If the US had a champion as dominant over the past three years, could he be in the running for best athlete of the year at the ESPYS? Has one ever been before? I can’t get close to an answer.

He did score “the goal” but he lost the Hart to Henrik Sedin. Nobody has even come close to beating GSP. Boring fights for GSP? Maybe but he completely dominated his opponents. The Penguins lost to 8th place Montreal in the second round of the playoffs last year.

yeah it's obviously a biased voting fan base

So yes, it is JUST the Sportsnet Canadian Athlete for 3 consecutive years. A small feat which almost compares to winning a free cup of coffee from the local coffee shop.

It is something worthy

but it is voted on by the fans, in a bracket format.

Same as the FOTN in UFC 124 where fans gave it to GSP instead of the deserving fight, but thats how fans roll!

The Lou Marsh award is selected by a panel of journalist, who make a rational decision on who it should be, which holds more merit. But this is still a nice accomplishment for the sport of MMA

But why wasn’t Gsp/Kos worthy of FOTN? Lemme guess you had Thiago Alves vs Howard? That fight looked very similar to me. Howard getting stomped for 15 mins while Alves dominated. Just curious as to who you saw taking FOTN. I loved both fights. I just don’t see either being a bad call for FOTN.

ya, but see i kinda have outgrown the sloppy fights

Don’t get me wrong, I prefer them over 2 guys rolling and clinching for 15 mins, but like Dana is one to judge em. I mean Garcia and Sung Jung was fun, but its really two guys wildly swinging. Its fun, but its time to start appreciating the true technicalities of the sport, and the ppl who have mastered it, in my opinion. Like I said, I’m not saying I don’t wanna see the wild swingers anymore. Just that I don’t know if I care to reward them everytime now. Perhaps if it is truly the best fight of the night. But most times a more technical domination is more worthy to me.

fair enough.

I guess it’s mostly due to how tight and crisp Gsp’s boxing had gotten. That greatly impressed me. He’s already known to have the most dominant takedown, and wrestling, so adding the incredible display of technical striking he showed, and putting Koscheck in a fight where he had virtually 25 mins on the feet to land “the shot” and he wasn’t able to get anything off, showed me yet more weapons in Gsp’s arsenal, and that he truly is growing each fight like he says. That’s worthy in my opinion. Especially since ppl were clinging to him being a “lay and pray” til then. Now they can only whine about him not finishing. But his striking, dare I say, looked on par with Andy’s. He landed some high kicks etc. Just didn’t get Kos wobbled enough to finish. But I hear what you’re saying. I just don’t give Dana’s taste/opinion that much merit.

Stupid Award

Sportsnet should be ashamed of themselves… Three years in a row, this is a joke, and it’s obvious that they voting system is flawed. Yes, GSP won two fights this year, which is great, but one of them was the most boring fight of the year.

Sydney Crosby scored one of the biggest goals in international hockey history, and is far and away the top player in the NHL this season.

Joey Votto had an amazing season, leading the Reds to the playoffs, and being only the second Canadian ever to him an MVP in MLB.

GSP deserves to be nominated, and probably even be in the top four, but there’s no way he should have won. I should mention that GSP is my favorite MMA fighter.

Does some provinces use it more than others? Eh?

Curious. I’ve only been to Ontario and New Brunswick. Ontarians say it more often it seems compared to the easterners I’ve known. Does it get used more or less in the west?

well..

i’ve only been to ontario once myself..but a lot of them move out here..i am a victim of saying eh, with out even realizing it..ontario peeps have their own little accents with certain words..obviously french canadians don’t use eh, as far as i have noticed.. and i apologize again yan for making fun of gsp’s accent..i don’t have a problem with the french canadian accent..i think it is a combo of his voice and the accent..but his english is improving soooo much seeing how he could speak no english at all when he first started out..i give the newfies the funny talking award of canada!!

I don't think I can be personally offended when I'm here.

I don’t think I have ever been let alone by a fine lady like you. I oppose idiocy and blind hate only and fortunately, there’s not as much of it here on Mania as one would expect from an open and free forum. Everything else including the insults and big words are just good fun between consenting adults.

Are you standing under the mistletoe?
