UFC Fight for the Troops 2: Cody McKenzie vs Yves Edwards on tap for Jan. 22 in Fort Hood

It looks like Yves Edwards will have a new opponent for "Fight for the Troops 2" on Jan. 22 in Fort Hood, Texas.

Less than 24 hours after it was announced that Melvin Guillard would replace the injured Kenny Florian to meet Evan Dunham, Cody McKenzie has stepped up to replace "The Assassin."

Through sources close to the bout, confirms that verbal agreements are in place.

Undefeated lightweight "Big Time" McKenzie was a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season 12. McKenzie made it to the quarter-finals of the show before suffering a TKO loss to Nam Phan. Since TUF wins/losses aren't counted as professional MMA bouts, the loss does not go on McKenzie's record. On TUF 12 Finale, McKenzie made quick work of Aaron Wilkinson by submitting him in just over two minutes.

Can McKenzie score a "Big Time" win over a UFC veteran?

The "Thugjitsu Master" has gone 5-1 in his last six outings. Before making his return to the Octagon, Edwards competed in Shine Fights, defeating James Warfield via triangle choke. His next two bouts were TKO wins over Kyle Jensen and Derrick Noble. Edwards rebounded from a unanimous decision loss to Mike Campbell by defeating Luis Palomino at Bellator 24. Edwards would have a successful UFC return by beating John Gunderson.

On tap for UFC: "Fight for the Troops 2," Melvin Guillard replaces an injured Kenny Florian to take on top lightweight prospect Evan Dunham. Also on the card, Matt Mitrione looks to continue his momentum in the heavyweight division when he battles Tim Hague. Featherweights Mark Hominick and George Roop will look to build off their recent wins when they go toe-to-toe.
