Thiago Alves trying for the knockout in Jon Fitch rematch at UFC 111 (Video)

Will "The Pitbull" learn from his mistake at "Ultimate Fight Night 5?" Or will history repeat itself nearly four years later on March 27?

God I hope so....

I wouldn’t mind seeing Fitch get knocked out….

me neither

but he can take a good bit of punishment. I can’t see what Thiago will do to negate Fitch’s wrestling.

I won the signed Matt Serra Tee!!!! whoop whoop

In the name of the Fedor, the Anderson and the GSP. Amen.

judo and wrestling are different, Hughes isn’t the fighter he used to be, I believe Kos was going through his, something to prove on the feet phase, plus he took the fight at short notice. But I will admit his TDD looked good against Kos, when it was needed.

How did I know someone was going to nit pick my comment?

I knee to the face will negate wrestling. How about that?

by BNF on Feb 10, 2010 11:25 AM EST up reply actions

Somebody call Dan Hardy

I think BNF has GSP all worked out…. THE KNEE TO THE FACE!!!! It’s brilliant. with this, wrestling will now become obsolete in MMA.

I’m just having fun BNF :P

alves is gonna beat the crap out of Fitch!

Alves has the strength to deal with Fitch’-s td….Only reason he couldnt stop gsp’-s is because of how explosive he is…Fitch does have the explosiveness that GSP has…This fight is staying standing, and Fitch is going to get battered!

by John G. on Feb 10, 2010 12:15 PM EST up reply actions

I assume you meant doesn't'..

And I agree completely. Alves is tailor made to finish Fitch. He can stop his takedowns and has more power(then GSP) in his strikes and will be able to put him away. Personally, I don’t mind guys grinding out decisions, it’s all part of the game if it works it works. But i’ll be a very happy guy when Alves wins.

In the long run it doesn’t matter anyway, GSP will beat either of them again in a rematch.

unfortunately I agree with that...

Fedor invented a language that incorporates Sambo and Kimuras.

So next time FEDOR is kicking your ass, don't be offended or hurt, he may be just trying to tell you he likes your hat.

I see this ending the same as last time

Fitch avoiding Thiago’s strikes and taking him down for a smother session. MAYBE a sub….but that’s a BIG maybe.

It’s interesting that Thiago says GSP was exactly what he thought he would be but then had no idea how to deal with it once in the ring. He had better figure out Fitch if he wants to win. And a win for Thiago might be the only thing that will get the AKA guys to start fighting each other.

KOS – Not looking that great in his last 5 fights – Yoshida, Trigg and Johnson are not great wins in my books.

Fitch – Decisions, Decisions, Decisions – with a loss to GSP thrown in.

Swick – Same as KOS – not looking that great in his last 5 either.

Maybe they’ll realize they need to move on and switch up training partners then eventually fight each other while on different teams.

Maybe Fitch gets the sub. And maybe Jessica Alba shows up at my front door tonight wearing a lacy little number.

no chance

she’s due around my place for 18:30, about 30 mins before I get back from work. So that she has time to clean the house and get naked whilst Megan Fox cooks dinner.

Oh wait… that was just a dream.

Well shit. I guess that means Fitch won’t be getting a sub win either :)

that was what I was getting at originally

I just got caught up in a day dream… easy to do when bored at work.

I’d really like it if Fitch did finish though, a gogoplata or something

Not me. I hate Fitch and hope he gets brutalized. It would teach him a lesson for making me sit through all his lame hump sessions.

yer but I think

something spectacular and or rare like a gogoplata would make up for that, flying armbar!!!!

UFC needs to hire this guy,

this guy does the best interviews out there, he knows his stuff and knows how to keep the interview flowing, other than Rogan, he’s the best.

by Rubberman on Feb 10, 2010 11:59 AM EST reply actions

ALVEZ WILL WIN!

this guy stood up with gsp on top of him several times. his striking is second to none. hard to understand how people can miss how good alvez really is because of the loss to gsp. i think fitch is great but thiago will dominate this fight. he is the only one who has what it takes to beat gsp right now. i think his mental game has likely improved since that loss. the best should fight the best. personally, i don’t agree with the ‘always have to see new fights’ mentality.

Fitch overranked because of the UFC

I’m so tired of all this UFC bias in the rankings. I mean, honestly, does anyone think that John Fitch is the 2nd best WW in the world? Tyron Woodley would destroy him. It’s amazing the amount of bias that’s gvien to the UFC fighters in the rankings.

Both fighters learned from gsp beating

its true.
good fighters that fight and get gnp from gsp end up learning a good lesson about control.

but only one fighter gets to be on top at a time.
