Dan Hardy: 'I was ready for a good fight and got caught with my hands down'

Mma_hardy_davis_576_medium

Props: Fighters Only

Quoteworthy:

"That’s not the way it was planned. I came in good shape, I was ready for a good fight and I thought I was doing alright. I got caught sleeping, I got caught with my hand down. It’s the way it goes, that’s why it’s a sport. (When asked if he regretted trash talking) No I don’t. I say all those things partly to entertain myself and partly because I mean it. I am coming in planning on winning every fight [but] 2010 wasn’t my year."

Coming off a disappointing knockout loss in front of his hometown fans in London, Dan Hardy says he simply got caught. With about 33 seconds left in the first round, "The Outlaw" and Carlos Condit threw hooks with bad intentions at the same time, the only difference was Carlos landed and Hardy took a nap. With a unanimous decision loss to George St. Pierre and a knockout loss to the "Natural Born Killer," Hardy finds himself in a tough spot in the UFC's welterweight division, going winless (0-2) in 2010. Do you think Hardy can bounce back from losing two straight this year or will 2011 be just as bleak for "The Outlaw?"

The guy who actually made the gif should be eligible then (unless short-bus made it, in which case my apologies).

Let’s not sully the QOTW by allowing other people’s shit to be included. I could post Youtube videos or quote other writers and win? Fuck that shit. Original material only.

Make Fitch/Condit the next #1 contender match to see who gets the nod after Shields. Yeah, Fitch will give him a blanket party, but the guy’s gonna get another shot no matter who you give him. Just let GSP beat the shit out of him one more time and then he never gets a shot again ’till Georges retires or moves up.

by Jeremyjackson on Oct 18, 2010 9:30 PM EDT up reply actions

He doesn't deserve the fight.

It’s a waste of six months for Georges. Until Georges loses, no rematch with Fitch for any reason.

If Fitch is the best option for Georges at any point (he’s not the best option right now) GSP needs to move up.

Hey, if nobody can beat the guy and he’s knocked off all the other contenders, he’s earned the shot.

It’s supposed to be a sport, and in a sport the best athlete with the best resume gets the nod. Much to our collective chagrin, that guy is Fitch unless somebody beats him — and I don’t think anyone but Georges can right now.

by Jeremyjackson on Oct 18, 2010 9:36 PM EDT up reply actions

There is someone that knocked Fitch out of title contention. His name is Georges.

Until Georges starts declining or Fitch does something that makes even one person think “I think he could beat GSP”, he doesn’t deserve another shot.

GSP should be moving up if he has to show everyone he can still beat Fitch.

jay.

by jay. on Oct 18, 2010 9:39 PM EDT up reply actions

That fight was years ago. By your reasoning, Georges should never have gotten a reamatch against Hughes.

Georges shouldn’t be punished because he’s so much better than everyone else right now. If Fitch is the #2 guy, he’s the #2 guy. Fitch can fucking move up if he wants to. He’s got the frame for it.

No, JJ, you little fuck. My reasoning does not mean Georges shouldn't have gotten a rematch with Hughes. Read this part of my post. GSP did prove it, Fitch has not.
Until Georges starts declining or Fitch does something that makes even one person think "I think he could beat GSP", he doesn’t deserve another shot

The two situations are not parallel.

Holy shit that was stupid, Jay. I’m going to slap you around this forum so hard you’re going to envy Adam G by midnight.

Seriously doh.

Your demands for a #1 contender are unattainable. NOBODY has done anything to make themselves look like they could take GSP, but Fitch has done more than anyone else. He has beaten all the top fighters put in front of him with relative ease, including a lot of the guys who recently WERE #1 contenders.

Championship contenders aren’t based on what some random dumbass like yourself thinks, Jay. They’re based on results. Fitch has done everything he can to earn #1 contendership if he beats, say, Condit, and your suggestion that Georges having to vacate the title because of that is not only preposterous, it’s downright retarded.

Oh, you think Fitch is boring so he he shouldn’t get the shot? Too fucking bad. There’s a company that operates on an entertainment-only
perogative you might like, Jay. It’s called the WWE.

{{(calmly replaces gun in holster and strolls out saloon doors past Jay’s smoking corpse}}}

See you guys next week. Heading up to the mountains. Can’t wait for Saturday night. Jay, Puck, PW… don’t do anything stupid when you wake up Sunday morning covered in your own bodily fluids, visions of Brock’s unconscious body dancing through your head.

It’s not worth it.

if Fitch’s only two losses in the UFC belonged to St-Pierre? I’m in no hurry to see Fitch become the welterweight champ. GSP must defeat koscheck again, Shields then Fitch again then move up. Make it super clean.

Fitch..

Is much better on the feet than Jake. Jake wouldn’t be able to take Fitch down, and Shields would just use his so-so, yet superior striking to beat Jake up for a UD.

Agreed Yan. That’s how I see GSP’s next three WW fights going as well. Then test the waters at 185, or go straight to a superfight with Anderson if Anderson hasn’t lost. The only reason I would rush the Spider superfight is that Anderson is fading, no doubt about it.

I disagree, OJ. The Alves that ran through Hughes and Koscheck and got up from GSP’s takedowns was, IMO, the second best WW in the world at the time.

The layoff, the surgery, and bad habits have reduced him to a shadow of his former self. Maybe he needs a new “supplement” prescription. ;-)

When Alves wouldn't cut the half pound even though he had time, you know something was wrong.

The weight cut took a toll on him and he’s getting older it’s time for him to either slim down so he doesn’t have to cut so much weight, or move up to 185.

Definitely

And I don’t get how a guy ends up doing that… Muscle does not equal power (at least not as much as some people might think) and a quality striker like Alves should’ve known that.

i wish hardy would use his body to throw a punch

dont get me wrong he still has power but imagine how much he would have if he used his whole body. their was a big difference in the way carlos threw his punch, if hardy used his whole body to throw that left hook maybe we would have seen a double ko lol

Alves is fighting John Howard though right?

Maybe after they fight they can slug it out.

I’m a Condit fan, so I’m definitely happy with the results. I think Hardy is a solid fighter, yet overrated. I think his title shot came with a little bit of luck. If Kampmann beat Daley, he was getting the title shot. Hardy beat Marcus Davis, and had a solid showing vs Chicken-butt mouth Swick (someone posted that a long time ago, and it cracks me up everytime i hear of Swick) and he got the title shot. I hope the time line is right…

With that said, I hope Koscheck knocks out GSP so we can shake things up in the WW division.

Really depends who he’s faced with next. After dropping 2 in a row, I imagine the UFC might give him someone else coming off a loss. I like his chances if they give him Matt Serra. He’d have a fair shot at the Alves/Howard loser I suppose. If kampmann loses to Shields, Hardy could have a decent shot against him too. The loser of GSP/Kos would expose him on the ground again.
