UFC Quick Quote: Rich Franklin knows he's not going to 'walk through' Forrest Griffin on Feb. 5
But he will be ready for an exciting fight as he tells 411mania.com:
"I'll tell you what, that's what excites me the most about the match-up. Forrest and I are both very tenacious fighters and both of us are very known for our cardio and our willingness to not quit. So I think that is going to make for an exciting fight. I like the match-up. For me, February is a good time for me to come back. Mentally, I'm in a good spot. I'll be ready to go by then. I know I'm going to come on top of my game, but I know its not going to be an easy fight either. So I'm not going to sit here and say anything about how I'm going to walk through Forrest or anything like that because I know it's not going to happen that way."
Finally healed from a broken arm courtesy of Chuck Liddell, Rich Franklin is looking forward to what promises to be a war with fellow light-heavyweight stalwart Forrest Griffin. With both fighters coming off victories, "Ace" sending the "Iceman" to perhaps his final nap in the Octagon and Griffin scraping by a past-his-prime Tito Ortiz, Franklin believes a win over the former Light-Heavyweight Champion will push him into the upper echelon of the division. It's still early but who ya got, Maniacs? Will the 14 month layoff be too much to overcome for Griffin? Is Franklin primed to make a run at 205-pounds? With a matchup like this, do you even care about the divisional ramifications?

I love this matchup
I’ve wanted to see this fight for years. Only bad thing about it is that one of them has to lose, cause I love both these guys. Forrest has a huge size advantage, but Franklin has more finishing power. Should be a great fight.
"Who's da MASTA?!!!"
Forrest does have size but Franklin is prolly stronger.
I got Rich all day in this fight but I too have been wanting to see this one for a long time

I say this fight is a sleeper
Rich has lost his edge and Forrest…..well I can’t think of anything positive to say given his last few outings. This fight would have been exciting 2 years ago……I say sleeper but I could be wrong.

What was wrong with his fight against Tito?
He straight kicked his ass, I know that’s not as impressive as it used to be but at least he dominated him. And Rich got knocked out by Vito and then knocked out Chuck BRUTALLY! I wouldnt say either lost their edge.

dooner i recommend viewing that fight again..
..He didn’t even come close to “straight kicking his ass” by any stretch of the imagination. Fight was as close as it gets. Tito won the first round. Forrest won the third. The second was tight, but I gave it to Tito. I thought it should have been a Tito win, or a draw due to Forrest scoring a potential 10-8 for killing Tito in the 3rd. But ya don’t judge by one round, and how it ended with Forrest killing him til the bell. So the fight was extremely tight to call.
I had tito winning it. Took the 1st & 2nd fairly convincingly to me.

i hope dana keeps tito for a few more fights, strikeforce would love ortiz in their lhw division, and win or lose, tito brings it
the 3rd round wasn't a 10-8 in my book at all.
It was all stand-up and Forrest did not hurt him with a significant combo once, doesn’t matter if Tito didn’t throw anything back. It was a 10-9 and it would have been in both Boxing and Kickboxing which that round 3 was all about.
Tito did infact do the only significant damage in the fight, he busted Forrest’s face up, took him down and elbowed the shit out of him. All Forrest did was get good looks and good positions on Tito but nothing really happened.
Robbie Savage
a draw would've been fine by me. the idiot a-hole who scored it 30-27 to forrest needed a shot through the head.
Robbie Savage
to get a 10-8 you have to hurt the guy and have him out on his feet or knock him down.
otherwise it’s a 10-9.
Robbie Savage
wow, i dont know what fight you guys were watchin
I scored it 29-27 Forrest.
I have no idea how anyone can give that fight to Tito, no way. Even if Tito squeeked by in the 1st 2 rounds, the 3rd round was the definition of a 10-8 round. If they gave out 10-7’s, Id give em that.
Using no way as way, having no limitation as limitation.
it's easy, everyone hates tito, so no one thought it was a bad call
And even if they did, they didn’t want to get told that “tito sucks” in response to defending that bad call anyways.
Find me the last 10-7 round without a point deduction.
If you gave him 10-8 that’s maybe fair. Then its a draw. Tito got rounds one and two. Forrest defs had rd 3.

Tito did nothing in the first
He got one takedown, barely landed anything and lost position quickly. Forrest dominated on the feet for the rest of the round. You could give the second to Tito because of the 2 takedowns and elbows on the ground but again most of the fight was on the feet and Forrest landed a lot more. The third round was as one sided as it gets, Tito did nothing the whole round and that was a clear 10-8 to me. Takedowns and post-fight whining alone aren’t enough to win fights.

i know they dont give out 10-7 rounds
judges are reluctant to give out 10-8 rounds in mma because it means alot in determining the fight – you pretty much lose or draw, since most fights are 3 rds. Boxing is obviously different.
Using no way as way, having no limitation as limitation.
Tito clearly won the first! Very one sided!
The second I gave to him as well. The third, he was hurt or tired and did nothing. But, I think he won! The only round that anything really happened in was the first!

it's "you're" not "your", and i got a lot of ppl agreeing with me
And it’s Tito we’re talking about here. So, that’s practically mission impossible, as like I said, ppl will just say he lost anyways, cause half of em will see the fight they want to cause they hate him, and the other half won’t man up and admit he won it, so its a tall order, and there’s still ppl agreeing with me.

