"Killa B" Ben Saunders had his first post-UFC fight last night (Nov. 6) with World Extreme Fighting in Kissimmee, Florida, a submission (strikes) victory over Elijah Harshbarger (via Sherdog).

After the win, Saunders had this to say, from his Twitter: "Won by 1st round tapout due to strikes!!! @UFC what's up! Bring me back baby!"

Sure

After his match against Fitch, why would they? Don’t get me wrong, I like Ben but he is a few years away from being any kind of threat.

Ben let go to early IMO..

StrikeForce would be smart to pick up Sanders.

This attitude

that a fighter who can’t make it all the way to a belt holds no value is just silly IMO.
Just because Ben hasn’t shown to be a world beater dosen’t mean he shouldn’t be in the UFC. He’s alot of fun to watch, and he seems to be improving steadily. Plus he’s quite young, who knows how much he might improve?
Yes he lost to Fitch BUT SO HAS EVERYONE NOT NAMED GSP! (and Mike Pyle, and Wilson Gouveia)

He asked for the fight

And justly showed how little talent he had against anyone with a ground game. I agree, he was let go too early…..put him in against Hardy as that would be a good fight.

I saw it as him being a good company man

and stepping up when Fitch’s opponent backed out last min.

exciting Fighter

Bring him back.. He will never be champion but there are some fun fights he could do.

That K.O of Davis was nasty, he has pretty solid clinch striking.

by RayRayJr on Nov 7, 2010 7:50 PM EST via mobile reply actions

No kidding..

plus Davis is still in the UFC after a couple loses recently.

An injured Anderson Silva managed to finish a cheating Sonnen who failed his drug test but GSP can't finish a natural WW who isn't a dinosaur and won't take a fight at an above weight class. Let's not kid ourselves about who the real P4P king is!

Bring him back

I dont know why they let him go in the first place. Sure it was 2 losses in a row but people normally get dropped after 3 in a row PLUS he stepped up for them with the fitch fight. Just shows how the fighters are just a item to the UFC

by enjoimike49 on Nov 7, 2010 7:53 PM EST reply actions

I was surprised UFC let him go.

Saunders was brought up about 3-4 fights to early… StrikeForce would be wise to get him into a contract.

by THORAZINE on Nov 8, 2010 2:23 AM EST up reply actions

The fitch fight

Saunders took the Fitch fight at very short notice.
Fitch is one of the best ground guys in any weight division in MMA.
It was naive of Saunders to take that fight at short notice. But he is one heck of a stand up fighter.

i woulda done it if i was him

No shame in losing to fitch but if he somehow won it woulda garnered him a bunch of attention and put him right in the title mix…he stepped up for the ufc..they shoulda give him one more fight..even if just for stepping up..but there’s no loyalty to employees in any workforce these days…everybody is a number

^^^ TRUTH

Seems like even my company is only worried about their bottom line now a days. At one time, I didn’t have a vehicle, they gave me a company truck & a cell phone and my position requires no driving. Guarantee that’ll never happen again.

Might need a win over someone a bit better than Elijah Arsebarger...

…but he was fun to watch. Big ol’ goofy grin on his face the whole time.

i wish the UFC whould bring him back, there is too much wrestler in the WW division, we need some variety..
GSP – now a wrestler
Fitch – wrestler
Koscheck – wrestler
Shields – wrestler
Ellenburger – wrestler
Hughes – wrestler
Story – wrestler
Foster – wrestler
Hendricks – wrestler
Howard – wrestler
Pierce – wrestler
ETC, ETC, et. al
over 50% of the WW are wrestlers..

guys i appreciate wrestling and all kinds of grappling, all im saying is that i want to see some more diversity inside the octagon, and give GSP a different look perse..
i would really like a jodokan or a sambo based fighter go up the ranks..
maybe a kung fu fighter ala ehsan shafiq..

captain obvious

where have you been for all the recent long discussions about how the UFC rules and scoring systems blatantly favor wrestling and therefore the home-grown US fighter base?

by George75 on Nov 7, 2010 11:51 PM EST up reply actions

Just because john howard wrestled in college doesnt mean thats the way he fights... Howard is an exiting striker

Just because they can wrestle doesn’t mean that’s all they do… Foster, ellenberger, story, pierce are all young exiting guys, with a lot of room to improve

Detect ur wrestler hater? GSP-now a wrestler?

Grappling whether offense or defense…has always been the #1 Art of MMA. GSP is far from a wrestler… even now…. who has outstruck GSP?… newbies or casual fans always want to see GSP wing for the fences… he’s not Forrest Griffith or (Get the hell beat out of u on bottom) Anderson Silva… he’s simply the best MMArtist in the world #1 lb for lb. IMO.

Ben still got taken down in the fight, he has some work to do just yet.

by HeroCasey on Nov 7, 2010 10:50 PM EST reply actions

I agree...

…with the general sentiment in this thread. Killa B was smoked from the hive too soon. Not only did the guy put on some impressive striking displays in his wins (sure – needs to work on his ground game), but the kid had a great attitude also. He would take on any challenge put in front of him and grin the whole time. Guy has absolutely no ego and a ton of personality. A model employee. 4-3 isn’t impressive by any means, but take away the short notice Fitch fight and the guy is 4-2, which is pretty good. UFC made a bad decision in my opinion.
