Additional tickets released for UFC 124 at the Bell Centre on Dec. 11 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Ufc124-sched_medium_medium

What do you get when you book UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre for a main event title fight in his native Canada?

"Tremendous demand," according to the UFC.

As a result, the promotion has released additional tickets for the "St. Pierre vs. Koscheck II" pay-per-view event, which means that some of the Canadian chislers looking to get comped on Saturday night will instead be hunting down scalpers on the corner of Avenue des Canadiens-de-Montréal and Rue de la Montagne.

Or they could just get their UFC 124 tickets at StubHub.com (Note: StubHub often has seats available even if the event is eventually "sold out").

Star-divide

UFC 124: "St. Pierre vs. Koscheck II" will be headlined by welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre taking on fellow The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 12 coach Josh Koscheck. Thiago Alves and John Howard, as well as Stefan Struve and Sean McCorkle, are also expected to hook 'em up.

TUF champions Joe Stevenson and Mac Danzig have also been scheduled to throw down.

MMAmania.com will provide LIVE blow-by-blow, round-by-round coverage of UFC 124, beginning with the pay-per-view telecast at 10 p.m. ET on Dec. 11. In addition, we will deliver up-to-the-minute quick results of all the under card action much earlier on fight night.

well i guess that means that more canadians will watch kos defeat gsp.

just don’t burn down “the house” when it happens. lol.

Why do canadians stick together? The same reason why Chris Horodecki turned his body and face around in his first WEC fight.

This is a load of BS..

This whole thing is very misleading. They didn’t release more tickets due to demand in the sense that the show was sold out. They released more cheap tickets, because the expensive tickets still aren’t selling. I’ve been checking for tickets on a daily basis since pre-sales, and it’s happened like this:

Everything that’s sold up to this point sold within the first 48 hours. Those were: the $600 floor seats, then the tickets ranging from $100-250 sold. But these huge blocks of $250, 400, 500, 600 tickets have been and still are available. Easily thousands of tickets.

So like I said, this “demand” they’re talking about, is demand for reasonably priced tickets. Not tickets, period. The simple fact is, people aren’t willing to spend the money on this card for a couple of reasons: Overall, the card is really weak. I’ll hold out hope that it might be one of those cards we sleep on that turns out incredible…but I’m doubting it here. Another thing that’s really odd is the fact that this is a GSP title defense, in his hometown, and all of these tickets have been available the whole time.

I went to Machida vs Shogun II, and those tickets were gone within 48 hours. All of them. The empty seats on fight night were sold – to scalpers – who couldn’t turn them. Evenko does a good job at stopping scalpers though. I’m from Montreal, and would love to go to this card, but for the current prices, I won’t. I’m also pretty sure we’re gonna watch GSP lay on Koscheck for 5 rounds, so I’d rather not spend all that money on that…

My question is, where are these tickets coming from? Looking them up, I see it’s the whites, greys and blues…The highest seats up. The grey and blues might have some obstructed view. Either way…makes you wonder if they were originally not going to be used at all, or if they were giveaway tickets that are now going towards the demand for cheaper seats.

Point is, all those tickets in the red sections of the Bell Centre ranging from $250 to $600 still haven’t sold, and at this rate, why would they? I’m not meaning to be insulting to the UFC in any way. I’d love to go to any card in Montreal. It’s my favorite city in the world. I’d go for a trip to Dunn’s for some smoked meat in itself if the card were a little more convincing. I don’t know…GSP just doesn’t get me excited anymore.

THINK?

lol…I know I nailed it here. Like I said, I’ve been keeping up on tickets since day 1. We’re all fans here…we all know we wouldn’t pay those prices for that card. With a REALLY solid co-main, sure. But the way this card stands, it’s pretty bad.

And I should note again, I’m born and raised in Montreal (live in Toronto now), and used to be a HUGE GSP fan. The fact that I, of all people, am turning away from Georges, I think, says a lot. My girlfriend couldn’t believe how my feelings towards Georges flipped after the Fitch, Alves, Hardy fights…but you know what? When you’ve got a guy beaten to near death, you need to flip the switch and finish him…GSP doesn’t have that kill switch.

