Jon Jones vs. Brandon Vera (205-pound limit)

Round one: Jones with an instant tie up and take down. Vera right to his feet. Nice knee from Jones to the body then he gets a big take down. Vera with full guard. Nice left from Jones. Vera again with an up kick but hits the shoulder this time. Vera with a high guard looking for an arm bar. Huge elbow from Jones and Vera is hurt bad!!! Jones throws some punches and Vera jumps into the fetal position and thats it the fight is over!!! Jon Jones with a HUGE victory over Brandon Vera. That elbow really must have done some damage it landed right on the eye socket and Vera is swollen and bleeding right away.

Final result: Jon Jones defeats Brandon Vera via TKO (Strikes) Round 1

-end-

Junior Dos Santos vs. Gabriel Gonzaga (265-pound limit)

Round one: Lots of dancing and distance to start. Leg kick from Gonzaga. Gonzaga with a brief take down but Dos Santos right back to his feet. Leg kick from Gonzaga. Jab from Dos Santos. Head kick from Gonzaga misses. Head kick from Dos Santos now. Both men land leg kicks. Good body shot from Junior. Leg kick from Gonzaga, Dos Santos lands a right. Dos Santos lands a big left hook and drops Gonzaga and Dos Santos jumps all over him and lands some BOMBS and Gonzaga is out cold!!! WOW Gonzaga is literally asleep. Junior Dos Santos once again is incredibly impressive.

Final result: Junior Dos Santos defeats Gabriel Gonzaga via TKO (Strikes) Round 1

-end-

Cheick Kongo vs. Paul Buentello (265-pound limit)

Round one: Buentello throws a big right but just misses. Kongo with a right and Buentello counters with a right. Kongo now going for a take down. Buentello defends. Their against the cage. Kongo finishes it off and now is in half guard. Big body shots from Kongo. Buentello walking up the cage. Buentello to his feet briefly and Kongo slams him back on the mat. Kongo keeping his weight on top of Buentello and landing some body shots. Buentello is free, but he immediately grabs his finger and is grimacing in serious pain. It looks like his finger is broken. The doctor pulls out the dislocated finger now and it seems that their ready to go. Back at it now. Two big rights from Kongo and a good counter from Buentello. Kongo with another good double leg take down. Knees to the body by Kongo. Herb Dean stands them up. Buentello throws a haymaker misses and falls and Kongo pounces and lands some good punches to end the round. 10-9 round for Kongo.

Round two: Jab from Buentello. Leg kick from Kongo. Good right from Kongo and then an uppercut and now both men are throwing bombs and they land!! Kongo takes down Buentello now and has his back and is landing some serious punches from the top. Buentello is trying to work his way up. Kongo stands and lands two HUGE knees to the body, but then inadvertently lands one to the head while Buentello is still down. Kongo is loosing a point which is huge. Kongo bully's his way inside and gets another take down. Kongo lands a good punch. Kongo with big big knee's to the body and Buentello stands up and Kongo lands two big rights and then gets another take down. Buentello bursts to his feet. Kongo now landing some serious knee's to the body. Big right and uppercut from Kongo and Buentello lands a lazy right and Kongo with another take down. Buentello is beaten up at this point. Kongo has the back from the top position. Their stood up. Big right from Kongo and uppercut from Buentello. Kongo with big knees to the thigh of Buentello. Thats the bell, Kongo dominates but looses a point. 9-9 round.

Round three: Kongo again with a take down. Kongo just holding position and throwing elbows to the back of the thigh. Kongo pounds away with some big elbows to the side of the ribs and that is it. Buentello taps out after a sound beating he couldnt have been any tougher but it just all piled up to be too much damage.

