Mike Pyle: 'John Hathaway never had a chance ... not even for one second'

Pyle-hathway-2_medium

Props: UFC.com

Quoteworthy:

"I just whooped his ass, hands down. He's not the first undefeated kid I handed their first defeat to. You know, everything Hathaway is good at, I'm better. Tonight I was able to prove that and I knew that coming in to this fight that my wrestling was better and my hands were better. From my shorts at the weigh ins, to 'Born in the USA' coming out, I just rubbed it in their face and on top of that I just smashed their number one boy. He never had a chance tonight. Not even one second."

A fired up Mike Pyle has plenty of crow to go around after coming into his UFC 120 fight against John Hathaway as a +350 underdog. "Quicksand" sank the undefeated Brit for all three rounds, claiming a unanimous decision from "The Hitman" and delivering him his first defeat after a string of fourteen straight wins. Did the victory do enough to convince you that Pyle is ready for bigger and better things within the division? Or does he need another solid performance against a tough competitor to make you a believer?

Theres nothing worse than a sore winner.

I had a lot of respect for the way he handled Hathaway but he sounds like a dick here.

With guys like this saying shit like this its no wonder they think us americans are assholes

GO BIG, OR GO HOME!!!

by LOKIE on Oct 17, 2010 10:50 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Its alright

I’m sure the rubbish that comes out of Hardy’s and Bisping’s mouth balances it out lol.

by Perksy on Oct 17, 2010 10:56 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah but I’ve never heard Bisping or Hardy talk shit after the win like this

GO BIG, OR GO HOME!!!

by LOKIE on Oct 17, 2010 11:05 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

I would do the same.

The shit people said about him before this. I would def rub it in everyones face. He totally exposed Hathaway and made every single fan who believes in UFC hype to look like a total fool.

Now I will somewhat the same and laugh at you as if to say I told you so. hahahaha. * points and laughs *

Sadly all that's true

Really thought we’d unearthed a talent there in Hathaway.

Hopefully at 23 he’s gonna learn from this and come back stronger, he deserves to as he’s a nice, respectful lad.

by attakdog on Oct 17, 2010 10:36 AM EDT reply actions

Yeah it was a dominant win for Pyle but he sounds disrespectful in this quote.

Was gutted for Hathaway in this one as well. I’ll be honest I thought he was gonna finish Pyle last night but he just looked way off the pace.

Its been a pretty bad few months for British fighters, our two best prospects have both been handed decisive losses.

by Perksy on Oct 17, 2010 10:47 AM EDT up reply actions

Only Bisping seems to be able to win at the moment

Great display from Pyle though he’s ruining it by acting like such a dick. No need at all to talk like that. As for Hathaway this is a bad defeat for him but I’m hopeful that he will learn from it and come back better.

its only a matter of time before bisping gets his ass handed to him as well

bisping gets manhandled by any of top 4 MW

sonnen
Okami
Belfort
Marquardt

but look at the bright side with all the UK frighters exposed, you dont get a card full of them every time the UFC goes to the UK, you actually get to see some real mma talant

I think everybody was thinking this

I looked like an idiot after I started saying to everybody in the room “this brit is actually really good” and then he was tossed around and pounded for the next 3 rds lol

Exactly that's why i enjoyed the fight so much...

Pyle put on a wrestling seminar in there. Felt like i should have payed him a little extra. He was hitting all kinds of takedowns. After the first blown takedown attempt by Pyle, i just knew there was a big big gap in technical skills and that john only had strenght……..very fun none the less about a fight we were all completely wrong on.

that's how the British are...

They are the most loud mouths when they win ..and one the biggest pre-fight trash talkers! Let the kid Pyle talk as much as he wants
he earned it!

by pugilista2010 on Oct 17, 2010 11:09 AM EDT via mobile reply actions

I'll give you the pre-fight trash talk

But which British fighter has talked shit AFTER the win?

How about

the fact that Bisping talked shit to Hamill acting like he knocked him out, telling him that he should go back to wrestling, when bisping was literally handed the worst decision in MMA.

by Salvation on Oct 17, 2010 11:45 AM EDT up reply actions

Fair enough, I can't remember that though.

I just remember him talking shit to the people who were complaining about the decision.

by Perksy on Oct 17, 2010 11:51 AM EDT up reply actions

or how about during the pre fight video they sjhowed for his fight last night

" aside from bullshit decisons I only have one loss". but that is completly false because a b.s decison is the only reason he beat hammil . hammil vs bisping was much more one sided then wandy /bisping so if he think that wandy fight was bs I wounder what he thinks about the hammil fight

Pyle's 36, he should know better than that

Very poor form to act that cocky after winning. That’s the sort of thing you’d expect from a youngster after getting a big win not someone at Pyle’s age or experience. Even Hardy and Bisping don’t behave like that after winning (Hamill decision aside).

his post fight statements are uncalled for.granted he put on a ground clinic, he shouldnt be yapping his mouth.its not like his opponent was disrespectful ala bisping/hardy, give hathaway a break man..
i hope you lose your next match you dick..you just lost a fan..

Hathaway is one of the most humble and respectful fighters there is.

I don’t like this sort of bullshit, maybe if it was after beating someone like Hardy or something maybe who does talk alot of shit.

I was wondering the same thing

I had already picked Diego to win his next before Hathaway’s fight last night, and now I’m second guessing it.

They need to burn downthe Wolf’s Lair and start over.

Pyle was just pumped from kicking the favorites ass in his home towm. Give him a break…unless he keeps talking shit.

Its a good learning expierence for Hathaway though, Dan Hardy not so much. Pyle does sound like an idiot though

all john needs to do is compare their ufc records at the moment.

and he’ll come out on top. mike beating john don’t mean shit.

Hathaway got exposed last night. The hype train has been derailed.

I personally don’t think Pyle is that good, and he was able to absolutely have his way w/ Hathaway.

HIs next fight will determine his worth. Same thing for Pearson.

Everybody loses. How a fighter grows from that first loss is what can separate champions from guys that become gatekeepers. Both of these young guys have the chance to fulfill the expectations of their countrymen, but they need to go back to the drawing board, hit the gym and develop the skills that they lack. One loss does not make or break their careers, nor does it “expose” them as products of a hype machine (like Dan Hardy was exposed in his last two fights).

They both can become fixtures in the UFC for years to come.

Get the chip off your shoulder and don't start shit that isn't needed.

Most fighters talk a ton of shit, and the UFC marketing machine hypes this stuff to cater to guys like you that want to find fault in the USA, or an American like you, in Britain.

See it for what it is…promoting the fight, nothing more.

he did beat him,

the judges based there decision on popularity that night. Bisping is hated because he wins and he is not American.

My two cents

While he’s a bit harsh, the interview was done literally two minutes after the fight when he got to the locker room. Adrenaline still pumping.

Don’t forget EVERYONE counted him out and he probably took it to heart. Is he handling it the right way? Probably not, but it’s nice to hear a fighter just let it all go sometimes. We have enough guys hugging and high-fiving we need some villains too.

It is not enough to succeed. Others must fail.

He needs another solid win IMO. He looked good against Hathaway, but still got beat down by Ellenberger and Larson.

everybody losses in mma. hathaway, kaufman and dunham. whose next?

I'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. Glory favors the bold. Chance favors the prepared mind. Luck, well i have that too. University of Utah goes to the Pac-12 conference in 2011. I expect them to compete immediately for the conference CG. Brock Lesnar will defeat Cain Velasquez. The most hated and misunderstood person on the MMA blogs.. Utah and Boise take care of business in week one. Don't be surprised if they both go undefeated.
