Pierson had the same gameplan against Riddle.

If GSP has a fight on the same night as one of his training partners, there’s a good chance their gonna look similar.

everytime rogan mentioned it was the first time we were getting to see someone use the jab effectively in mma I was thinking that it wasn’t even the first time we saw it in a title match. bj used the jab perfectly against sherk AND rogan was making a huge deal about it then. Also, post fight, when KOS was talking to GSP he intentially put his hand up and blocked his mouth!

Also, last night showed me that KOS is equally as good, if not better a grappler than GSP. KOS would handidly beat Fitch.

maybe the noise, but i doubt it.

the hand was more so blocking his mouth rather than phoning it into GSP’s ear.

I think he definitely said, good fight, better man, etc. and that all the talk was to hype the fight and make them money.

I would love to see KOS’ face this morning. (im still a KOS fan, but im sure he looks like he has elephantitis).

WHy did not KOS go for more TD’s? He was 1 for 1 (not including the grappling turned attempts) and stuffed the majority of GSP’s attempts, and popped up immediately.

but i know there was some back and forth about 12 guage vs 20 guage and went with whichever was more powerful because my puss freind wanted the weaker one so it wouldnt hurt his shoulder. You'll be glad you went with the 12

good on ya for semi as well. MY favorite is a 12g semi (benelli). You and your friend will be used to it in no time, tho dont be surprised or discouraged if the old shoulder feels like you got ran over the next day. Light loads are nothing, you can do it all day. 00 buckshot and slugs arent very fun, but again you get used to it.

Grab a box of slugs, to try out after your clay shooting is done.

Have you ever shot anything before? i recommend taking a beginners course. Ive taken a few, beginners, advanced, etc. you learn alot and its a hell of a good time.

Just remember, even if you think its 100% unloaded, and you’ve checked to be triply sure, do not point it at anything you don’t want to kill.

Off the top of my head, i can name a handful of people who have accident discharges (and injuries) when they thought the guns were unloaded. People who know what theyr doing and have years of experience. Ive done it once, thought i ejected the last shell out of the shotgun, pointed it at the ground, pulled the trigger and BOOM! , blew a hole in the dirt. After shitting myself, and my ears stopped ringing, i learned a hell of alot (even tho i knew better, and have done it safely for years) and have been so tedious and careful ever since. I got comfortable, i had done it so many times, that i was going thru the motions.
Another is an instructor guy i know, who after 30+ years in the biz now enjoys a nice big scar as a reminder that you can never be too careful.

eye protection and ear protection, always! watch your muzzle. Go to the range and watch, you’ll undoubtedly see someone turn, with gun in hand to talk, fix, move, etc. and the gun is pointing directly at someone/something that is shouldnt be. “sweeping.”

i am uber careful,

i shot a few hand guns and rifles at an indoor range last year, and then last weekend shot a few shotguns at clay targets on some state land and decided that was a lot more fun. I researched the bennilli and wanted the super black eagle but it was $1400 new and i got this one used for $400 with a free case.

I would enjoy a beginners class so i’ll look into that. How ofter do you clean and oil your guns when they arnt being used? I understand to clean it after each time i use it but keep getting different answers on how often to clean if it is being stored.

everyone does it different. You will honestly get a million different answers.

there are guys that will only clean every 6 months even if used regularly. Im not that way.

Clean after every outting (do you have a cleaning kit?). If NOT being used, you dont have much to worry about. Mine are in a safe with a cheap dehumidifier. If not used, take out and put a light coat of oil (RemOIl) every 6-8 months and you are more then fine. Watch for any signs of rust.

Will you be using for home protection? Make sure, you read up on your state laws!!

Federal Offense

They will do the checking, so whichever you falsified, better hope, they cannot determine (ie are you a felon, etc.).

What would happen? Who knows how far they would take it. Could make it nothing, could make it something.

You said your buddy was with you, and that he was debating “what he wanted,” Obviously do not divulge on here, but if you falsy answered the question of whether or not you are buying the firearm for someone else (normally there would be a reason why that person couldnt buy it), that would be bad…..very bad.

In fact, about two years ago, a buddies cousin wanted to get a few (3) firearms thru a friend of mine who is anFFL (sells guns), but didnt divulge that he was a felon, and tried getting his girlfriend to buy for him. It was found out, or let out rather, before transaction, luckily saving both from alot of heartache and trouble.

True

but it does vary from state to state. For example, in Alaska the state constitution states that a “convicted felon must not posess a firearm capable of being concealed on its person”. I guess rifles and shotguns will fly. Besides, states like AK and Arizona have very loose gun show laws.

I dont think he was close for 1 for 1. he attempted to take GSP more then once before he actually took him down. They may have stayed locked up, but there was at least 3 takedown attempts there.

Also I don’t think GSP wanted to really score the takedowns when he went for them later in the fight. I believe they were more to keep KOS guessing and off his game.

I honestly don't know that Ko's would handidly beat Fitch....

Fitch is a tough grappler and now that he knows he can be beat by GSP in wrestling Im sure Fitch wrestling will cancel out most of GSP’s wrestling this 2nd time around

Fitch is not a good a wrestler as Ko’s but he’s been training with him and can probably stuff most of Ko’s takedown or stand back up without significant damage…

Fitch will suffer greatly in the standup tho’…. he just doesnt have the athletisim of GSP

…BJ Penn says he was walking unconscious after the 2nd round of his destruction, and Kos has one side of his face caved in with a jab. I don’t care if there were 100 of them- GSP has some weight in those fists.

