It's been 2 days since they announced the fitch/penn fight. And still I don't see any upside whatsoever for Fitch. Now lets say he wins. A win over BJ Penn would look good on anybody's resume, but what does it prove as far as Fitch in the ww division. He should win this fight. He's a huge ww and his style does not employ taking chances. The big ? is can BJ stop the td and if not can he submit him off his back?If Fitch wins he's the 2nd best ww in the world who beat an aged BJ who never has been at his best at 170. How would that move him any closer to a title shot?
Now the worst case is that he loses. You're not a fan favorite, you don't have exciting fights, dana doesn't really like you, and you just lost to a lw. It's bj, it's a legend, but you should have won the fight. Who knows? Maybe Fitch wins and dana does the normal ufc hype job to get fans excited for fitch/gsp 2. Or maybe dana cuts him if he loses. How long can you let Fitch beat all your contenders and not be champion. I'm pretty neutral on Fitch as a fighter but I feel bad a little bit. He couldn't turn this fight down but I think it put him in a no win situation. What do you guys think?
