Todd Duffee has turned down offers from both Bellator and Strikeforce, according to Josh Gross. Apparently, he was offered a fight with Antonio Silva at the upcoming "Henderson vs Babalu" event and decided not to take it.

That is so stupid if it's true...
so he’s not in the UFC anymore but Big Foot would have been the biggest name he’s faced. It’s not like he beat any top UFC guys yet so what a dumb move…. if it’s true.
An injured Anderson Silva managed to finish a roided Chael Sonnen but GSP can't finish a natural WW who isn't an MMA dinosaur and won't take a fight at an above weight class. Let's not kid ourselves about who the P4P best is!
Ooops...
didn’t realise the fight was this close… still think it couldn’t hurt. Look at the respect Brills got for fighting Lil Nog.

Do You Know Why BE and Mania Posters Rarely Get Along?
Because of the same “smug” attitude messages like this carry. There are alot of great posters on both sites unfortunately we both fail to realize that we are just different type of fans. The guys at BE take things more serious then we do here at Mania. We like to have more fun, definately more free to say whatever we want without restriction and that is just the way it is.
So understand when you come here we aren’t going to be like BE where it seems you usually post at. But still there is no reason to come here and make comments like this because we are going to feel belittled thus prompting us to stray from MMA and instead argue over nonsense.
by AintNoSunshine on Dec 1, 2010 11:49 AM EST up reply actions
Agree to an extent.
BE is concerned with sources and being right. I saw it in the editors, the mods and the regulars at BE. What is lost in this is that the sources that Mr. Treese is talking about are filled with conjesture and suppositions. It is rumored that Duffee is fighting in January for a smaller org. There have been no announcements from Cox (who really is a good manager and would announce this if it was fact), so it is speculation.
I outlined the pros and the cons below, and it seems to me that Duffee only wants fights he can win. He (or Cox, who has a boxing background) is trying to fight easy fights because he likes to win or he has no confidence after being laid out.

"I love Diego Sanchez at 170." - Dana White after Diego's victory over Paulo Thiago
Gotta love a president that sticks to his guns...
But his point is still valid.
Brillz was impressive and arguably should have earned the decision in that fight. Had he gotten submitted or knocked out in the first round no one would have been impressed that he took the fight on short notice.

What I'd like to know is...
Was he offered the Silva fight before Valentijn was?
If he was the first replacement option before Kyle, I can understand him turning it down. Silva’s strong as a bull, has a good ground game, and has really improved his boxing.
If he WAS the first choice to fight Bigfoot, he blew a hell of an opportunity.
Anderson Silva will fall via brutal Republican dry-humping.

Smart move if it was as a late replacement. He needs to build up his rep and stepping in late like that against a guy that would likely beat him won’t really help. I think he’d have a shot if he had a full camp against Silva, but he isn’t seasoned enough to step in so late against a mid-top tier opponent. He isn’t against Herschel Walker’s opponent remember.
Duffee would have been a fool to take this fight
Duffee gets cracked by Bigfoot in absolutely any scenario, full camp or not.
Silva is no joke, only the 4 best HWs in the UFC and the 4 best in SF would likely beat him in any event, and only perhaps JDS, Cain, Overeem and Fedor would have a good chance at beating him without a proper camp to prepare for him.

Then why did he turn down Bellator?
Either he’s an idiot for turning down both organizations or he just has a terrible manager.
why would he sign with Bellator?
They have a bad reputation (look at the Dave Herman situation), restrictive contracts, no TV deal, are losing money with each event they put on and don’t have a deep HW roster.
@TylerTreese on twitter
If Duffee Wants to Re Unite With The UFC
Then its smart to avoid Bellator and Strikeforce. However, with the cuts being more frequent in the UFC and the fighters from the WEC merging over I think Duffee should have joined Bellator for their second HW tourney so long as they secure a TV deal.
But then of course maybe he will be happy smashing guys at the regional level

I AM SOMETIMES BIASED - Get over it!!!!!!!
He got kicked out of the UFC for having a bad attitude,
then he turns down the next two big name orgs??? He clearly isnt a fighter that wants to fight.
@Ulf Murphy: lose badly and not get a fight that he thinks is worth it to him? I honestly believe that he is not a position to be telling people whats up and picking his own fights. This guy is new, he lost to a deluxe king can, gets booted and now doesnt want to fight anywere else. He should take a fight on short notice just to get into another org, he clearly doesnt want to fight!
You hit my point, if I wasn't clear
He believes his worth to be greater than risking a loss to Bigfoot (goes back to your bad attitude point). There is no other reason for him to turn down this fight. Unless he believes he would get his ass handed to him.
Kos fought Alves on 14 days notice. Now he is fighting for the title.

I'm not sure what the "reward"
of being on the wrong end of a completely one-sided fight would be, but IIRC Dana said that Duffee could get back in the UFC by fighting in “smaller leagues” or similar. Surely Duffee is well aware that Dana does not seem to look at all favorably on those who go to Strikeforce after being cut.
This is why “in the know” guys who want to get back to the UFC (like Jardine) take fights with smaller regional promotions.
Having said that, neither SF nor Bellator seem to be able to keep even their existing guys busy with fights, even though SF’s HW division easily rivals the UFC’s – if they could just figure out how to get the guys to fight.

Sure, upsets happen all the time, but do you even really follow MMA. By that I mean have followed MMA closely for any length of time – and I don’t just mean the UFC? If you had, then you would know that Duffee is not remotely on Bigfoot’s level at this point in his career and that this would be a stupid fight for him to take.
Jon Jones, a far more capable fighter than Duffee, said he would have declined to fight Lil Nog on short notice had the fight actually been offered to him as was rumored at the time.
Moreover, comparing the issue of “upsets” in other sports to MMA is an auto fail when Duffee could really set his career back by receiving a one-sided beat down. Him taking this fight would have just provided more proof of his poor judgement.
As for the HW division comparison, the mix of Fedor, Overeem, Werdum and Barnett is the equal of Cain, JDS, Brock and Carwin – although I consider Cain the best of the lot right now.

OK:
“Sure, upsets happen all the time, but do you even really follow MMA. By that I mean have followed MMA closely for any length of time – and I don’t just mean the UFC? If you had, then you would know that Duffee is not remotely on Bigfoot’s level at this point in his career and that this would be a stupid fight for him to take.”
You mean like Serra vs. GSP I?
Did anyone think that Serra at that point in his career would be a match for GSP or think that it was a stupid fight to take because he might lose?
Only losers think like that so you and Duffee must have alot in common.
“Jon Jones, a far more capable fighter than Duffee, said he would have declined to fight Lil Nog on short notice had the fight actually been offered to him as was rumored at the time.”
Jones is an accomplished star on the rise with the backing of the UFC.
Duffee is a nobody with zero marketing.
Reward outweighs risk for someone in Duffee’s situation.
Your example is an AUTO FAIL.
“Moreover, comparing the issue of "upsets" in other sports to MMA is an auto fail when Duffee could really set his career back by receiving a one-sided beat down. Him taking this fight would have just provided more proof of his poor judgement.”
You mean losing a fight to a fat can in Russow via KO did not set back his career?
Or getting released by the UFC because of attitude problems did not make it worse?
Is there some advantageous situation that Duffee is in right now as an MMA fighter that can afford him to pass up a decent challenge in BF?
Duffee taking the fight would prove that he is hungry and eager to redeem himself.
Your reasoning is stuck on AUTO FAIL.
Your sigs are a lesson in irony. Thanks for the laugh.
