UFC Quick Quote: Martin Kampmann says Jake Shields did nothing but 'hug' him at UFC 121
"... I really gave the victory away by trying to finish him with submissions and losing position because of it. It was a stupid mistake on my part and I am very disappointed in myself for such a poor performance. ... There are definitely flaws in the judging criteria but I'm not sure how to fix it. Best way is to not leave it to the judges. ... I don't know yet. Maybe [Dan] Hardy or [Matt] Serra. They are both coming out of losses as well, but really it could be anybody. I don't want to wait too long. I had no injuries after the fight, because [Jake Shields] didn't really do much but hug me. My only sore spot is my knee from hitting him in the head."
UFC welterweight Martin Kampmann talks to Riddum.com about his lackluster effort at UFC 121 against Jake Shields as well as who his next opponent may be. The "Hitman" was pegged to welcome the former Strikeforce middleweight champion to the big show but fell victim to the positional dominance Shields is so famous for. The judges were panned by critics for their evaluation of the fight but Kampmann sees no better alternative. Instead, he's looking forward to potential fights with Dan Hardy or Matt Serra. What do you think, Maniacs? Do you agree with the Dane on his assessment of the fight? Who would you like to see him throw hands with next? Have at it.

I say
There is no better fight or nap timne that a good Hughes-shields fight . If Hughes beats Bj- Throw him Jake why not
Actually I would think it more likely that if Hughes were to lose to Penn and Shields lose to GSP or Koscheck, they could set that fight up. Makes sense.

Personally at this point I have zero interest in seeing Shields fight GSP. Yes, I will give him his credit he beat Kampmann, although highly controversial, a win is ultimately a win.
I would rather see K-man vs Hardy 1000 times more than Shields vs GSP.

i dont think there's any competition for GSP at 170, not one guy.
someone can get lucky and knock him out (and that’s unlikely), but there’s nobody at 170 who can actually beat GSP up. I think Kos has the best chance to knock him out, if he can keep it standing, but even that is highly unlikely.

Indeed
I’d like to see him fight condit tho. I feel the same about Anderson too. If belfort or Okami dont do it, no one can and time to move up

but atleast Silva has some competition at 185
Sonnen took it to Silva for over 4 rds and Belfort has a good chance of taking the belt. Alot of guys are beaten by Silva before they even step into the Octagon,I think the Sonnen fight took a little of the mystique away from Silva and alot of guys are now seeing he’s beatable.

Then you lost to a gameplan we all knew he was going use 3 years ago.
You look like more of a chump now Kampmann.
'Fake' Shields strikes again!
Kampmann may be down on himself for not forcing Shields to stand up more, but he won that fight regardless.

If it were between the 2 opponents...
I d have to say Serra, his ground game is good and he can bang also. Hardy is on his way out. Not a Serra fan just saying who i would choose between both
Some valid points by Martin
but comes off sounding a little like sour grapes. It’s not as though everybody in the building that night didn’t know how Jake Shields was going to fight. And really Martin didn’t fight a smart fight knowing that. He really needed to work harder to keep the fight standing. This is a tall task since shields is the master of getting people down even after failed initial takedown attempts. I think Martin realizes now he didn’t fight his fight and we all know if you leave it to the judges in a close fight…..it’s a crapshoot that you come out on the right side of the decision. Kampmann – Hardy would be good but Martin just lost a close fight whereas Dan got KTFO so almost a step down for Martin.

Lets see Fitch’s last win by anything other than a decision was 3 1/2 years ago against Roan Carneiro…..
He just rides guys for 3 rounds and takes no risks. He does not attempt subs nor aggressively ground n pound. He does double leg takedowns he learned in middle school wrestling puts his ear on there back and holds them. That is why Jake Sheilds is getting a shot because he is slightly less dull because he goes for subs some of the time. My hope is they go to the yellow card system like pride
