The surging bantamweights, Damacio Page and Antonio Banuelos, will collide on the WEC's first pay-per-view card.
"WEC 48: Aldo vs. Faber" will take place on April at the Arco arena in Sacramento, Calif. The fight card is headlined by two title matches in which the featherweight champion, Jose Aldo, and lightweight champion, Benson Henderson, make their first defense of their respective belts: Aldo meets the former champion and hometown favorite, Urijah Faber, while Henderson faces Donald Cerrone in a rematch from their first encounter in which they vied for the interim lightweight title.
Page, a product of the Jacksons MMA, has earned consecutive first-round stoppages over Will Campuzano and Marcos Galvao in his last two fights at WEC 43 and WEC 39, respectively. Since signing with WEC, he has gone 3-1, suffering his lone loss against the current bantamweight champion, Brian Bowles. The upcoming fight against Banuelos will be his first since undergoing surgery to treat a shoulder injury.
Banuelos, a long-time training partner of former UFC light heavyweight champion, Chuck Liddell, also rides a two-fight winning streak. In his last two appearances at WEC 44 and WEC 41, he has edged Kenji Osawa and Scott Jorgensen, respectively, in fierce, three-round wars.
Both Page and Banuelos look to bolster their top contender status in the bantamweight division with a victory at WEC 48. At this point, WEC has no rendered a final decision on whether the Page-Banuelos will be featured on the televised portion of the card; however, given the fighters' stature in the bantamweight hierarchy and track record of explosive performance, there is a good chance that the bout will grace the maincard.