Kos is doing a great job selling the card. People who bought tickets bought them to see Kos eat his own teeth…Those who didn’t buy tickets didn’t buy them because they don’t wanna see another boring GSP decision win.

Wasn't

I was merely stating that I know I’m right because I’m telling the truth. Look it up, you’ll see. The show isn’t sold out. So saying they’re releasing more tickets due to demand is BS.

This is the UFC’s way of trying to make people think this show is in high demand, when in actuality, it’s not. That’s all.

Thanks for your worthless 2 cents though buddeh.

alot of GSP hate here!

GSP has fought the toughest competition in his last 5-6 fights than any other champion in the sport!

he will finish Kos.

but this card just sucks. Fans arent stupid. Sure GSP is the main event, but every other fight besides that is weak! I assume Dana just thought it would sell out by putting GSP on there, and he wouldnt have to use any other good match ups to get his coin.

and Boom goes the dynamite.

by Newfie3 on Nov 24, 2010 11:43 AM EST reply actions

He couldn’t finish Hardy, yet he’s gonna finish Kos? I strongly doubt that…

by dredg_XIX on Nov 24, 2010 11:45 AM EST up reply actions

No, but he’s definitely more of a threat. Kos has pretty good striking. Maybe not as good as Hardy, but it’s enough to make GSP think “takedown” for the whole fight…

On the ground, yes, Kos will fare much better than Hardy did.

So by that logic, if GSP couldn’t finish a lesser skilled ground fighter, what makes you think he’ll be able to finish Kos, who is better than Hardy on the ground? Is he gonna knock Koscheck out? Hells no. Is he going to submit him? Doubtful, since he couldn’t submit Hardy.

So again, how is he going to finish Koscheck? Tell me…

by dredg_XIX on Nov 24, 2010 11:55 AM EST up reply actions

I think he will finish him by TKO rd 2.

set up with the striking. Will knock him down, and GnP his way to a TKO

Kos does not have that good striking. He throws a haymaker right hand, thats about it. Remember the Diego Sanchez fight when Kos was going to show case his stand up? Was absotely brutal. And even in their first fight, GSP got the better of the exchanges. Kos just kept trying that overhand right.

and I also think that Kos will be so worried about a TD that he wont let his hands go. So unless that barnyard right catches him, Kos is no threat to georges on the feet.

and Boom goes the dynamite.

by Newfie3 on Nov 24, 2010 11:59 AM EST up reply actions

Nope, not a Koscheck fan.

I just weigh out every fight and call it like I see it.

GSP hasn’t been able to finish anyone in a while. GSP couldn’t finish Fitch, Alves, or Hardy, and odds are if BJ’s corner hadn’t thrown in the towel, he couldn’t have stopped that fight either…

Like at the end of the 4th round of the BJ fight, GSP punches the cage in frustration that he can’t finish him, as if he had put everything into trying…Really? That was his killer instinct?

Fact is, GSP isn’t gonna score a knockdown with strikes on Koscheck. I’ll bet my savings account on it.

by dredg_XIX on Nov 24, 2010 12:14 PM EST up reply actions

I dunno.

if GSP can score a knockdown with strikes on Alves, than he can do the same to Kos.

I think he would have finished BJ. It didnt have anything to do with the towel being thrown in, but more with the fact that BJ was 2 smacks away from death.

Georges would have easily GnP BJ to a TKO in rd 5.

and Boom goes the dynamite.

by diamondsven on Nov 24, 2010 12:20 PM EST up reply actions

lol I’ll chime in here, because BJ is my favourite fighter…

No, BJ will likely lose to Fitch, similar to how he lost to GSP. And even if BJ wins, GSP has his number. 9 times out of 10, the fight will go down like their second fight.

I love BJ, and have been giving GSP little respect in this thread, but I have to admit, GSP will always win that fight.

by dredg_XIX on Nov 24, 2010 12:24 PM EST up reply actions

I hope so.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love for BJ to win this fight. I was so happy for him when he knocked out Hughes like that…made me wonder where that guy was for the Edgar fights.

It should be pointed out though, that Fitch is a much better striker than Hughes. Although it was a great knockout for BJ, Hughes simply has TERRIBLE hands. Did you see how his hands were when that punch landed? Aweful…

by dredg_XIX on Nov 24, 2010 1:01 PM EST up reply actions

Yes, yes he will.

