Most controversial decisions in UFC history

There are many more questionable decisions than those listed below. These are just my top 5 most controversial. Please feel free to add your most controversial decision (if not listed in my poll) below in the comments. I have quite a few more, including smaller shows, but I chose to go with these 5 because they are probably the most well known and most controversial. I personally think that Bas Rutten getting the nod (for the UFC Heavyweight title) against Randleman at UFC 20 was the most corrupt and awful decision ever. What do you think was the worst decision in UFC history? Enjoy! I look forward to your thoughts!

the most controversial decision has to be Machida-Shogun I.

Shogun won 4 rounds to 1 and arguably 5-0 the fight wasn’t even close.. the deal in most of your fights listed are that judges awarded the fight to the person holding and being scared to fight since they got busted up so badly.

Disagree Man

I dont know why people said it was a robbery. Robbery is watching Mike Easton and Chase Beebe

Agreed

The only reason I didtn have that up here is the fact that not many people seen it. Just like the Randleman-Rutten fight…anyone that has seen that had to be in disbelief when Rutten got the win. Randlman took him down over and over and over and bloodied and swelled Rutten’s face. The fight was15 min with either 1 or 2 (3) minute overtimes. Rutten was taken down and beat on repeatedly, the fight was on the feet for about 2 minutes of the entire fight. Randleman didnt have a scratch on him while Rutten looked like Shamrock in the first Tito fight. Yet 2 of 3 judges gave it to Bas.

ANS bringing some serious fire.....

That fight i felt queezy afterwards. 4 rounds of backmount and you lose a split decision? It was one of those boxing decisions that makes you just want to stop watching the sport. When the commission has to put out a public statement and go through a pseudo investigation to then pretend like they did their jobs…..you know it was fucking robbery.

and you need to watch more kickboxning.

He clearly outstruck Lyoto and edged him out in aggression, activity, and landed twice as many strikes if not more i can’t remember exactly.

i agree RoB

Machida/Shogun 1 was the biggest. I was completely confident that Shogun would get the win. BJ/Frankie 1 was also another one that I was like, uhhh whaaaaaaaaat?

Out of that list, Sherk/Dunham is the most contro. Maybe just because its still fresh, but I dont see how Sherk won that fight.

Ping vs Hamill I thought was robbery at first, but after I rewatched it I could see how Ping won. It took a bit of effort, but I could definitely see how the judges got to that conclusion. Kinda like how Nate vs Neer was a split. I was like, no way Neer shoulda “won” the fight. After rewatching it, I could see how Neer won 2 of the rounds. You just gotta look closely at those. Regardless though, the time of the fight, I thought Hamil and Nate won.

Couture/Vera I dunno why thats even on here. I had Randy winning 1 and 3. I dunno why everyone thinks Vera won. I’ve watched the fight a few times, and never see Vera winning.

Lawlor/A-Train I’ve only seen once and remember it being close so.

Never seen Bas/Randleman.

You gotta watch Rutten-Randleman......

For the few that have seen this and remember the uproar over the decision know just how horrible that decision was.

If anyone got a link so those that never watched it can see it for the first time, PLESE post here. I bet that it would pass up Bisping/Hamill as teh most contraversial decision EVA!!!!

The worst part was Bas celebrated like he felt he won(although u could see in his face that even he was even shocked, just like Bisping after judghes gave him the W against Hamill.

Bas did his Tinkerbell jumping kicks to each direction of the the arena. He did this with his eyes swollen shut and bloodied and bruised. While Randleman didnt have a scracth om him.

I highly recommend everyoe watching this one!!

That was on my list

But I didnt think it was that bad. I had it 48-47 Shogun, BUT I could see it being the other way around. That fight was pretty close.

by fightfan on Nov 18, 2010 8:13 PM EST reply actions

Did you ever see UFC 20 Bas vs Randleman??

If you think that Sherk won against Dunham…then you would think the judges were paid off in the Randleman decision. Not only did Randleman control the entire fight with takedowns..he did a lot of damage on the ground. while Bas landed a punch and kick here and there in the very brief times it was standing, though no dmage was taken at all.

PLease name a few more UFC fights that were mroe contraversial

by fightfan on Nov 18, 2010 8:25 PM EST up reply actions

I was gonna include Shogun/Machida and Brilz/lil Nog

But I wanted to keep the list at 4 or 5. I just wanted to hear some feedback more than anything

Bisping/Hammil

no question about it for me.

You should add Hendo/Franklin to that list, IMO

I had a list with about 10 fights on them that were, in my opinion, just slightly contraversial

Hendo-Franlkin, Brilz-Lil Nog, Shogun-Machida I were all fights that, if I had to pick I would of chose the opposite as the judges. But all were so close where I cant argue with the decisions. Alll these were decided by 1 round and that round was so hard to call. So I just put the fights that really rubbed me the wrong way on the list. And they are just my opinions. I look forward to reading what everyone else thinks

ever seen Guida/Griffin?

not a robbery but a VERY close, VERY dynamic fight that i thought could (shhould) have gone the either way.

That is on of the best fights of all time!

I thought tyson lost to both Guida and Tavares.

All Tyson did in those fights was sprawl and defend submissions.

Yeah I seen that one

I am an mma nut, lol. That was a great fight. I probably would fo gave it to Guida, but I cant argue with the decision. It was very close and an exciting, action packed fight

In recent memory

clearly Machida – Shogun I for me and amplified because it was a title fight. Loved that the UFC was quick to have a rematch and the Shogun got redemption for a horrible decision. And yes, it was horrible.

Easton-Beebe fight

the Main Event during the Utimate Warrior Challenge card during late 2009 in Virginia, I beleive had to be the worst OR one of the worst decisions ever outside the UFC.

There a a few judges tath have NO business scoring crucial fights….hell, no busines scoring ANY fights whatsoever

by fightfan on Nov 19, 2010 8:17 AM EST reply actions

The Melvin Guillard/Gleison Tibaeu fight

was just another that had many scratching their heads.

The sad thing is that Cecil People is involved in just about every contraversial decision…..and is anything ever done about it?? NOPE. If u were on the boxing commision at anytime then u can be a mma judge scoring crucial fights with absolutely no understanding of BJJ and ground fighting and submissions. And even worse they are no criteria or test they have to pass in order to keep their job, even if they are striclty a boxing guy and know next to nothing about mma.

That is scary
