UFC 122: Alexandre 'Cacareco' Ferreira debuts against Vladimir Matyushenko with Jason Brilz injured

1259860734

Chute Boxe-trained fighter Alexandre "Cacareco" Ferreira has signed with the UFC and will fill in for the injured Jason Brilz against Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC 122 on November 13 in Oberhausen, Germany.

Sherdog brought word of the news earlier today.

"Cacareco" stands at just 5'7" making him one of the shorter fighters in the 205-pound division, but brings with him a serious ground game.

Seventeen of his 18 wins have come by way of submission. Ferreira has tapped out his opponent in the first round in seven straight bouts.

Not too shabby.

"The Janitor" was caught on the tracks of the freight train known as Jon Nones his last time out in August.

Prior to the defeat at the hands, and elbows, of "Bones," Vladimir reeled off two straight victories in the UFC against Igor Pokrajac and Eliot Marshall.

Matyushenko has won 11 of his last 13 fights with his only losses coming to Jones and "Lil Nog."

This guys manager has been all over the UG promoting him

Was trying to get him signed by anyone that would take him, and looks like they hit the jackpot w/ the UFC.

At 5’7" and LHW, he kind of reminds me of Palhares.

Yeah. But Paul is a 5’8 185. This cat is 5’7 and 205! I wonder if this dude cuts weight.

I dont see much success against top guys.

Hes too short for LHW, hell even MW. ALL but one of his wins is via sub, and half of his losses are via sub. On the feet, he’ll be outpointed at distance.

Howa bout Snowman for his return to UFC.

About time for Cacareco....

he’s not elite by any means but he deserves a shot at the top. He’s been on a tear and has the same boom or bust game that’s exciting. He either taps you out in the first 30 seconds or it’s a wrap.

Sad on Strikeforce forums there was a thread on this guy they wanted SF to sign him

Clearly SF does not read their own shit to bad now the UFC has him.

He wanted any good org to sigh him. He considered retirement when IFL and Shine went down.

as a brazilian, I can say that Cacareco is an amazing figther...

…and will certainly defeat Vlad.

LHW have a new top contender.

So basically your saying:

If you weren’t Brazillian, Cacero wouldn’t be amazing?

"To be or not to be" is a stupid ass question.

nope

because he’s not. Only uniqueness about him is a he’s a leglocker at LHW which – well don’t exist.

I can hear Marquardt's phone ringing now...

no...

when I said “as a brazilian” I just wanted to put more credibility in my words… considering that Cacareco is not famous in US.

Just because you are of the same nationality does not inherently give you more credibility on the fighter potential. HIs stats do that.

As an American I can say Frankie Edgar will be the lw ever.

Author misspelled Jones.

As for the fighter…. What happened last time we had a short LHW that was supposed to be beast? Reese Andy anyone? LMAO

Good grappler

He’s a regular victim of guys like Marcelo and Jacare on the no-gi circuit. But i’ll be interested to see how he does in the big leagues.

Surely 5"7 and 205 means he’s actually wider than he is tall?! I still can’t get my head round those dimensions! Did he eat a Thiago Alves?

Cacareco

This man is waiting in relative obscurity forever. It’s time to unleash him.

“Cacareco” stands at just 5’7" making him one of the shorter fighters in the 205-pound division

That’s the shortest LHW I’ve ever seen. And the shortest in the UFC by at least 3 inches. He is shorter than Dominick Cruz, who has claimed he could cut down to Flyweight.

by Chromium on Oct 6, 2010 7:29 PM EDT reply actions

Hell, I'm brazilian and don't really know Cacareco

Brazilian MMA is kinda hard to follow because, although some big events get fighters from everywhere (like Jungle Fight), most fighters fight in states among their training camps, so guys in Curitiba’s Chute Boxe will fight in the South, and I live exactly on the other side of the country, lol.