People will gripe about him not finishing fights, but it’s pretty rare for someone he faces to walk out looking like they haven’t been run over by a train (Hardy was an exception)….

He can win a fight with a jab now. What happens when he starts lighting people up with three punch combinations?

According to fight metric

GSP got 4 takedowns in 9 attempts, while kos had 1 in 4. The debate on the better wrestler should die with these facts.

Also, the myth that he’s afraid to stand with people should be dispelled as well. He won this fight mostly with jabs and inside leg kicks.

The amazing thing is that he trained a lot of BJJ for this fight with Machado, Roger Gracie, etc. While he didn’t use it, it doesn’t mean he can’t draw upon these skills in future fights. I don’t see how anybody could put money on Shields after last night.

GSP is a one of a kind athlete and it’s an absolute pleasure to watch him compete – and dominate – every single time, regardless of a finish or not. GSP owes nothing to those who complain about his incredibly dominant victory just because someone didn’t fold under his prowess. He makes top fighters look like amateurs. Hate all you want, but I find it beautiful to witness.

by Rob556 on Dec 12, 2010 6:24 PM EST reply actions

those td attempts

were from when the were already grappling.

Flat out, change levels and shoot, KOS did once, and drove thru succesfully, GSP was quite unsuccessful, and gained absolutely nothing from them, KOS was up by the time his ass hit the mat. Had KOS not stuck to his word and made it a grapple/wrestling match, his chances would have been much better

Ill keep track myself.

No

Kos struggled and got a gradual double leg from against the cage at the end of the first round. GSP was the one who shot under his punches and took him directly down, a few times at that. What happened on the ground isn’t my point. Just talking about pure TDs.

1st of all wrestling is a 6 minute explosive match…. Ko’s would win by several points in a wrestling match

I think GSP's gameplan last night was fantastic

going for the TD like 30 seconds in was great. It didnt matter that Kos got back up, it immediately put the threat of a TD in Kos’ head. So while Kos is thinking about the TD, Georges was able to break that face of his.

and Boom goes the dynamite.

by Newfie3 on Dec 12, 2010 7:14 PM EST reply actions

I'm amazed by GSP's layers...

Not only does he have the best overall package of skills and weapons in MMA (he might not be the best at any one discipline, but the way he puts it all together is incomparable), but his tactics are unbelievable as well.

I think what gets GSP hated is that he dominates not only in terms of skill and execution, but in strategy too. I think you hit the nail on the head about the TD, or the mere possibility of a TD, being a major concern for Kos in this fight, and whether or not he’d make use of his considerable talent in that regard.

If you’re Kos, even if you are the better wrestler, are you better at what makes TD’s worth it- GNP, BJJ? He knew he wasn’t, and that meant why bother with it- any TDs would be empty points, if at all, B/C you have to figure that GSP is good enough to take some off you too- AND, why run the risk of a reversal and leave yourself open to serious offense in a position that’s really tough to defend?

That means keep it standing and hope to land the one strike you do have that makes people worry at the right moment, except that GSP is so elusive and tough to hit because of his movement, creating angles, and you eat a steady diet of crushing jabs waiting for your shot.

GSP and his camp think about tactics on that level, and it shows in how he fights. He leaves the other guy with so few options to beat him and maximizes the way he can take the fight and leave no doubt. It’s impressive.

by Paulska on Dec 12, 2010 9:57 PM EST up reply actions

No, the reason he gets hated is because he is not finishing people. You have to go back almost three years for hist last genuine finish.

Well...

…his exquisite application of strategy to deliver no doubt 5 round decisions is a factor in what people perceive to be a failure to finish.

He’s prepared to finish people, but he’s not going to leave an obvious hole open to do it like Koscheck does, or even Condit, who I am amazed isn’t unconscious from some of the shots he eats on the way in to deliver his own knockout blows. If it’s there, he’ll take it- if it’s not, he’ll destroy you for 25 minutes using tactics that completely render anything you do well completely moot.

What I mean is that because he’s a tactician rather than a barnburner, people mistake that for being passive when it’s a use of strategy that blows everyone else in MMA out of the water in terms of gameplanning.

See GSP’s remarks about taxing BJ’s shoulders in the clinch in the first round to create lactic acid build up to minimize the impact of his boxing. BJ’s striking lacked pop and precision after that round, and GSP ate him alive standing up.

I think it’s a really interesting facet of the sport- Machida’s style looked like it might be the silver bullet, but he ran into someone who had the goods to negate it. GSP’s style isn’t static or defineable, and when you add to the equation that his strategy never stays the same, it makes him so difficult to beat.

I hear your point- I just think that many people don’t see the decisions as the result of master tactics rather than passivity or failure to finish.

Dana letting his inner Vince McMahon out shows the flaw in him, not the sport. Anderson won, but didn’t fight – he danced for 15 minutes. Mir vs Cro Cop should have the ref in trouble for not stopping the stalemate more often.

There is a huge difference between not finishing, and not fighting.
