K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 Final 16, from Olympic Park on Oct. 2 in Seoul Korea, is officially in the books.
And any of that pre-fight hype surrounding Ben Edwards heading into his main event fight against Alistair Overeem was quickly tossed into a dumpster in the nearby Garak Market shortly into the opening stanza.
"Demolition Man" started throwing bombs and never stopped and after two minutes of Edwards getting tooled, the headlining bout was mercifully brought to a close.
Longtime K-1 fixture Semmy Schilt was also victorious, albeit in very different fashion, as "Hightower" squeaked past Hesdy Gerges via split decision. Also taking home the "W" were fellow kickboxing legends "Mighty Mo" Siligia and Peter Aerts as well as former PRIDE star Sergei Kharitonov.
Perhaps the match most people are talking about was the Jerome LeBanner vs. Keijiro Maeda slugfest that initially ended in a draw. Despite a chance to prove he was the better fighter when the bout went into overtime, a disgusted LeBanner decided he'd put in his time and packed his bags, awarding Maeda the DQ win following "Geronimo's" abandonment.