Final result: Cheick Kongo defeats Paul Buentello via submission (Strikes) Round 3

-end-

Alessio Sakara vs. James Irvin (185-pound limit)

Round one: Sakara with a good combo to start. Leg kick from Sakara. Leg kick from Irvin. Spinning backfist from Sakara. Leg kick from the Italian. Nice straight right from Sakara. Another good right from Alessio. Nice leg kick from Irvin but he is not throwing much. Good body shot from Sakara followed by a good right. Big snapping right from Sakara. Big jab from Sakara and Irvin grabs his eye and goes to his knee's. Josh Rosenthal stops the fight to check the eye, but so far it looks like a clean shot. One more look at the replay confirms it was a solid left hook that stunned Irvin and unfortunately the fight is being stopped when Irvin would have been in some big trouble. Now Rosenthal see's the replay and stops the fight and awards a TKO for Sakara and rightfully so, James Irvin tried to take the easy way out after having it put on him for the majority of the 1st round and luckily the referee got it right.

Final result: Alessio Sakara defeats James Irvin via TKO (Strikes) Round 1

-end-

best free card to date for UFC

I hope they somehow work it out that we can catch a couple the undercard fights. I wanna see Clays, Fishers, and couple more.

Great card! Can’t wait to see ‘Vera boring’ lookin up at the lights trying to see God.

Good card

It’s one of the better free cards do to the new network obviously. Has some PPV worthy fights that I really want to see, yet can’t cus I live in Canada…

JDS and Jones will win. It’s funny that Gonzaga and Vera both seem to not like to actually “fight”. They seem to lose their will once the fight is braught to them. Jones will UD Vera, JDS ko’s GG round 2(I only state round 2 because I hope GG gets JDS to the ground so we can see what his jits is like).

you guys serious?

They can’t leave us out? I know as of now we don’t have anything confirmed but Dana has a lot of respect for what we as Canadian fans give him. We’re the most important chunk of his market, person per capita wise. I’m sure he’ll take good care of us.

And if he doesn’t then I’ll hate him even more. Lol. Mania will let us know of something in the coming weeks I’m sure.

Ya well WEC is currently home to the score. And UFC has always replayed stuff on Sportsnet (damned Ultimate Fighter replays 10x a day).

So long as I don’t have to watch it as a replay I’ll be happy. I’m not sweating it just yet, we’ll be good.

Time for some CanCon...

Any of my fellow Canadian MManiacs know if/where this is going to air in the great white north? I’m hoping that the Score gets it (maybe they got these along with the WEC events) but it may air on Sportsnet like all the Spike stuff. I just haven’t seen anything. I wonder if an email to the UFC would get answered…

I agree that it will be interesting to see Vera in an exciting fight again. It’s been so long.

Also, is anyone talking about Robbie’s late hit on Manhoef? That one definitely made me feel a little uncomfortable. I mean the ref’s arm was across Lawlors body when he delivered that last punch. It might not have been egregious but it was definitely ugly.

by Canucklehead. on Feb 1, 2010 11:05 AM EST up reply actions

And he was staring into Melving eyes too.

He KNEW he was sleeping and the ref was pushing him off.

Watching it live, it doesn’t look so bad. But watching the replays, even normal speed, it was unnecessary.

There have been quite a few “bad” shots thrown to KO’d opponnents since UFC 100 yet all anyone wants to talk about is Hendo’s which really wasn’t even all that bad.

I AM SOMETIMES BIASED - Get over it!!!!!!!

i dont know about manslaughter

I really don’t think jones is walking through vera, as far as I remember none of the fighters he’s destroyed are at veras striking level, and vera proved he has some td defense against randy.
And gonzaga is a tough dude, solid fighter and good hands and kicks too.
So I think vera wins a decision, but I do think jds tkos gonzaga.

he’s got the out of the ring personality that could propel him in pop. vote

yes

Therefore making it not a better card. How can you say that when there is a title shot and a #1 contender shot on the same card? Plus throw in Daley vs Kos and I think that’s a fantastic PPV.

They are both great cards and I’d agree its better than most the last 7 besides Penn/Sanchez but not 111 or 112.

