UFC 120: Don't call him 'Sassangle' -- submissions are 'just natural' to Paul Sass
Would a triangle choke by any other name hurt just as much?
"I don't like the nickname "Sassangle." I don't want a nickname, I don't think. I think it [started] on the Internet. I think (the submission) just came naturally to me. In my first grappling class, I got two triangles off and I only got shown the move by a mate. It just came natural to me in my fights. [Winning in the UFC] was amazing. It was even better because I got the triangle (choke)."
"The Natural," Paul Sass, talks to media at yesterday's UFC 120 post-fight press conference following the promotion's return to the O2 Arena in London. Sass scored "Submission of the Night" for choking out Mark Holst in their preliminary bout, which was the Liverpool native's tenth submission in eleven wins. The breakdown? Eight triangle chokes and two heel hooks. Scary stuff from the undefeated up-and-comer. Anyone else want to see him mix it up on the televised portion of a future UFC card?

I like Sass
Its about time we had someone in Britain who has a credible ground game. He definitely needs to work on his standup though, he looked awful on his feet.
i think the brits are always pretty decent of their back (exceptions hardy and daley)
Its usually the wrestling thats holding their back to break trough to the top of the division

Seen Terry Etim sub many a can on many an undercard.
As soon as he fights anyone near the top 20 he gets thrashed. Hope Sass is different but I’ll believe it when I see it. After hathaways performance last night its gonna be a long time till I start believing we’ve unearthed a genuine talent.
etim thrashed?cmon son
hes lost 2 decs and got subbed coz he gassed out holding his own sub 2 long! brit bashing day today me thinks
"whats the difference if Bruce Springsteen is his shidoshi?"
Etim looked VERY well beaten to me last time I saw him, against a guy who was hardly top of the pile.
That’s three losses already, safe to say he aint gonna be causing joe Silva any headaches in the title picture. Not bashing, just fact.
very well?
he gassed his own arms due to experience, his other losses were competitive decisions to clementi and tibau, experience again.
"whats the difference if Bruce Springsteen is his shidoshi?"
Still he always struggles when he steps up in competition (Stout aside)
Etim has potential but he’s one of those guys who looks like a worldbeater when facing lousy opponents but gets outclassed against anyone decent. It would have been nice to see him face Lauzon, another guy who looks great against inferior opposition and always loses against the top guys, to see whether they are ready to make that leap up in competition (or if they ever will be).
"Stay classy San Diego"
Jon "Bones" Jones, MMAs best young fighter and the next LHW champion
Sass was crap.
If he faces anyone with an uppercut in their punch scheme he’ll get ktfo in 30 secs.
+1 this guy sucks
Put him against anyone who is half decent and he loses everytime….here they go again hyping up another Brit.

some shitty standup
go pull guard against some of the top wrestlers and see what happens 2
The Red Wings will come back stronger
RESTORE THE ROAR 2010 Detroit Lions
That was one thing I noticed as well. Yes, his stand up needs a lot of work, but he really needs to work on takedowns.
He has good subs, but you can’t just pull guard in every fight. If he faces someone with a good top game or ground and pound, then he is basically giving them exactly what they want.
