UFC 114: Amir Sadollah vs Dong Hyun Kim on tap for May 29

Sadollah-kim_medium

Electrifying welterweight strikers Amir Sadollah (3-1) and Dong Hyun Kim (12-0-1) have agreed to throw leather on the upcoming UFC 114 fight card, tentatively scheduled for the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 29 according to MMAWeekly.

After more than a year on the sidelines, Sadollah finally got back into the cage at UFC 101 last September in his welterweight debut. Unfortunately his return was short lived after Johnny Hendricks put him down in the first round.

The loss didn't seem to bother him much, as he came firing back and put an ass whooping on veteran Phil Baroni at UFC 106 just two months later.

The Ultimate Fighter 7 champ quickly made it two in a row, again dominating his opponent at UFC Fight Night 20 when he gave Brad Blackburn three rounds of hell just last month.

Now Sadollah gets to prove his merit in a very crowded division against the tough-as-nails Korean.

Star-divide

"Stun Gun" scored a unanimous decision win over Brazilian jiu-jitsu stylist TJ Grant at UFC 100: "Lesnar vs. Mir 2" back in July 2009. The convincing victory over the Canadian was important because Kim had previously been involved in two close matches that could have gone either way.

He was originally penciled in to butt heads with Chris Lytle "Down Under" at UFC 110, but was forced to withdraw from the event due to injury.

UFC 114 will feature the long overdue light heavyweight grudge match between bitter rivals and former TUF 10 coaches "Suga'" Rashad Evans and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

Also on tap for the main card is the return of Diego Sanchez to the welterweight division opposite John Hathaway.

Keep it locked in to MMAmania for future updates to this still-developing fight card.

I was very impressed with Amir's standup though in the baroni and blackburn fight.

Granted Phil was just a punching bag and blackburn is a gasser but still Amir was working a vast array of strikes and his combos were looking positively brilliant. Though i still hate his second rate forrest act bugs the piss out of me, it makes for an excellent matchup especially in the clinch. I imagine once DHK realizes that he’s slightly edged out standing, he’ll go for the judo throws and clinch takedowns. If he gets to the mat though, DHK rides him for the UD. He won’t get armbarred like fn Dollaway.

Amir will lose this fight and get tossed around, unless Stun Gun has some serious rust due to a long stretch of inactivity. Pretty big jump up in competition for him. They’re kinda throwing him to the wolves here.

+1

I just can not see a scenario where Amir could win. The stun gun is just too talented and experienced.

I predict Sadollah to be the winner through every sec of the fight if Joe & Mike gets to say their part

good to know i’m gonna be watching this one without having to listen to Joe and Mike’s constant nuthugging. Zuffa’s orders will be to have Sadollah and Rashad hyped throughout the whole night.

come on maaayn.

I doubt it...UFC is pushing into Japan and they need Kim, Sexy, etc. to be marketed just as much as the TUF winners

Clarification: Akiyama is a Korean born in Japan

Dong Hyun Kim is South Korean and Akiyama (Sexyama) is a South Korean born in Japan that has a Korean name known as Sung Hoon Choo. Though Korean by blood, he was denied citizenship by South Korea and was not able to participate in any international sporting events representing Korea, thus him keeping his Japanese name. However, he is still a mega star in South Korea and actually sports both the Korean and Japanese flag on his Ki or shorts.

While Korea and Japan have had their historical differences, they are more allies than enemies, especially in the MMA world. They do have an immense and very intense sports rivalry though that sometimes gets mistaken as hatred.

I like this match-up

Sadollah can win this fight! It’s a matter of stuffing the takedowns and putting a muay thai clinic on Kim!