I saw the fight a bit differently.
Forrest was winning the stand up in every round only the first round was close in my opinion, Tito did get the take down and busted him up with that elbow but he only landed a few other good shots and I believe Forrest ended up on top at the end and was raining down shots on Tito. I gave the first to Tito by a hair and the other two rounds to Griffin and I thought they were pretty convincing. I guess I’m in the minority but the one judge that scored the fight 30-27 Griffin wasn’t that far off.

No, he just cried after the TKO stoppage and ran out of the ring.
Our lives change like the weather, but a legend never dies.
It sure looked like he was tapping,
But I like his excuse better, dude was beating the shit out of him and he couldn’t control his arms.

Against Silva or Shad?
He definitely tapped against Shad. Though he just gave a little wave, as to say “I’m done” against Silva. Then came the Run Forrest Run exit. Someone post that gif lol

Jardine and Shad
He did the same stupid flopping motion that was clearly a tap in both fights then denied it.
And Forrest is still the only guy that I’ve ever seen run away and cry twice after losing, even Tito stuck around to hear the Couture verdict.

As far as I'm concerned
Anderson Silva already ended Griffins career.. Andy straight up exposed Forrest.. He made it clear he would rather run than fight. A fighter should never EVER run, thats a bitch move. We don’t run, we fight to the death. I’ve had homies die in fights from fighting to the death, they tried running, I stopped em and made em fight.. Fight to the death

That schmuck baffles me. I can’t figure out whats going on with him/her/it. The posts, the stupid sig… It’s a child or someone with some real problems.
Shogun's knee will explode for the final time when Rashad shoots for the takedown.

"both of us are very known for our cardio and our willingness to not quit".
“our willingness to not quit”? Did Rich watch the fight between Forrest and Silva?
Talk About Two Similar Fighters
This is very evenly matched. Both really tough end well-rounded. This fight should stay on the feet the whole match with a little clinch work. Picking Rich, UD.
Shogun's knee will explode for the final time when Rashad shoots for the takedown.
I'd actually like to see a little ground work to, both guys have great jujitsu games.
I don’t think Forest wants to clinch with Rich that the only place I really see him having a big disadvantage.
Ohh and for any of you who think my assessments are stupid because of the me picking against Okami, you’re right.

Rich will win unless Forrest pulls a miracle…lets b honest Forrest is the most over-rated fighter in the ufc

I disagree
Im a Forrest fan. He has his weaknesses, but he’s tough, strong, very well-rounded, and has great leg kicks. When was the last time you’ve seen Rampage broken down on his feet?
The overrated fighter award goes to Brock.

I'm so sick of the underrated ground game
At least Jardine got cut so I never have to hear Rogan say that about him anymore (or unorthodox striking) but I can guarantee that he’ll say that numerous times in this fight, especially now that Forrest is a black belt.

joe rogan is a moron, he ruined the entire ufc 122 card.
whenever these tuf winners are on he goes completely nuts, talks 99% about how good they are and how their personalities are and nothing about the actual fight that’s happening infront of him. He’s also completely sold on any kind of ridiculous takedown even if the guy neutralises it 100% and gets back up 5 secs later, he called Marquardts takedown the most significant thing in the round when he was getting outstruck for all but 10 secs in the round.
Robbie Savage
kick joe out of his position and get a real expert commentator not a guy who's gonna hype every piece of shit he sees.
Robbie Savage
I think Joe is good.
When he spoke of the takedown I think he was looking at it from the judges’ perspective knowing how much they award points for the takedown.
I like Joe as a commentator for the most part. He knows what he’s talking about and you can tell he’s a huge fan of the sport as much as anyone.
^^THIS^^
He is way off sometimes but what you say is true.

in this case though he was dead wrong.
Okami won a unanimous decision like he should have so nothing significant about that takedown. Joe needs to stop talking about these guys credentials and camps and all sorts of stories and be an expert for the fights, the stories cloud fans judgement and he sounds incredibly biased especially in the Sadollah fight like he had a 10-0 ufc record.
Robbie Savage
amazing matchup
if Rich wins which i think he will he must be considered in the race for the light-heavy title. Will shed his gate keeper status. maybe a fight against Machida.
machida already beat ace
if rich wins, give him winner of bader/jones for title shot
I like this fight
It’s like two of the similar nice guys of the UFC that I didn’t think would end up fighting each other for one reason or another.
I like both guys and it seems like a lot of people write them off for some reason but they’re both still really good exciting fighters.
It seems like a lot of people are taking Rich in this fight but I see Forrest giving him lots of problems as well.
I think it’s a back and forth fight and that we’re in for a split decision!
It might take Rich a little time to adjust to the range of Forest's kicks.
But that’s it I think RIch has better hands and obviously hits harder.
Drink to remember, drink to forget.

This is a great fight that i’ve been looking forward to seeing for a long time, I think Rich has a slight edge because of the long layoff but if this turns out to be a war don’t be surprised to see Forrest pull out another one.

great match up
this is a war. should be a good stand up fight with a few takedowns. I think it will go like the wanderlei fight and be close but Franklin will take it. 14 months is too long away and Rich is probably just slightly better at striking
