Paul Daley responded on the UG  today to Gilbert Melendez calling him out:

Gilbert Melendez has called me out.  Says he'll fight at 170lbs.  I'm down, but i know i will get negative feedback from the MMA Media for fighting a Lightweight...again, despite having KO/TKO'd 2 middleweights in my past 3 fights (Acacio and Smith).  So still we have a problem, what i want is another fight in between fighting Diaz, a fight that makes sense and qualifies me, for fighting for the Strikeforce WW title.

This is very strange to me.  Not that he thinks mma media would be negative about him fighting a lightweight, but that he just recently called out KJ Noons, another lightweight.  At least Gilbert is calling out someone who is in a weight class above his, not trying to call out someone that is a lot smaller.  

Daley brags about knocking out 2 middleweights "in his past 3 fights," but fails to mention being dominated by a welterweight (Josh Koscheck).  Daley has a chance to beat anyone willing to stand and bang with him, but will most likely get dominated by anyone who has halfway decent wrestling.  Paul has to realize that any smart fighter will take him down and pound him out or submit him.  

Instead of being worried what the media thinks, maybe he should get into the gym and practice his takedown defense.  Calling out washed up has beens or never were's (Cung Le), someone who will obviously stand (Cyborg), or lightweights (KJ Noons) doesn't further his career as much as training hard and becoming well rounded will.

If Gilbert got his wish and Strikeforce set up a fight between he and Daley, I'd put my money on Melendez.  His wrestling is good enough to take Daley down, and once the fight hit the ground, his BJJ is more than adequate enough to submit him.  What do you guys think?
