The Zuffa legal eagles are flying high again, this time swooping down and sinking their talons into the scurvy pirates at livevss.tv.
The UFC owners filed suit last Friday in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas against Daniel Wallace of Selsey, West Sussex, England, for unauthorized live-streaming video of UFC events including UFC 119 on back Sept. 25.

so
how much is zuffa trying to get out of this guy i wonder?
never have any regrets, because at the time, thats all you wanted to do
The lawsuit accuses him of copyright infringement and seeks a court order blocking him from copying, displaying and distributing UFC broadcasts as well as damages of $150,000 per infringement, attorneys fees and legal costs and forfeiture of any revenue derived from the allegedly unauthorized broadcasts.
thanks leerage
sounds like this guy is totally screwed if convicted, i hope not too many people were watching. he might end up like that guy in paris that owes billions and makes 150k a year.
never have any regrets, because at the time, thats all you wanted to do
did he do it for an establishment or was he just streaming it from home?
The bottom line is Chael Sonnen is an insecure individual.. P.S Hey does this shirt make me look fat?
Until people can afford or want to pay $50 (or however much it is) there will always be sites like these. I don’t think they understand that because for every 1 site they take down 5 more will take its place.
No but
if your friend has a Ferrari should you also be allowed to ride in it or drive it? Should you be allowed to go buy a kit car for a fraction of the cost?
Do not. I repeat, do not, go to mma-core.com. I made the mistake of watching a couple UFC 108 bouts on there and I am still trying to get all the viruses of my computer. Ridiculous! You've been warned.

If my friend wants to let me borrow his Ferrari, sure, since he owns it outright, with no strings attached. A kit-car? Sure, it’s called strikeforce.
We fight, get beat, rise and fight again.
LOL good points Deuce!
Anderson Silva is by far the number one P4P king!!! Even when he is losing a fight he still comes back and finishes for the win! GSP dominates the whole fight and still can't finish! LOL
A kit car Ferrari? You fucking retarded man.

Not sure if you are serious?
There are tons of Ferrari kit cars out there. Google is your friend. Most are the vintage cars like the GT250. They have the same look but better performance and handling and a fraction of the cost. Some people buy the real deal, some people build the kit, some people rent a Ferrari for the weekend, some people steal them.

Ferrari 250 GTO
can easily run you millions of dollars if you can find one and had about 300 to 350 horsepower. You can have a kit made that looks just like it and has 500 horsepower and modern handling for well under 50K. Not that hard to believe that modern components can outperform the best that 1964 had to offer is it? Hell a 2011 Mustang GT would run circles around a 64 Ferrari. But you are right. A kit car is not the real deal. But there are many out there that have passed for authentic if not for the serial number.

How long till Mania gets sued?
How many fight videos have been posted on this very site? No live streams mind you, but I highly doubt MMAmania.com has the rights to all the videos I have seen posted on here.

They just show YouTube videos so I presume that it would be the guy who posted the video who'd get sued not Mania

Justin.tv just shows some guy's stream from the PPV he bought.
They were not posting up their own streams. I believe Justin was one of the high profile targets the last go-round. Most “pirate” sites are merely a file sharing platform. Basically Mania has been doing the same thing by sharing a videos they do not own the rights to.

good for zuffa
Tired of hearing all the whiners on here about how weak all the cards are, so their gonna steal em. Well now that theirs risks and if the ppl who stream em for everyone can get in sh*t maybe they’ll have to think twice.
*Get 5-10 friends over at 5$ a head. How hard is that? Drink and have fun.
*Pay the full 59.99
*Go to a bar and pay $5
*Dont watch
^ Lots of options. If you’re such a big fan, I’m sure one of the 3 first ones mentioned shouldn’t be that large of a problem.

tara made some good points below
Honestly though I typically just watch all the fights the next day… almost all of them get posted online and I can watch them for free, this is they way to do it imo. I cant afford a $60 PPV, I dont even think I have 10 friends, let alone 10 that care about mma, and I try and avoid bars as much as possible

lol, no you wont :)
I have friends, theyre just all around the country now, or I dont talk to them much anymore, theyre married or whatever… you know how it is… and I think I have like all of 2 friends that care about MMA and one is a broke college student, and the other has been in Europe for months
by xquisitewretch on Oct 11, 2010 1:08 PM EDT up reply actions
I know how it is. I will throw you an invite brother. I just have no idea where the hell you are, and it is unlikely you are a short drive away. I would invite most maniacs over for any PPV I am having. Bring some beer (or whatever it is you want to eat or drink) and you are all set.
We fight, get beat, rise and fight again.
we aren't that far off from each other
So so Cal, like Diego? Or just kinda So Cal like LA?
We fight, get beat, rise and fight again.
I live in So Cal as well
Last two PPV I could not afford it but hey I went to my buddy’s house and saw it with him, his two brothers, three cousins and family friend. We only paid about 4 bucks each since we all brought some food, beer and other drinks.
I've got something to say; it better to burn in hell than to fade away!!!
Sometimes those points are impossible
*I only know 1 person who watches MMA in real life.
*There is no way on earth I’d pay 45-60$ to watch 5 wrestling matches and 1-2 good fights.
*I don’t drink and I hate being around people that drink.
*I want to watch.
I have to go with illegal streaming.
I don’t think UFC will be able to do anything if the site is based in a country with a weak legal system. They will catch the ones from England or US but never in Russia, China, and others.
So in you’re mind stealing is okay because you can’t afford something you want?

no
I NEVER see this as stealing.
I would never steal an object from someone in real life, in fact I would actually return something like a wallet or a phone if I found one.
But watching movies online and streaming sports (mma and soccer) is the only thing to do. They only other option is to buy the PPV and buy a Channel to watch soccer and Pay for the movies. There is no way I can afford that.
What else? Not watch it? thats retarded, when its right there avialibe for free why wouldn’t I watch it.
Winner
of the “I am entitled to anything I want” award. Just because you don’t see it as stealing doesn’t mean it isn’t stealing. You are in fact stealing an object from someone in real life.
They only other option is to buy the PPV and buy a Channel to watch soccer and Pay for the movies. There is no way I can afford that.
Then guess fucking what- you shouldn’t get to fucking watch it.
What else? Not watch it? thats retarded, when its right there avialibe for free why wouldn’t I watch it.
I hope the last bit of that question gets answered for you one day, by men with badges.

