WEC 51: "Aldo vs. Gamburyan" from the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado, is officially in the books, which means that a couple of fighters who busted their asses inside the cage are getting rewarded for it.
The promotion is cutting checks for $10,000 to each fight bonus recipient -- the same as WEC 49 and WEC 50 -- but a far cry from the 65k doled out after the "Aldo vs. Faber" (A.K.A. WEC 48) pay-per-view back in April.
In addition to their base salaries, the WEC awarded lightweight brawlers Donald Cerrone and Jamie Varner "Fight of the Night" for their thrilling, back-and-forth war of attrition that "Cowboy" took via unanimous decision.
Former lightweight and "Ultimate Fighter" George Roop likely prolonged his WEC employment with a vicious head kick, earning "Knockout of the Night" by sending Chan Sung Jung on a weekend cruise with Rip Van Winkle.
It was the first time "The Korean Zombie" has been stopped in his career.
Finally, former WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres got back into the win column after securing "Submission of the Night" against Charlie Valencia. The rear naked choke snapped Torres' two-fight losing streak.
Here are the special fight bonuses for WEC 51:
Fight of the Night — Donald Cerrone vs. Jamie Varner
Knockout of the Night — George Roop
Submission of the Night — Miguel Torres
Again, each fighter received $10,000 extra for their performances in addition to their respective base salaries, which we will pass along as soon as they're made available
