hill's leg...god i hate jake shields
the first aspect is how cain can handle nog on the feet. if that goes well then obviously he can win, else its important for him to mix it up and break nogs ground game. fedor showed it can be done, it’s just up to other fighters to be good enough to do it assuming nog hasn’t adapted it more to a wrestling top style (which fedor also used sans elbows)
We've all seen how nogueira just has a knack for fighting wrestlers.
He always has all kinds of tricks for them, and i can’t wait the for the ones he’s got up his sleeve for this one. It’s gonna be sick. All doubters are banned from his bandwagon- sorry i didn’t make up the rules people. This is “randy couture is gonna KO him” talk all over again.

Haha
We all know Cain will not be able to handle Nog on his feet, so that goes right out the window. Cain will not be able to knock Nog out on the feet PERIOD! But, Nog could knock Cain out, Nog hits harder than Kongo, Kongo has NEVER been known for his punching power but rather his punches in bunches is what KOs guys and that is why I do not buy the idea of Cain having a solid chin. On the ground Cain is great even especially with his cardio but Cain is overrated IMO because he has not seen good competition yet (or I should say smart competition because I think Kongo is a decent fighter but he tried to grapple Cain while having no grappling skills himself lol). I respect Cain as a fighter but will always hate him until he gets that racist garbage off of his chest, I would cheer for Mir over Cain lol. I will stop saying he is overrated though if he destroys Nog.

nOG IS GOING TO WIN THIS FIGHT!
EVERYONE LIKES TO BASH THE PRIDE GUYS BECAUSE SOME STRUGGLED EARLY IN THE OCTOgon..people think Nog is washed up are crazy! I personally think that the best Nog is still to come….when all these guys left Pride for the UFC, they had to go througH a huge transition phase…most left theiir camps, came to america and formed their own camps. I think that the training that they are now getting in the states, and them being comfortable in their new environments…will provide a resurgence for many of these guys starting with nOG!
aS G5OOD OF A WRESTLER as Cain is, I am willing to bet anyone, that he finds himself on his back with Nog on top! do I think Nog will take him down? NO!, but I am willing to bet that Nog sweeps him and puts him on his back!
fyi: carwin gonna punch Mir so hard, he will quit
Luv Big Nog but I donk think he can ko Cain if he can't ko Randy!
Lil Nog is better known for his boxing, big nog I don’t think has ever ko’d anybody even though h duz have really good boxing skills. Can’t w8 for this card best 1 of the year IMO !

I think Nog's subs come...
not so much when fighters are gassed but when they are confident. He pulls out the subs when he is hurt alot of the time because people think they can finish him, get confident guns ablazing and whamo he has an arm or a neck…

most people are ganna think im crazy but on Feb 21 people will realize I was spot on
I see valasqueze brutally pounding nog from top position for the entire three rounds with nog having no answer he will have flashbacks to fedor dominating him in pride
valasquez is the future I highly doubt noguira will be able to absob the punishment like he used to I see a dramatic tko stoppage in the 3rd by vicous cain gnp.
Call me crazy...
but I don’t see why all these people think Cain will all of the sudden have KO/TKO GNP power? When has he showed this? If anything, he has shown a surprising lack of power for a heavyweight.
Nogueira has slowed down, and dispite the loss to Mir I think he still has his granite chin left (I honestly beleive staph was the reason for his TKO loss, Nog can take that punishment when healthy.) I just don’t see Cain winning this fight by ANY stoppage. Cain wins this fight be laying on Nog and using his marshmallow fists to hit him a couple times.
If this fight does end, it is heavily in Nog’s favour. I just hope Cain isn’t able to lay on him for 3rounds(because he isn’t going to be able to get past Nog’s gaurd and if he does, stay past it) and that the judges understand sub attempts from off a fighters back. My hopes on that last bit isn’t high. I understand the judges love top control if your winning or not. So sadly there is a big possibility of a Cain UD. My bet is still on Nog 2nd Round Sub. by Arm-Bar
well GSP is a much more versatile wrestler.
Even though he learned how to do it in MMA and would get horribly clowned on a world class level, while Lesnar only has one good double leg, which he takes always from the same shot. He doesn’t do anything else.

to be honest
I think Brock is 100% on his takedown attempts. so we haven’t seen him have to reach into his arsenal . I am sure that as soon as someone is able to stuff his takedown we will see his range. So until then,If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Well i am also looking to his collegiate career.
Even back then that was his go to move. It was damn solid but yea when he had to work other things, he seemed to tire quicker. Don’t know what that means in MMA since it’s a different ball game and he’s way bigger than everyone.

Evans and numerous other collegiate wrestlers have stated
That GSP could compete in wrestling on the olympic level and win; up until Serra got injured and he stepped in to the 3rd fight with Hughes he was going to try out for the Canadian Olympic team; I seriously doubt anyone in the entire world in his weight class could horribly clown him in wrestling.

Never take anyone over Nog except Fedor SOOOOOO Nog via 2nd round TKO!
If you dont like drugs then dont do them.....give them to me!
He’ll fight at the same speedy he fought against Couture. I can’t believe he’ll come quicker or in better shape.

