Back before MTB and Aldo exploded onto the scene, there were exactly two big-name Featherweights in mainstream MMA: Urijah Faber and Norifumi "KID" Yamamoto. People were clamoring for a showdown between the two.
If MMAJunkie is to be believed, we may be closer than we think.
Steven Marrocco (http://mmajunkie.com/news/21674/featherweight-standout-norifumi-kid-yamamoto-in-ufc-contract-negotiations.mma) reports that the former featherweight monster intends to end his career in the UFC following the ending of his K-1 contract, either in the FW division or the Bantamweight..
For those of you unfamiliar with KID, you may recognize this:
Yamamoto (18-3 MMA, 1-3 K-1) essentially ruled JMMA's ligher divisions for years, pulling off a 5-year, 14-fight win streak before being unceremoniously decisioned by future Bellator champion Joe Warren and losing another decision to future Sengoku 143-pound champion Masanori Kanehara. During his streak, he beat such names as DREAM FW champion Bibiano Fernandes, veteran Jeff Curran, Genki Sudo, and wrestling superstar Kazuyuki Miyata with the monster knee seen above. Though the kickboxing record seems unimpressive, two of those losses were to Masato and Mike Zambidis, some of the best of all-time.
Personally, I feel like I'm riding a unicorn on a rainbow road to wonderfulness. Finally.
