Did you guys know that at one point Tyson was having serious conversations to sign with PRIDE?

PRIDE wanted to break into the US and they thought he might draw big viewership fighting Fedor and Cro Cop in boxing matches then mma matches. Just a minor tidbit of history there.

But seriously the man knows his mma, he’s been close to it for a long time and though i doubt he can help teach vitor how to deal with andy, Tyson was a very very intelligent fighter early in his career and prior to his imprisonment. He was supposedly always great at analyzing fights and watching tape. So a more prepared vitor is nothing but great so that when anderson dismantles him, everyone will see how truly superior he is.

Not only does he know his mma

He knows his boxing history and striking, seriously. I’ve heard enough people say that that all he used to do was study film of all the greats. Instead of public schoold he went to striking school so he should be able to help with some tactical info.

Silva just won’t get KO’d Vitor will hang tough for awhile but Silva will wear on him and get the KO or submission

Thats about Vitors only shot at hurting Anderson Silva! Unless Vitor clips him with his very fast hard punches? but I doubt it? Vitor is definetly the guy with the best chance not for his all round skills, but for his one punch ko power. Will see but I would never put money against the best p4p fighter Silva Period.

His only chance at hurting silva is biting him in his eard UNLESS vitor only clips him with his very hard fast punces and he has one punch KO power.

Vitor has the power and speed but the Sonnen knockdown isn't relevant

Sonnen was able to hit Silva because Silva was afraid of his TDs and not respecting his punching at all. Silva won’t have the same mindset against Vitor…in fact, he’ll really only be worried about Vitor’s hands. Vitor has great skills in many areas, but only uses them defensively. At one time Vitor’s JiuJitsu was considered second only to Rickson’s in the world. But for some reason, he’s only ever used it defensively in MMA, so Silva’s only gotta keep out of range of Vitor’s hands and pick him apart with leg kicks and jabs. That’s not what I WANT to happen, but that’s what I think this fight will look like. However, nothing on earth could make me happier than seeing Andy asleep on the mat with my long-time-favorite Vitor standing over him wearing the belt!

Now I hate Sonnen as much as the next guy

But shonuff, you can’t just call what he did “irrelevant”. Whether or not Andy was defending the takedown, Sonnen clipped him and knocked him down. That’s something impressive especially since Andy has a good chin. I would say it’s very relevant.

Now, if you said it was irrelevant bc Chael was taking Popeye’s cans of spinach… Then I might agree with you.

I’m not saying it wasn’t impressive. It impressed the hell out of me! I’m also not saying it’s irrelevant to MMA history or anything. I’m just saying it isn’t relevant to predicting the outcome of Silva-Vitor. I’m saying Sonnen didn’t outstrike Silva by being a better striker, he outstruck him by confusing him with a multi-pronged attack that had Silva paying more attention (rightfully so) to Chael’s Takedown attempts than to his fists. Vitor doesn’t pose the same KIND of threat. Silva won’t be worried about Vitor’s TD, so he’ll be able to focus completely on defending Vitor’s fist and is not likely to get caught by surprise even though Vitor is a far better puncher than Sonnen.

Ah, excellent clarification.

Absolutely agree. I think Vitor will pose a different threat indeed. But my doubts with Vitor lie in his cardio.

He’s never been known to be a card machine, and his fights at mw have never gone beyond the 2nd round.

But I hope for a great fight. And for those who hate karate in MMA, consider the fact that Vitor just got promoted to blue belt in Shotokan. He’s implementing it in his arsenal, and we saw some if it in his fight with Ace.

my doubts lie elsewhere

my biggest doubt with Vitor (who has always been one of my favorites) are always related to his self-confidence. You can usually tell by the look in his eye before the fight even starts whether he’s going to win. When he really believes he’ll win, he’s aggressive, pushes the action, and usually dominates. When he has doubts or isn’t successful early in the fight, his confidence fades and he goes into defense mode. I think Silva may be the only guy in MMA with faster hands than Vitor AND Silva has a longer reach, better timing, pinpoint accuracy, a very solid chin, and a more multi-dimensional striking game that includes kicks and brutal knees. I don’t think it’s a huge difference, but I think it will be enough to frustrate Vitor in the early rounds, rob him of his momentum, and make him lose heart. I hope to God I’m wrong, but I think that’s the most likely scenario here.

The plann was it to announce it at the K1 match where he stepped into the ring with Sapp but he didnt show for press conference. That’s why Tyson had so many debts he signed a bunch of contracts and just didnt stick to them

Every time Tyson has talked about fighting an MMA guy, he always stipulates “Marcuth of Qweenthberry rulth!” He’s never even hinted that he would fight anyone by MMA rules or even K-1 kickboxing rules. It’s hand-only or nothin’ for “Iron” Mike. My guess is that he learned enough about “ground-n-pound” and “submission” in prison to make him afraid of ever having another man on top of him again.

Tyson seems under control nowadays

Proper meds probably, older, he really appreciates MMA Im sure he would have a lot to contribute to the sport as a p/t boxing trainer for certain high profile fighters, Tysons style techniques should fit well for Belfort.

The beauty-pageant girl’s rape charges were corroborated by the doctor who examined her AND by Tyson’s own chauffer. He was convicted by a unanimous jury “beyond a reasonable doubt” and the conviction was upheld in the court of appeals. The only question is how the hell he only served 3 years of a 10 year sentence and was allowed back in the ring to repeatedly cannibalize Holyfield’s ears, and then a year after that got his license to fight reinstated!!! WTH?!? How the hell do you eat pieces off a guy in the ring and ever get licensed again?

…any jury would have convicted Tyson of anything. They never should have let him take the stand. The chauffer said that the gal seemed to be in a state of shock, the doctor saw the woman 24 hours after the fact.

If the evidence of rape was still there 24 hrs afterwards, that only implies that the physical damage was worse and sustained. Unless you’re suggesting that the girl ran out of the hotel in a state of shock and got someone else to rape her before going to see the doctor.

Is Vitor jokin? How does this help?

1. Tyson’s a boxer, not an mma fighter.
2. Tyson’s style works great for Tyson, it doesn’t work with most fighters.
3. Tyson’s not a trainer, he’s a fighter. Much like Rampage.
4. Tyson’s too old.

How wouldnt it help and have you ever seen mma/boxing trainers most are old and fat but they have they have the knowledge

You don’t think tyson would give vitor some good tips he was trained by the best. Do you think mma fighters don’t train in boxing? Why do you think mma fighters call in freddie roach? Anyways I don’t see how this would hurt Vitor at all unless Tyson knocks him out during sparring haha

Tyson wouldn’t fight Rizzo under MMA rules for any amount of money. And since this is an MMA fight, I think I’d prefer Rizzo’s advice over Tysons.
