Luis Cane vs Cyrille Diabate to fight at UFC 114 on May 29

Cane-diabate_medium
A light heavyweight clash between Luis Cane and newly-signed Cyrille Diabate has been booked for UFC 114, which is scheduled to go down at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 29, according to MMAFighting.com.

Cane most recently had his three-fight win streak inside the Octagon snapped, getting pounded out by Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in short order via technical knockout at UFC 106: "Ortiz vs. Griffin 2" in Nov. 2009.

Prior to the loss, "Banha" battered former WEC light heavyweight champion, Steve Cantwell, to earn a unanimous decision, stopped Jason Lambert via technical knockout and destroyed Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou via second round technical knockout.

Cane prefers to stand and bang, which will likely be no problem for Diabate on fight night.

Star-divide

Diabate, an accomplished 6'6" kickboxing/Muay Thai specialist from France, has reeled off five consecutive wins since 2007 to earn a multiple-fight contract from the UFC. He most recently submitted Rob Smith via rear naked choke at TPF 2: "Brawl in the Hall" in Dec. 2009.

"The Snake" is perhaps best known among United States fans as Dan Henderson's stand-in as Anderson Silva (they share similar body types and fight styles), as well as serving as a the striking coach for "Hollywood" on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 9.

UFC 114 is expected to be headlined by TUF 10 coaches and now mortal enemies "Suga" Rashad Evans and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. The card is also expected to feature an interesting battle between Forrest Griffin and Antonio Rogerio Noguiera.

Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more news on UFC 114 as it becomes available.

Good fight

I’ve always wanted to see diabate in the UFC. You have to think that he has learnt a bit of a gound game training with GSP and the rest of Jacksons lot on a daily basis. Bit of a baptisim of fire bringing him in against Cane tho.

It’s funny, ‘cause you’d think with Cane’s stand-up he’d have an advantage on his feet against 90% of the division…. but the UFC has now matched him up with two guys in a row who outclass him in that department. So yeah, good match-making from a fan’s perspective. But I’m not sure Luiz’ camp would concur.

I highly doubt it,

Cyrille’s MT and standup is on a higher level. As much i wanted them to match my boy luiz against franklin, this is a worse matchup for him especially if he can’t get it to the mat.

I kinda agree as him being undersized for the division but his height and MT physiotype kinda give him more options at LHW.

He is lanky but already very lean athat weight so cutting might be too much. Think Cory hill going to 145. Though i am not one of those guys who thinks weight drop automatically helps your fighting… stylistically his skills match up better against LHWs than MWs….there are fewer dominant wrestlers. Again his anderson silvaesque body type isn’t really “made” for wrestling so it hurts him here at MW. At LHW His sub game is OK enough that he only needs to worry about Nog, Shogun n Chida. Standing he matches up against anyone there. His wrestling is also good enough to fend off most everyone there due to how mediocre that level is at LHW. More and better sub guys, wrestlers and grinders in the lower weight class would exploit him. His flaws as a fighter i doubt will somehow change because of a weight drop.

Thank you sir, thats y I asked!

how you like our boy nog;s chances against Cain?

by John G. on Feb 14, 2010 6:33 PM EST up reply actions

Oh you know we can't be objective when it comes to Nog.

But really i think Nog’s got him everywhere. Standing, he doesn’t have head movement but his hand technique and combos are there. He recently started checking kicks too so thta’s one more hole that’s being closed. Now only head movement but Cain’s pillow hands won’t hurt him IMO. and on the mat. I don’t think Nog’s guard is as easy to pass as Ben or Kongo. And we’ve never seen cain fight an uphill battle where he doesnt have a decided advantage he forces and crushes pepole with. But really i think Nog’s awesome at fighting wrestlers. It’s like he has an instinct for it.

pretty much see it the same. Nog has the boxing to deal with Cain...he lacks the head movement but has the chin to deal with pillow hands!

I think he can toy with Cain on the ground. He clowned Randy, who is as good of a wrestler as their is, and a similar size to Cain…sweeping him into full mount….i really think Nog is going to win the title again

Yeah. Awesome fight, but I like Cyrille in this one for sure.
