Dean of Fatigue: Keith Jardine wants to get back to the UFC -- after some time off

Props: MMAWeekly.com

Quoteworthy:

"I ran into that Trevor Prangley fight because after I got fired from the UFC, I agreed to that two days afterwards, I just wanted to get that fight done and get back in the UFC. I was still over-trained from the (Matt) Hamill fight, I needed the time off. Now I'm taking a look at my career and where I need to go and my goal is to get back in the UFC, and contend for that title. I want to fight for that title and I feel like my career's not going to be complete until that happens. Now what I'm going to do is take a look at everything and see what I need to do to get to that point."

Former UFC light-heavyweight punching bag Keith Jardine is anxious to get back into the world's largest fight promotion. So eager in fact, that he rushed into his fight against Trevor Prangley and quickly gassed before dropping a split decision to run his losing streak to five. Now that he's finally back in the win column after taking a decision over Francisco France at the debacle that was Nemesis Fighting: "MMA Global Invasion," the Greg Jackson fighter is ready to take some time off to plot and plan his way back into the UFC. Can he make a successful return to the big leagues of MMA? Let's hear it, Maniacs.

keith worry more about not being punch drunk then some fake ass dream you have, you will never get back into the ufc, much less contend for a title. hang em up and avoid looking like ken shamrock

my sig might be gay but you're the dumbass that read it

Lol, a typical keyboard warrior comment

Shitting on a fighters dream because your life probably sucks. If Keith wants back in, then hats off to him. He certainly has the talent. Too bad people like you can’t appreciate that.

I will be surprised if he can but I will be rooting for him. Some time off couldn’t hurt. He’s gotten pretty beaten up a lot in his last few fights.

by RyanHobbs on Dec 25, 2010 11:38 PM EST reply actions

if he learns to protect his chin sometimes, then I think he could do it.

by 79guy on Dec 25, 2010 11:39 PM EST reply actions

I feel bad for Keith

He beat Chuck and Forrest but couldn’t making anything happen for him. His style is hard to mimmic but his chin is made of glass

Based on your comment

He does have a glass jaw. That’s why I have so elegantly nicknamed him Keith “Glass Jawrdine”

I wish Jardine the best and he will be remembered for some good wars in the UFC. Problem is that he isn’t getting any younger and hasn’t really showed any improvement over the last year and a half.

by NateDogg77 on Dec 26, 2010 12:20 AM EST reply actions

he still has some fight in him

He should focus on cleaning up in the smaller shows. He can save a place for Leben, Stann, Marquardt, and maybe Fedor as that’s the level of competition he’s comfortable with

"I want to fight for that title"

Jardin is delusional! He’s got KO’d way to many times!

by ducknow on Dec 26, 2010 10:46 AM EST reply actions

I think maybe someone has selective memory

He beat Chuck when Chuck was still a serious test, smashed Forrest into oblivion, went toe to toe with Rampage and almost won, the man has done some good things. Try to keep that in mind as well.

by judomania on Dec 26, 2010 11:35 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

lol

clinging onto the past ey

You cant defend the fact hes 3-7 in his last 10 fights and gets KO’d far too often. He’ll probably be back in the UFC after he beats a few cans. But no chance he gets to the title or remotely close

by Rampagelangford on Dec 26, 2010 12:03 PM EST up reply actions

It's not clinging to the past

Sure he’s had some bad runs, but consistency is difficult to keep. Besides, how would you like it if someone watched your work and only named off the shitty things you did, completely neglecting the positives?

Good with the bad I say.

by judomania on Dec 26, 2010 12:08 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Im SO glad someone called Judo out on this

Whether you like him or not, lets not deny reality here. Jardine has a terrible record lately. Besides his last win, against Francisco France (who’s biggest win was against Cale Yarborough), his last win was 7 fights ago, against Vera none the less. He saying he wants to make a run for “that title” is beyond ridiculous, he is not even in the UFC for heavens sake. One step at a time Jardine, how about you win against a credible opponent, perhaps get back in the UFC, string together some wins, and maybe, just maybe it would be relatively OK to talk about the UFC belt. But for now, its a ridiculous comment on his part!

by Thunder Biscuit on Dec 26, 2010 12:12 PM EST up reply actions

A. I've never seen you here before so I don't know why you're glad I'm being called out

B. I never denied he has a consistency problem, I just think many MMA fans are fickle and forget the positives of a fighter
C. Why am I even explaining myself? I don’t care what you think.

by judomania on Dec 26, 2010 12:21 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

And try and keep in mind....

the 10 fights he had after the fights you mentioned!

by ducknow on Dec 30, 2010 11:49 AM EST up reply actions

You just don't like being called out

A.Yeah, you’ve never seen me here, I’ve probably posted about 12 comments total in the last year. But I am here, everyday. The fact that you are jumping on people for pointing out Jardine’s flaws, calling them keyboard warriors like you are some highly respected MMA analyst made me come out of hiding.