Fitch is gonna hump BJ right back to LW.

I love tandem cycling. I win whether I'm in front or in back.

by jay. on Nov 24, 2010 3:02 PM EST up reply actions

We can speculate all day, but the fact is GSP didn’t finish that fight, and many other fights that he should have been able to stop.

With all that in place, I don’t see the fight with Koscheck being any different for GSP. I don’t think he’ll be able to finish Koscheck this time out either.

by dredg_XIX on Nov 24, 2010 12:21 PM EST up reply actions

he didnt finish the fight??

are you kidding me? the fight didnt go 5 rds, because of the beatdown georges laid, therefore GEORGES finished the fight

who do you think finished it? Bj’s brother?

and Boom goes the dynamite.

by Newfie3 on Nov 24, 2010 12:35 PM EST up reply actions

Ok, he finished BJ.

Doesn’t change the fact that he hasn’t finished a fight in a while, and he’s facing his toughest opponent in a while.

So by that logic, I’m not expecting him to finish the fight.

What more do you want from me? I’m saying GSP is gonna win. It’s just not gonna be impressive. Mark my words.

Hmmm...

When was the last time Fitch has been finished?

Answer : Only twice in his career – both in 2002.

GSP put a hellacious beating on Fitch. I think its safe to say that Fitch deserves credit in this one.

When was the last time Alves has been finished?

Answer : Via TKO in 2006…to Fitch! One tough SOB beating another tough SOB. Beginning to notice a theme here? I do. Its called quality opponents.

Hardy? I will give you that one. GSP screwed up. He should have given up trying to become a BJJ master and just GnP Hardy until the ref stopped it.

I love BJ but if your corner stops the fight for you and you don’t do anything to protest it then you got finished. Period.

Koscheck falls into the same category as Fitch, Alves and Hardy though. If I had to rank them, I’d only put Fitch ahead of Koscheck…and I’m not even so sure about that.

The only thing I’m really trying to say here is: For the people who are saying “GSP is gonna destroy/kill/knock out Koscheck” I think they’re wrong. I don’t see why, after so many GSP decisions, people think he’s gonna suddenly win this one impressively. It’s just not likely…

And for your towel comment, you never protest anything your corner does. That’s just the way it is. He probably had something to say about it back stage. But you never contradict your corner publicly.

by dredg_XIX on Nov 24, 2010 12:32 PM EST up reply actions

I completely agree with you on the Kos prediction. Kos is quality and will be very difficult to finish (assuming GSP beats him).

Case of getting caught.

Look at what happened when Serra caught GSP.

At least that stoppage was good. Koscheck probably should have been given more time.

You could argue the ref saved him. But there’s also those cases like Rampage vs Wand or Hendo vs Bisping…so I think Koscheck should have been given a chance to see if he’d recover.

are you a Kos fan? Just curious

watched last weeks episode of TUF last night, and I laughed out loud when Kos was criticizing Georges for the Johnson/Leroy right, where Johnson used superior wrestling and control to be win.

“nice strategy coach. that fight sucked” was Kos’ response.

which i find funny because before the Daley fight, Kos openly admitted to watching the GSP/Hardy fight 100 times and used the EXACT strategy against Daley. Kos is where he is for using a strategy similar to Georges’

GSP Will Finish

Granted, the Hardy fight was lame. I thought he would posture up and pound down like he did with Fitch. But, you can’t say Alves, Penn, or Fitch fights were boring. Fitch has never been stopped, but GSP pounded the hell out of him. Same with Alves. George postured up and reinged ground and pound on them like mad. He made Penn quit. Yes, Hardy was a boring fight. I am a huge GSP fan, and I didn’t like that fight. BUT, George said he heard the complaints and he will start to finish people. I don’t think he can finish Koscheck, but I think he will try.
As for all the haters; well, there are always haters. If you base it on the Hardy fight, I will agree. But, if you say the Fitch, Alves, and Penn fights were lay and pray, you didn’t see the fights. Those guys couldn’t see after the pounding they all took. I am flying from Alberta for that fight, so I hope to hell it will be good.