Sweet!!

This is Jones rise to the top. I know alot of you guys think he’s overhyped but I’m telling you he’s still young and can compete with the best, would he win against the best? maybe not but Vera is good solid figther and will not give Jones much of a reach advantage like he’s use to and a great fight to really test Jones. I would rate Vera just ahead of Jardine calibure as a fighter.

kongo against Paul will be a great stand up war, I beleive Kongo will win this one but it should be a KO in this one. And Howard against Johnson should be fireworks, Johnson is still pissed about his last fight and has a chip on his shoulder, I see Howard being Ko for the first time. And of coarse JDS looking like the best rising HW in MMA today and he’s going against a desperate Gonzoga who I’m expecting to put everything on the line, will it be enough I doubt it but you never know he needs a win badly wich should make for high energized fight either way.

This card is looking wicked and I think us fans will be spoiled early this year with all of last years injuries near the end of the year we are getting some stacked cards.

by Puck Head on Feb 1, 2010 12:16 PM EST reply actions

Jones is not over hyped.

He is a natural. G.Jackson has said that he has one of the most creative minds in MMA.
We’ve seen him peform well in every fight and the Hamil loss was a win to many of us. This fight against Vera proves that joe Silva agrees. In training apparently he is always coming up with new attacks and defences that even Jackson says extraordinary. And think about what Greg see’s daily in his gym. This could be a nasty fight for both guys.

Jones is the future… if you don’t know, now you know. Sucka.

Zino I agree

I’m jsut saying many on here believe he is. Some might of changed there tones after the hammil fight but I know some were still doubting his talents. Jones has a wrestling background but has showcased his striking more than his wrestling and done very well. I believe many will see how talented this kid is after this fight. I’m excited to see him fight he looks better each time he steps in the octagon.

I’m stoked for this card.

The weather might suck in the UK, I know it’s a free card in the US, but over here, even main events are virtually free (£10 a month on ESPN). Mind you, the weather does really suck :(

No that's what you do when guys establish wrist control on you in unified rules.

You elevate and land it on right on their head. I was expecting it as soon as brandon went for it. Watch GSP do it all the time. frostn just admit you hate jones instead of bashing his abilities. How many guys have made vera quit like that.

not saying he did anything…neither fighter did anything up until then except for Jones’s wrestling, which is very impressive I’ll give you that. What I’m saying is aside from an elbow to the eye socket Jones was not looking like some amazing worldbeater

How do you know he wouldn't have jsut gnp'd him like hammil?

these what ifs won’t go anywhere. So for now let’s just admit that elbow to the eye = offense and you hate jones.

by NNR (formerly NameNotRequired) on Mar 21, 2010 11:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh so now we’re projecting what would have happened if he hadn’t landed on the orbital? True, you can’t say for sure but it was obviously the shot to the eye which hurt him and none of them were gonna KO him, and Vera is no Hamill on the ground.

I don’t hate Jones and I’d definitely bet on him over a lot of ppl who are “top 10” but this particular performance didn’t teach us anything new about him. I’d like to see him fight King Mo.

Jones against King Mo would be interesting as neither of their

wrestling in getting top position would be a big advantage. But Mo isn’t 100% proven by any means as the fighters he has beat would get destroyed by Vera so far anyway.

in guard with hands extended almost asking for an armbar...

Upkick by vera. Gets deducted a point and is restarted from same postion. Jones gets a solid base in guard. Vera grabs his wrist, Jones postures and slams a huge elbow. brandon turtles, minor gnp from jones, ref stops it as vera grabs his eye.

I say JDS because it meant more.

That emphatic KO has a lot more behind it, technically, and also in terms of its consequences for a division compared. But brutality wise Doomsday takes it.

I don't know JDS is higher ranked but Howard is fighting for status himself and with that KO

might bring Doomsday to main card status pretty meaningfull if you ask me.