They are certainly contributing to it
Plus, it is more than a little disrespectful to the fighters. I don’t care how the fuck you want to rationalize it. If you are using streams, you are dirty little thieves. Shit will catch up with you one day.
We fight, get beat, rise and fight again.
Funny- I am not the one whining. I am the one ponying up for the PPV, not bitching about not having money to afford it. This is exactly what is wrong with American society these days. All of these mother fuckers who feel entitled to shit. “I don’t have the money but I want to watch”—-Well as my grandfather would have said: Tough fucking shit.
We fight, get beat, rise and fight again.
Hahahaha. I don’t know why that made laugh though

Here’s the thing though. The people who watch illegal streams most likely aren’t going to buy the PPV, anyway.
Also i would like to add that I think the whole model of PPV is really screwing over the fans of the sport. NFL, Tennis, Basketball, baseball, hockey, the list goes on and on. Major sports are on free TV. As much as Dana talks about growing the sport he’s obviously more concerned with growing his bank account by placing such a huge restriction as $56 a month (or more) on fans from getting into the UFC.
Well if MMA had the following that the sports you mentioned and had the crazy multi-dollar tv deal of the nfl they wouldn’t have to hav ppv. You’re probably a guy that bitches about fighters pay too right

US court judgements are not enforceable over here unless certain conditions are met
If he is not present when the case beings Zuffa gets jack in damages and as this suit is seeking multiple damages it is again uninforcable. Zuffa are likely to lose money on this lawsuit
Can't Stop The WEB!!
This will not stop people from streaming live sport events but it may scare a few away. I won’t paly over $100 a mo to watch the UFC even if they are the best of the best.
I agree that it is stealing.
But also eventually the market will demand another model for this. Look at the music industry. It took pirates and file sharing sites like Napster to reshape it to what it is today. People got tired of paying $17 for the one song they wanted on a CD. And then getting told they can’t download the song because that is cutting into a huge corporations’ profits. Meanwhile bands like Offspring are giving their CD’s away via Internet. Then the first company to step up in a big way and support individual song downloads at a reasonable price (Apple) basically now controlls the music industry. What about a stream on your laptop that was medium res for a fraction of the price? The guys that stream are watching a crappy quality version, it’s not like they are getting an HD stream on their big screen. What about a UFC channel or carrying all PPV’s on VS Network? $55 on top of DishNetwork and Internet gets expensive. That does not make it right to go stream it but it wouldn’t hurt for the UFC to give us some options either. And eventually the market will demand it. Because too many people are going to be like, “Dude, seriously, it’s 2010. I’m not paying $60 to watch a PPV when I can stream it for free.” May not be right but it’s the reality. And people who say they watch it the next day are breaking the same copyright laws as those who watch the streams. As I commented above I’m pretty sure Mania doesn’t own the rights to any of the fights it has posted on this site. Watching a fight posted on Mania to which they do not own the rights is the same as watching the stream on Justin.tv when they don’t own the rights. The UFC will never get rid of all the pirates that is true but a more affordable PPV model will increase their PPV sales and eliminate most offenders. Just look how a cheap and easy (and legal) music service like itunes basically put the music pirates out of business. Hell, even Napster went legit. I know people still illegally download music but when you can legally buy the song you want for a buck as opposed to managing torrents the majority will do it the cheap and legal way. The same thing is happening with the movie and TV industries. Netflix and the like are taking over. Any hard format will be obsolete for media. And eventually the $55 PPV will be obsolete as well.

People who use streams are not thieves, you self righteous douches!
If all I have to do is type in a web address and watch something I would otherwise pay $50 for, than why not. I can see spending that money if you are having friends over, but if I am home alone while my 3 year old is sleeping, is it worth it to spend $50 to watch it by myself? The answer is no. And don’t give me that bullshit that I am taking away from fighters paychecks, that argument is lame at best. Only a tiny portion of fighters get PPV percentage, the ones who I know for sure get a percentage are: BJ, GSP, and Brock. If they get 1% of PPV buys than that translates into 55 cents. I can tell you one thing, they sure wont miss pocket change.
And if you don’t get it, $50 is an absolutely outlandish amount to pay for a 3 hour program. Would you pay that for a 3 hour movie? I’ll answer for you again, NO. If anyone is to blame for pirating, it is UFC for making you pay to watch on your own television. I already pay $100 a month for cable and internet, should I have to pay even more for an event like this? No. And it doesn’t mean I am any less a fan than anyone else, less knowledgeable, or less moral. It just means that I have less disposable income, and if you haven’t noticed, the country is in a downward economic spiral, and frivolous spending doesn’t help my position at all.
Dana always says that this is the fastest growing sport in the world! Does anyone pay $50 to watch football games on TV? NO. No one even has to pay a cent to watch the super bowl! Making people pay so much for a sporting event de-legitimatizes the stance of making this sport as well known or as popular as main stream sports. It makes it an expensive hobby. The ultimate fighter program is widely recognized as the platform which launched MMA into the general publics view, and guess what, it was on cable, not PPV. If you want everyday people to passionately follow MMA, put it on an everyday medium for people to view!