Sheeet! I think I made the wrong pick...
I thought Cain will run Nog down with all his relentlessness.
But Nog seems to be catching up in that department.
My heart really says Nog right from the start. But my head says Cain will grind it out if he isn’t caught by a submission, or by one of Nog’s power punches…

This the hardest fight for Velasquez not for Nogueira. The Brazilian fighter has gone into 40 fights against Fedor and Cro Cop in their prime while Cain still has a long road ahead to write his name in the mma books. But fight is fight and Velasquez is a real threat. I see 60×40 for Nog.

there's no doubt who the better fighter is.
Nog is better in every aspect of the fight game and should do the better work in this fight.
If it comes down to the judges though he is at a disadvantage to begin with as they are pure wrestling judges and obviously only have eyes for wrestling.
come on maaayn.

Nog isn't a better wrestler.
I knew that, but wrestling is trash and not a factor since Nog is much better on the ground and standing where the actual fighting takes place.
come on maaayn.
wrestling is trash lmao
i hear all these great fighters say that wrestling is the best skill to have to start off with when starting in MMA. I don’t know maybe Roberto knows more than those guys who knows.
Trash is a bit harsh
but I agree in some sense that wrestling isn’t so much “fighting” it’s more a tool that assists you in doing so. I don’t consider wrestling in it’s basic form, to be a martial art, it’s more of a sport in my eyes. Wrestling is more often than not about controlling the guy, as opposed to hurting the guy.
For instance, GSP, Brock, Cain etc… all the people who currently seem to depend on wrestling, alot of what they do in the ring is about stopping the other guy from inflicting damage and then doing what damage that they can from there. Which tbh, in some cases makes for a boring fight.
The reason I got into MMA is that I love fighting, I train in martial arts myself so that I can be better at it, and so that I can defend myself and others if needs be… In reality in any street/real life situation I’ve ever been in that involved fighting, if I had taken a guy to the floor and started rolling around with him, then I would have gotten my face kicked in.
wrestling is great for MMA, not so much in real life (most of the time anyway). I think that’s what RoBerto was getting at and if so then I agree with him.

in an MMA fight yes
but in an MMA fight you can 100% gaurantee that the ref isn’t gonna decide to get involved and kick you in the back of the head. Plus G’n’P is an extension of “wrestling in it’s basic form” (what I was talking about). You’re not going to find any hammer fists being thrown in a collegiate wrestling match.

great SFK, it's like you read my mind.
the way of scoring makes it easier for wrestlers to be succesful in the UFC, it should be about the groundwork, not who took who down.
Nog’s martial arts techniques are most likely going to be overlooked if this goes to a decision, you can’t win fights on the scorecard in the UFC if you spend the majority of the fight on your back, so you have to finish the guy which i personally find unfair.
come on maaayn.
Roberto, how can you hate wrestling so much
when your buddy Tito made a living from just that. He is the definition of a one-dimensional wrestler, yet you hate on wrestling every chance you get.

calling it trash was too far and i know that too, just wanted to say it as Nog is going to be dominant on the ground.
most ppl just have enormous problems of separating things and seeing things for what they really are, do i like GnP and things that come from taking it to the ground? yes of course and that’s always been one reason for me to love Tito, not his takedowns.
just listen to Goldberg call Aaron Simpson’s 3rd round over Lawlor equally dominant as Lawlor’s 1st round in that fight, while Simpson had great advantageous positions throughout the round he was nowhere near to fighting as well as Lawlor did in the 1st rocking and almost dropping Simpson several times.
I just can’t understand that mentality and ppl seeing it that way.
come on maaayn.
Big Nog has a lack takedown defense and Cain has all the chance of taking advantage of it. But Nogueira is comfortable underneath and will play his role easily because Velasquez hasn’t the ability to finish fights from the top. However, this isn’t the whole scenario of the contend. I see Minotauro better standing and want him to trade some hits with Velasquez before they go to the mat. Nogueira by submission (armlock) or unanimous decision.
"Once Flamengo, Flamengo until die"
Tough fight for Nog
I hope Nog wins cause I am a fan of his and love watching his submission/ground game but I think Cain is just too quick for him. I think Cain’s takedowns are going be relentless and I think his stamina is the best among UFC heavyweights. I look for Cain to take Nog down repeadetly and control Nog throughout the entire fight. Probably won’t do much damage to Nog however will win off points alone. I look for this being a unanimous decision victory for Cain
He looks way slow in this video.
Cain is younger and faster. I think he takes it if he can get it to the ground.
I think Nog’s only chance is to hurt him boxing and get a sub or TKO.
by HappyLittleTreez on Feb 16, 2010 9:41 AM EST reply actions
So
Nogs only chance is to win one of three ways? KO, TKO or sub? From where I’m looking at it, Cain only has one way of winning this fight, decision.

Nog's going to lose this fight for one reason....
In the video there is one thing that makes me think Nog will lose this fight. At about 3:33 of the video, on the wall in the background it looks like there is a giant painting of Obama. You know the one that was made so popular…. If he is training in a gym like that, it leads me to believe their training ideology would be to let others do the work but still gain the benefits somehow. If that’s the case. he gets taken down and wore out to lose a decision. (This is just for fun, y’all. Not basing picks on a wall. But seriously, what is that painting all about??)
