Anyone else for a 1 week Sig bet? I’m on with Freenow, any other takers?

Did you see that?

First and foremost I want to say wow him on a speed bag is laughable. I really like the new Brock he is nowhere near as cocky as he used to be. Who knew it only took near death to teach the guy some humility. I just see this as Cain’s fight all day on the feet and he has good enough wrestling to stuff Brock. I will even go so far to say he can take Brock down and if that happens its over. I like Brock better than Cain mind you. I am just over the Brown Pride crap and acting like he is fighting for his people. I like Brock because he is real what you see is what you get. He is no Tito Ortiz he did not make excuses over losing to Mir he was just mad that the ref Maz didn’t stop it sooner. If Brock had Carwin’s standup I think he could hold the belt as long as he wanted. When your one dimensional it catches up to you and we all know Cain has the cardio to push the pace tire him out and get the take down.

Out of proportion torso with bony ridges atop an elongated cranium: Check.
Inability to adapt to areas where smarter, more advanced mammals thrive (Canada): Check.

Yeah, the Brockosaurus is a dangerous beast, to be sure. I’ll let my T-Mex do the back-riding. I call him Cain.

Too bad neither Velasquez nor Dos Santos will ever get past Lesnar.

I’d love to see either guy beat Brock, but I just don’t see it happening. I think the UFC should have promoted Velasquez vs. Dos Santos from the beginning.

Need all the matchups for Brock that are somewhat deserved that they can get. Its scarce as is.

Took some nasty hits on the ground, but never ate that scary right hand that ended everyone else.

by Johnny WF on Oct 15, 2010 1:50 AM EDT up reply actions

wtf?

catching a punch while you’re on the ground is a lot worse than one standing up… not only do you worry about the force of the punch coming at you, but also the force of smashing the back of your head against the mat.

A punch on the mat often isn’t worse than one on the feet. On the feet you get all the torque etc behind it. Most of your power from a proper punch is derived from your ass muscles (gluts) and lower back. Its transferred all the way through and makes it all the more powerful. Often times strikes on the ground are strictly arm punches. So they come mostly from your arm and a little from your back. But the stand up thud will hurt more in most occasions.

your first reply was a mistake i'm assuming...

and there is one thing that amplifies a punch more that goes down…

gravity

Next victim: Cain Velasquez

by HitokiriX on Oct 15, 2010 9:03 AM EDT up reply actions

You can’t put you’re hips and legs into a punch on the ground either. Gravity? That’s some stupid shit right there. Does gravity sound like it helps you’re punching power more than putting you’re legs and hips into it? Hell to the no

the force and weight behind a punch headed toward the ground with your entire body behind it

is more effectective than you throwing a punch standing up. and you go back and look at those punches again and tell me if you don’t think he was putting his body into it

not it either

if you don’t think there was mad power in those punches when carwin was coming down on brock, then i dont know what to say.

is it easier to break a board that’s right out in front of you or one that’s below you?

by HitokiriX on Oct 15, 2010 11:08 AM EDT up reply actions

I can break a board with a six inch punch man are you kidding me. I didn’t say that they didn’t have power but carwin landing a clean punch standing has more power than the shot he hit brock with on the ground. A board? Come on

GO BIG, OR GO HOME!!!

by LOKIE on Oct 15, 2010 11:26 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

You are not looking at all the factors.

It’s not just that the punch to the grounded opponent is stronger, which I still think it might be, but rather the resistance to the punch that is the big difference.

Standing the head get’s pushed and the movement that the body does backwards absorbs a lot of the power.

When you get hit while your head is on the ground, the head has no where to go except the ground, and ALL the power from the punch is absorbed right into the head.

THUS, downward punches to a grounded opponents are much more devastating.

by doonerthesooner on Oct 15, 2010 10:22 AM EDT up reply actions

I do.

and i can tell you they both suck. but when your head is flat on the mat, if the guy is standing and drops a bomb on you its worse than taking one when you are both standing. if you have him in full guard and he’s on his knees in your guard, the punches on the ground are better than an punch on the feet. If hes mounted or postured up really good in your guard, the strikes on the ground can be a bitch as well, but not as bad as a clean connection while both standing.

right, and if you had only misspelled the word once

Not 3×. And if it weren’t an attempt to call a guy down, and call him a name than I would have let er slide. But when you’re calling someone a name and failing repeatedly at it, it only makes you look “retarted”.

Could not stop?

Carwin stopped him the whole first round and beat him down.
He beat up a fresh Brock Lesnar, and Lesnar subbed a gassed Shane Carwin.
Brock doesn’t like to be hit and does not defend well once he catches a shot to the head.
It’s going to be his downfall.
Carwin>Lesnar in a rematch.

I’m a huge Cain fan, love his work ethic and his cardio and how he is constantly improving. But Brock is my boy. Something about him, I just can’t pinpoint it, but I always, always root for him in his fights, even when he was a heel.

But Brock is gonna be to much for Cain to handle. When I watch Cain train I go “wow, he is really good.” when I watch Brock train I go “GOD DAMN!!!” I feel sorry for Cain.

Take Downs.

How can Cain stop Brock’s take downs? He can’t! Brock will put him to sleep. Yes, if it were a stand up fight, Cain could win.

by rti27 on Oct 15, 2010 5:12 AM EDT reply actions

Yes, if it were a stand up fight, Cain could win.

Not even then would Cain win. Even if it was a K1 fight. Brock is too big and powerful. Dos Santos on the other hand miht give Brock a run for his money in a K1 contest. Regardless, they will both be quickly finished in their MMA fights.

by freenow82 on Oct 15, 2010 9:22 AM EDT up reply actions

Brock would destroy Cain in K1, I stand by that. JDS would be much more interesting.

Cain doesn’t have power, and Brock would just cover up and land bombs once in a while. Even Kongo would kill Cain in K1.

Yes

Kongo would… badly.

JDS would be the best K1 striker followed by Kongo who Cain wouldn't want to be standing with either

Carwin would probably do the best out of the three wrestlers as even with big gloves his power would still be effective.

I gotta agree with Lesnars pick

I think he’s gonna stand a little bit with cain in the first round, make cain feel like he’s got a chance to win and in the second round the bullrush comes and Lesnar caves cain’s head in.
