A Look at Prior Division Mergers and What it Means for WEC Lightweights "Early in 2009, the WEC folded three divisions (light heavy-, middle- and welterweight) into the UFC fold. After looking through the fight cards for the prior year of WEC fights, and examining the records of any fighters that competed in those classes for the WEC in that time, only 17 had their contracts rolled over and progressed from a WEC fight to a UFC bout, or less than six per division. By the end of 2009, nine of those fighters, more than half, had been decisively beaten and dropped."
