Sonnen-wandy

Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva will not coach Season 13 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), tweets MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani. Dana White is expected to make his decision by Friday (Dec. 17).

Perhaps a win for Dominick Cruz at WEC 53 puts him in line for a coaching gig (and eventual rematch) against Urijah Faber?

Too bad. The trash talking at least from Chael’s side would have been epic.

Somehow I don't think Wand would put up with that type of disrespect

There’d be an incident, possibly assault charges, no fight, and a big sad face for everyone

i don't think sonnen would trash talk him in a disrespectful way

after seeing the vid of them in that car where wand was setting sonnen straight you could tell sonnen has a lot of respect for wand, and vice versa. i think he’d call his fighting strategy into question but that’s about it, definitely nothing like his personal attacks on silva

It's funny how differently people can interpret a video.

I did not have see Sonnen as intimidated in the least. Dismissive, yes. Egotistical, yes. Afraid, no.

by HEELHOOK on Dec 15, 2010 1:33 PM EST up reply actions

I think it could still happen

This is to soon to announce for the Brazil show and if this one happens it will be Team USA vs Team Brazil. I expect a season to be announced and done around March or April and another one before the show in Brazil. I just think there will something of this sort.

by Edgecrusher71 on Dec 15, 2010 3:51 PM EST up reply actions

Why would Chael and Wanderlei get a show?........

You just got busted for steroids Chael would you like to get your own TV show?!?!

by Mattito on Dec 15, 2010 4:59 PM EST up reply actions

That’s the reason I don’t like this, it sends a bad message to the fighters on the show and to casual fans and non-fans. It would be too distracting for everyone involved. Give him a fight or two to allow this all to blow over. But in the future I would like to see him on there, him and Bisbing would be hilarious. Then we could watch Sonnen beat the hell outta him for 15 minutes at the end of it all.

What do you think about Varner vs Roller tomorrow?

Im on the fence

No Pressure, No Diamonds - Thomas Carlyle

by Bigger Zino on Dec 15, 2010 1:02 PM EST up reply actions

Both guys have only really lost to top guys for the most part. varner for as much hate as he gets has only lost to Cerrone, Ben Hendo and Hermes Franca. I mean the guy is a very good fighter. Roller has lost to Pettis and Henderson.

But I give the edge to Varner.

by AintNoSunshine on Dec 15, 2010 1:17 PM EST up reply actions

Varner will whip him on the feet and his wrestling is more than good enough to keep it standing.

by Bigger Zino on Dec 15, 2010 1:30 PM EST up reply actions

I still don't really like the guy (from quitting the 1st Cerrone fight)

But he is a decent fighter and IMO clearly won that fight.

If Shalarous developed his stand-up and transitions into even decent shape, he will be a beast in the UFC.

No Pressure, No Diamonds - Thomas Carlyle

by Bigger Zino on Dec 15, 2010 1:34 PM EST up reply actions

Varner didnt quit. He couldnt continue. Big difference. If your eye sight was on the line I am positive pretty much everyone says thats enough if given the chance. When you cant see out of an eye thats scary shit. trust me Ulf… if I thought Varner was a big pussy for not wanting to continue I would agree. But even if he lost that round he would still have beat Cerrone so it wasnt like he wanted a way out. He wasnt KO’s so it wasnt like he was prolonging a stoppage.

by AintNoSunshine on Dec 15, 2010 1:37 PM EST up reply actions

He won the first 3 rounds, granted

Cerrone owned him in the 4th. Varner had no momentum, was gasping for breath and he got grazed by an illegal knee.

Pretty convenient. Almost as convenient as the eyepoke that Rumble gave Kos.

Listen, I think that if he really was seeing double or couldn’t see or whatever, he should have stopped, but honestly, there is enough there to question his heart in wanting to keep fighting. Varner laid on his knees and acted like it was the most illegal strike ever. He never seemed like he wanted to recover. Add in his nonchalance in the interview after the fact, and it feels weird.

by Ulf Murphy on Dec 15, 2010 1:55 PM EST up reply actions

True. But we dont know the extent of what that knee did. Like I said if I was hit by a knee that caused me to lose vision and was given a chance to walk out without further damage I would have to put my health first.

by AintNoSunshine on Dec 15, 2010 1:58 PM EST up reply actions

Thats what Im talking about ULF. Maybe criticize him a bit for his actions, but understand you will never know the whole story and choose to root against him without being a total dick.

See why cant we all be that way

by AintNoSunshine on Dec 15, 2010 2:20 PM EST up reply actions

I agree

Varner’s experience, good wrestling and superior stand-up should negate Roller’s elite wrestling.

I expect this to stay standing. Varner should pick him apart.

Agreed that it would be a good platform for people to get to know these guys, but the problem is those that know them the least wouldn't even tune in.

I think there are too many ‘UFC is MMA’ mainstreamers watching that would be like, “I’ve never heard of these guys.” Even in my group of friends that always gets together to watch the PPVs, most couldn’t tell who they are because they never watched Versus and the WEC. I can see this coaching duo in the next run, but many want to get their faces onto a UFC PPV for more recognition before they potentially tank the series’ ratings.

I dunno but Cruz and Faber makes the most sense to me

Aside from draw power. I mean Faber is in Amp’d and K Swiss commercials so he is known enough to casual fans. They both have a reason to fight as mentioned in the article (rematch) and I feel they would be great as far as being coaches and training the TUF guys. I feel this would be a great way to welcome the Bantamweight division and two top WEC fighters to the UFC and the casual MMA fans.

Shit

If this happens, then the UFC wasn’t able to smooth things over for Sonnen as easily as I thought.

This is a bad sign for Chael.

Maybe not. Chael vs Wand never made sense. And who else would Chael coach TUF against.

by AintNoSunshine on Dec 15, 2010 3:13 PM EST up reply actions

This possibly means the UFC and Sonnen

can’t get a 2nd’s license in Nevada

Possibly. You could be right, or like I said it could be just a wrong time scenario where they dont have anyone right now they want to face Chael at the end of TUF.

Good.

A dickhead vs A guy who is hard to understand=not my cup o’ tea.

I like wandy and have much respect for him but he would b terrible for the ultimate fighter because nobody can understands him when he talks we would have to read subtitles the whole time

It wouldn't be any worse than the Nog/Mir season

The problem with Wand is he tends to take some things seriously that he really shouldn't,

I could see Wand walking away from Chael at a weigh in or at a press conference, but having to deal with that guy face to face trash talking for 6 weeks??? Hell no, he wouldn’t put up with it, that’s why I don’t think we’d even get to see that fight in a cage.

How good do you think Fedor's japanese is?

Or Ken Shamrock for that matter?

Probably because the majority of them don't live here.

Hpw many languages do you speak? But I give big props to the guys that attempt it. JDS, for example, speaks broken but pretty good English no matter how bad Open Soares wants to take that mic away.

by BNF on Dec 15, 2010 3:45 PM EST up reply actions

That's impossible - what Toney speaks is not English...

Maybe

The UFC just doesn’t want a guy just coming off a suspension for popping for illegal substances to coach a bunch of young fighters on national television. I’m sure they’d rather give it a few months so the controversy dies down a bit. Get him a fight or two in-between so its not such a distraction for the show/fighters/audience.

chael would of been great

would of gave him something to do while he servers his suspension
