Sean Pierson beats the snot out of Matt Riddle in their welterweight slugfest at UFC 124.
Although Georges St. Pierre vs Josh Koscheck won the illustrious "Fight of the Night" honors (thanks to the fans), company President Dana White commented at the post-fight press conference that this was the bout he would have given the award to had it been up to him.

I really don’t understand why this “should” have been fight of the night. Riddle landed what 1% of his strikes and Pierson gassed after the 1st round. It made us laugh more than anything else.
Me too.
I also let out a few chuckles as Riddle just walked forward trhowing the same “combo” over and over and over………….

Agreed
But it was entertaining nonetheless.

Dana is a full on idiot if he thinks this fight deserved FOTN. Alves’ fight was much better,.

yup
Riddle is a joke (see?).
And I dont know what Rogan was talkin bout when he said Riddle won the 2nd round. The judges actually got this one right 30-27 all around.
Rogan and Goldie give too much credit to late position control and takedowns. When your watchin the fight, if a guy gets a takedown with 30 seconds to go and starts throwin crazy hammerfists after losing the round for 4 and a half minutes they say “he may have stole that round”. Or usually Goldie likes to hype the 3rd round by sayin…“one can argue the first round went to fighter A and round 2 went to fighter B…THIS IS THE FINAL DECIDING ROUND!!” – I fuckin hate that.

When Goldie says that I went to fly out to Vegas and punch him in the face.

FOTN
Although the technique and conditioning in this fight weren’t the best you’ve ever seen,to me, fight of the night is awarded to two guys that show heart, when you can see how bad both guys want to win, no matter how lackluster their skill set may be. I thought this should have been awarded fight of the night despite the power punches, crisp strikes, technique shown in the Alves-Howard fight. I really enjoy the fight 100x more when the warrior spirit comes out and the never say die or quit attitude is there.
The Riddler
Within the first minute of the Riddle fight I thought “oh $hit this guy don’t know what the f**k he’s doing,” and of course he gets killed, only able throw air strikes. I thought FON belonged to GSP/Kos because I was CERTAIN Kos would explode at any moment out of sheer desperation and rage, but of course he never did. Dick!
you give GSP-Kos FOTN because you thought something was gonna happen, but didnt?
Using no way as way, having no limitation as limitation.
hahaha
Well there’s is the problem Alves Howard definitely was FOTN it was the most competitive. You base your opinion of FOTN after the fight but not on what you expect
Edson Barboza and Charles Oliveira are gonna stir up the pot at 155!

Absolutley ridiculous performance from Riddle
His stand was easily the worst Ive ever seen. How many people punch thin air continually whilst getting tagged all the time? Never the FOTN in a million years.

Seriously
I guess we should thank the internet for not dumping cash on that joke of a ‘fighter’ Riddle.

Either he's in it just for the money,
and he knows getting hit swinging in the air would give him FOTN and extra cash (if it wasn’t up to the internet), or he is doing drugs.
Maybe he took some Haitian shit from that cabdriver. “I told you it’s hardcore.”
"A lot of times, you beat a person who beat a person who can beat you. I mean, it doesn’t make any sense." – Joe Rogan
Oh Em Geeeee, like realllly? Fight of the niiiight?
anyways, that’s retarded. Riddle looked like an idiot, clearly walking forward going ‘left, right, left, right, left, right’ and being about a foot short with EVERY punch, none of them landing, and literally no technique. He was STRICTLY throwing them with no intent of landiong them, knowing damn well they weren’t landing, just to look like he had heart, and was hanging in there.
SO HAPPY the judges weren’t fooled and unanimously shit on Riddle saying “Get it together, we’re not awarding you a single round for that ridiculous attempt”.
FOTN? Ha ha
