UFC WW 8-Man Tourney Championship
We all know that Georges St. Pierre is the most dominate WW in the world. To the point that there is practically no one who can really provide a viable threat to him. GSP is in fact, widely regarded as the prototype for the future of MMA. A fighter that excels at every facet of the game. But what if GSP were to suddenly vanish? The UFC WW landscape would change dramatically. With that in mind, who would rule the UFC's WW division in a world without GPS? Time find out, Tournament style... Below is an 8-Man single elimination bracket to determine which WW would rule the division.
Semi-Final #2 looked much like the 1st meeting between Alves and Kos. Alves likely executed a gameplan similar to the first fight, mixing in stinging leg kicks with powerful hand strikes, while avoiding the takedown. Thiago took 63% of the vote, walking away with another convincing victory. That means the Championship fight is set, and for the 3rd time of the tourney, we will see a rematch of familiar foes.
QF1 1 Jon Fitch
8 Carlos Condit SF1 1 Jon Fitch
4 Paul Daley
QF2 4 Paul Daley
5 Matt Hughes Finals: 1 Jon Fitch
2 Thiago Alves
QF3 3 Josh Koschek
6 Paulo Thiago SF2 3 Josh Koscheck
2 Thiago Alves
QF4 2 Thiago Alves
7 Dan Hardy
Tournament Championship: Fitch and Alves 1st met back in 2006. That fight ended in Fitch's favor as he recorded the only TKO finish of his UFC career. That TKO loss remains the only such blemish on Alves's UFC resume. Since their 1st encounter, both men have been on the cusp of UFC gold, and certainly one of them would be the current champ, if not for one George St Pierre. Which of these top contenders have made the most improvement since their last meeting?
So lets hear it Maniacs. Who would rule the day, in a world without GSP? Who will claim the UFC WW Title? You decide.