B. Remembering positives about a fighter doesn’t negate the reality of a poor stretch of fights. Jardines inconsistency isn’t his problem. His problem is that he consistently loses. I remember how great Chuck was but it still doesn’t mean he is relevant and worthy of title contention rants.

C. You do care what I think, that is why you explained yourself.

by Thunder Biscuit on Dec 26, 2010 12:37 PM EST reply actions

Ah, so you're a lurker. You lurk and peer in on people and only join when you feel it is conveniant

Also, proving that you know nothing about anything, I am quite civil in my posts for the most part, but I do not care for people who are keyboard warriors and shit on the athletes when they would never be caught dead anywhere near a cage.

If you think I care about you, then delusion has set in. I like conversing with cats who are insightful and balanced, not folk such as you who in their first exchange with me say “I got called out” when all that happens is someone disagreed with me. Go back to lurking.

by judomania on Dec 26, 2010 4:15 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Lurker huh?

Good to know someone with a limited amount of time to engage in conversation is called a “Lurker”. I prefer to not comment because I don’t have time to respond to responses, I work full time and raise my child, which doesn’t leave much time to be an active poster and participate in current discussions. And how do you know I wouldn’t be caught dead around a cage? To think that I am not “insightful or balanced” because you haven’t engaged a conversation with me before is quite ignorant. Just because my opinion isn’t voiced on a daily basis here doesn’t mean I know any less that you, OK? So get off of your high horse.
I was happy you were called out because the first comment on this thread was crude, but fairly accurate, and you jumped in with the “keyboard warriors and your life sucks” response. I may be a “lurker”, but I am completely aware that you normally engage in civilized conversation. I just thought you came off as arrogant and childish using those kinds of personal insults.
Bottom line is this, and I say this in a strictly objective manor. Yes, Keith Jardine has had great fights. Yes, he is talented. No, he should not be publicly stating that he is looking to be on a UFC LHW title run. IT IS RIDICULOUS! He isn’t even a part of the promotion where he wants to make a title run, he has won 2 of his last 9, and gone 1-1 in the “B” leagues after being cut. That is a delusional man.

by Thunder Biscuit on Dec 26, 2010 5:44 PM EST up reply actions

Fair enough TB

I concede, that one sentence may indeed have sounded arrogant, so I retract that.
You make a good case, and I can admit when I am not always on point. Also, I find the word “lurking” funny so don’t take it too offensively.

by judomania on Dec 26, 2010 5:58 PM EST up reply actions

Also, I can relate to working full time and raising a tiny tot

So now I feel like a jerk for calling you a lurker. Damn you for turning this on me!

I still think Jardine has a lot to offer, but he needs to keep those hands up.

by judomania on Dec 26, 2010 6:01 PM EST up reply actions

Lurker

is not a cutdown. It’s simply a word used to describe the many people that come to the site but choose not to comment. That’s all.

Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.

You may be right

The term “Lurker” does apply to me, pretty precisely too, minus the negative connotations. I come here to check the news and get updates but find the discussion and banter almost more entertaining, I just don’t participate regularly. I guess I just don’t want to be grouped in with the ignorant variety of lurkers. But in your defense, how would you know that I know my shit if I never prove it? I’m kind of like Jardine in a sense, I want something without earning it. Go figure. What an ironic realization.

by Thunder Biscuit on Dec 26, 2010 7:19 PM EST up reply actions

Ha.

Being a lurker doesn’t make anybody ignorant. Before I was writing for this site, I was a lurker. I think in some ways, the community is so tight knit that it’s tough for new people to break in. It takes a little bit of time to get to know everyone and most of the regulars post during the week instead of the weekend. But once you get ingrained into the community, it’s Mania for life. Either way, I’m glad you’re here.

Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.

Keith Jardine is 35

I’m 36 and even I know I’m past my best due date.

Whoa, don't you think you're being a tad harsh on yourself my man?

I mean that’s still in your physical prime baby! Also, in 2009, only one of the 5 champs in the UFC was under 30, and that was GSP. So cheer up chief. The Dean of Mean as just made a bad habit of keeping his hands down.

Good show sir. Your post was full of hilarity.

33 is a young man. Why I’m fifty-eleven meself and find that I still have a spring in my step.

I don’t want to know what a Justin Bieber is and consider myself a great lesbian.

War Techno Viking!!!

Jardine’s style seems sloppy to me…. but… I completely respect his personality as a fighter and person and his willingness to mix it up and the fact he beat Liddell and Forrest. I hope he makes it back to the UFC and gets a few wins in the mix regardless of what any of these haters say about him… I’ve only got one thing left to say….

lets take a look at the big picture here

The UFC employs the BEST fighters in the world. Do we really think that keith’s one of the best fighters in the world? And if so… Why does he keep losing? I say put him in the recycle bin (aka strikeforce) for now until he can show some promise.
