Now this is some quality matchmaking.
MMAJunkie reports that March 19th's UFC 128, headlined by the long-overdue showdown between Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and top contender Rashad Evans, will feature a spectacular lightweight showdown between two top strikers when lanky head-kicker Anthony Njokuani faces leg-devouring prospect Edson Barboza.
Njokuani, a WEC import, is notorious for his wicked kickboxing. He burst onto the scene with some excellent knockouts, including a rather hilarious starching of a retreating Chris Horodecki, before a series of unfortunate events sidelined his career.
Following a one-sided submission loss to Shane Roller, Njokuani called his foe a "fag" on Twitter and subsequently ate canvas against Polish import Maciej Jewtuszko. Though he righted his ship with a TKO win at WEC 52, he may still be on thin ice as he enters the UFC.
The undefeated Barboza, only 24, made noise at UFC 123 with a wicked leg kick stoppage of Mike Lullo, displaying solid wrestling and submission defense in addition to deadly striking. With six (T)KOs and one submission among his seven victories, the Brazilian Muay Thai monster looks to chop down Njokuani and assert himself as the future of the UFC lightweight division.
This is going to be fucking awesome.
