Frank Trigg latest to be cut by UFC

Franktrigg412x232optonj2_medium

Former welterweight top contender Frank "Twinkle Toes" Trigg is the latest casualty in a long list of unfortunate souls who have been cut by the UFC following disappointing performances at UFC 109. Joining Frank on the unemployment line today was Phillipe Nover, Tim Hague, and Mark Coleman.

Trigg announced the news earlier today on his Twitter account.

His termination from the UFC comes after losing to Matt Serra inside of the cage, and quite frankly outside of the cage, at, and leading up to UFC 109.

Trigg, like his free agent counterpart Mark Coleman, was in his second go around with the promotion following a long layoff. And much like Coleman, Trigg didn't enjoy nearly the success the second time as he did in his first stint with the company.

Both of Trigg's defeats, to Josh Koshceck at UFC 103 and Matt Serra at UFC 109, came via knockouts in the first round. Even with a win against Serra last weekend, there wouldn't have been a long line of people waiting to drive the "Twinkle Toes" bandwagon.

Though his time with the UFC has come to an end, Trigg has stated that he unsure of where his MMA career is heading next. You folks have any ideas? Is he heading to Strikeforce? Japan? His couch? Let's hear it.

Trigg I'm sad to see you go but..

That’s two first round stoppages in a row; and he really didn’t look like a contender in either fight. Was hoping he could put on a better show; but I agree with the UFC here.

Later Frank. I liked it when you punched Hughes in the nuts. Buy yourself some hair clippers with the money you got from the Serra fight. Then lend them to Koscheck.

Funny sh*t

Totally off topic, but John Howard made a fan of me in that interview posted here earlier.

He seems to have a good balance of down-to-earth-ness and “hood” (as he puts it).

You know..

Maybe if he would stick to his wrestling pedigree and stop trying to stand with people maybe he might have better success…

they brought him back so

his value gets diluted when he goes to another promotion like strikeforce/dream/sengoku/bellator type deal. Smart business move. When his first fight was against koscheck you know he wasn’t picked up to make a good run to the title. They fed him to the wolves. I’d like to see Trigg commentate on strikeforce. Hope they drop the “fight professor”. That man is worse than Goldberg. Which is saying A LOT. IMO.

easy on the prof man, way better then goldie just not as "radio freindly" or "mainstream"...

Bas Rutten: He has a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Stephen Quadros: Yes, well many of the fighters

have a black belt.

Bas Rutten: Yes, but in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu you cant

buy your belt like in say, Tae Kwon Do.

Stephen Quadros: Do you have any belts?

Bas Rutten: I have a brown belt in Tae Kwon Do.

My favorite is still the voice michael schiavello!! Its goodnight irene!

Goldberg has no idea of what he's talking about 99% of the time.

I dislike both of them, they are extremely biased on the orders of the UFC and it’d be better if the commentators were from some tv network and not zuffa so we could get a realistic and truthful commentary sometime.

come on maaayn.

Goldie

Goldberg is very much annoying, and he says a ton of shit that pisses me off. I really hate how he says “One could argue that fighter x got round 1 and fighter y got the second round, this is the decisive round!!”…when it’s obvious BS just to make the 3rd round more exciting. Sometimes Rogan steps in and says “well, no” – which I respect.

Rogan is the voice of the UFC, they can’t replace him.

Randy's an awesome commentator, I'd like him to join Goldie and Rogan full-time when he retires

Goldberg points out the obvious far too much and at times sounds clueless but he’s better than some random TV hack, look at how terrible Gus Johnson and the Eurosport commentators are, TV channels can’t be trusted at this point to hire commentators. They actually make Tito’s performance for Affliction look decent in comparison.

That SF fight professor is decent if a bit anonymous at times, him and Mauro work well together though Shamrock ruins it for me. He’s easily the worst MMA analyst employed today, he’s either biased, indecisive or just flat out talks about himself the whole time, even Mir isn’t that much of an egomaniac.

Nobody can beat the Voice and Mezger at this point, though Bas was great in Pride as well. Those 3 mix intelligence with humour just like Rogan does. I also think that Kenny does a good job on commentary, as does Mir, and he has the potential to be a very good commentator in the future.

He was looking pretty good against serra till he got KO’d.
I’d rather see trigg fight than serra

by MikeAllen on Feb 11, 2010 1:09 AM EST reply actions

Honestly, I think it's a mental toughness thing

Trigg lacks in the mental toughness game. He looked calmer, no doubt. But he lacks the mental fortitude to hang with the big boys. The UFC is the shark tank of MMA. Strikeforce and WEC are the piraña and electric eel tanks, respectively.

Mike

u think he looked good against Serra? His punches had no power. His jab was weak! They were landing, but not due to skill…Serra wasn’t defending, he just walked through them. Even Serra said he barely felt them. He was just so lazy with his striking.

Can't compete

This just goes to show how stiff the competition is in the UFC. Trigg went 7-2 (which is respectable) since his last stint in the UFC in 2005 then comes back to the organization with back to back losses. And all those losses (save Robbie Lawlor) came at the hands of current UFC guys.
Essentially you’re a tough guy until you hit the big leagues. Then it’s make or break time. Unfortunately for Trigg, he was broken – easily.

Tailor made match-up for the Canadian Hand Grenade, the one good thing about no UK cards being announced recently is that I’ve once again avoided seeing Davis live it’s laughable that he got so many fights against cans by being a plastic paddy.

Think about how dumb the average person is, then realize that half of them are even dumber than that.
