So those that know me know that I'm not a KJ Noons fan. Being a huge Nick Diaz fan doesn't usually go hand in hand with being a KJ Noons fan. I had never met the guy, but have to admit thought he had been ducking Nick for all these years. I got a chance to chat with KJ yesterday at the Strikeforce press conference. So I walked up the stairs and KJ was standing there eating some fruit, I simply asked if I could ask a few questions, told him my website and he said sure. I asked how excited he was for this fight, he gave the standard answer: "very." I then told him how nice it was to see everything being done so respectfully this time around and he replied "Hey man, I was respectful the first time around too, I'm saving my energy for the fight." I asked if he's been practicing his jiu jitsu in which he replied "drilling it, drilling it." Finally I asked what the fans can expect on Saturday night, his reply made me respect him more, "Fireworks, this is obviously the fight the fans want to see, look at me, I'm obviously going to be smaller, but I want to fight in fights the fans want me in...fireworks man, expect fireworks."
Maybe I'm growing soft in my old age, but I was very impressed with his attitude, he was very easy to talk to, and even told me a story about one of his buddy's girlfriends or friends thinking he was mean because he was pretending, I didn't follow the whole thing, but that was cool because it was just in normal conversation. I'm not going to sit here and say that I am going to be rooting for KJ Saturday night, but after this fight he may just have a new fan!
