UFC Quick Quote: ‘Having a UFC in Brazil without a Gracie wouldn’t make sense’

Renzo_gracie_1_medium

"It's Renzo's dream to fight in a UFC in Brazil, but it's up to the UFC and Dana [White] to make it happen. Having a UFC in Brazil without a Gracie wouldn't make sense."

-- Renzo Gracie's manager, Abdel Aziz, tells MMAfighting.com that his fighter wants to compete on the Aug. 27, 2011 card at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. In his UFC debut, the legendary instructor was destroyed by "Gracie Hunter Version 2.0" Matt Hughes back in April of this year (2010), but that hasn't tempered his enthusiasm for the sport and he desperately wants to be there when the promotion returns to his homeland. With negotiations apparently underway for Royce to make his return on the card, are we in for a Gracie family reunion when the UFC hits Brazil? If it comes to fruition, how would you feel about that? Opinions, please.

I kinda agree

I mean we should atleast have a video tribute or place the Gracie family in the hall of fame(I know Royce is in). But, what fight does anyone want to see occur that would atleast be entertaining lol

Yes Gracie, No Renzo

Renzo wasn’t anywhere near UFC caliber when he fought Hughes and should never be in the UFC again. Im not a Gracie hater, just a fact. I mean c’mon! Dude asked for Hughes help back up during the fight!

Edson Barboza and Charles Oliveira are gonna stir up the pot at 155!

Dana said we'll probably never see Renzo in there again so .....

yea he’ll probably start off the main event against Baroni or something. Yea something like…..get the “Renzo avenges Cesar” plotline…..best eva…..gracie jui jitsu……flashing old pride highlights…..“This is really an interesting fight” from joe rogan." There it is for you.

Even in PRIDE's hayday when they tossed big $$$ around he was way way way too expensive.

He’s also 50 some years old. Want to see though if he can add one more armbar to the legend lol.

Let BJ go in there and knock him out.

I see a blood bath then

First in the ring then in the crowd as a result. Legends or not I just don’t see the Gracies hanging with these younger more diverse fighters.

Having a UFC in Brazil without a Gracie wouldn’t make sense

Absolutly.

Now WHICH gracie is debatable.

I say Royce as a honorary judge.

No way

They should let this guy fight in the ufc. He couldn’t overcome leg kicks from Matt Hughes. Nuff said.

The perfect Gracie would be

Roger he is in his prime and is pretty well known. But sadly he plays in the minor league

Edson Barboza and Charles Oliveira are gonna stir up the pot at 155!

by robinhorobson on Dec 22, 2010 7:29 PM EST via mobile reply actions

LoL....right....the minor league, where bonner was headed till the fight vs kristof S...

but now hes still an exciting fighter in the big leagues

whereas had he gone SF, hes just a minor league washed up fighter who cant fight at the big stage….

oh please….

no, dont say your bad

you were absolutely right and that douche decided to call you out for no reason…ill take cain, brock, carwin, jds, schaub, mir, nog, and nelson over fedor and overeem any day…and bonnar should be in SF, the only reason he didnt get cut is cause of TUF 1…every single division in strikeforce is weak compared to the UFC…not only was SD chief condescending, he was also wrong…bad combo

This is a very arrogant statement

saying it wouldnt make sense to have a ufc in Brazil without a Gracie. Yes they are hugely important in the sport and have been part of the ufc since the beginning, but theres not any Gracies currently active that are good enough to be competitive in the ufc. There are tons of other brazilians though who are badass and im sure have a huge fanbase down there. the Gracies are not the only brazilian fighters who matter anymore, they shouldnt automatically get a fight when there are so many better brazilian fighters these days.

i dont give out free signatures

Arrogant is the middle name of every gracie

But the UFC put toney on their fucking maincard so why not put this chump on the card if it gets them $$$

The Best Thing For Renzo and Royce

Is a grappling match for each guy. Even on the PPV or on Spike Prelims. ADCC rules. Gi or no Gi. Probably Gi.

Or put on a UFC Expo in Brazil and have the Gracies run the Jiu Jitsu seminar/exhibitions

by AintNoSunshine on Dec 23, 2010 12:40 PM EST reply actions

Untrue. They can win in MMA still. However, the UFC wont hand pick an easy opponent for them because it would be disrespectful and pointless to do so. Every named opponent in each fighters weight class will be too good.

If the UFC wanted to give them squash matches they could.
