GSP gets it

And I’ll be stunned if I see anything other than Hardy getting beat down for multiple rounds in this fight.

Multiple rounds?

I think you might actually be giving Hardy more credit than he deserves. He won’t see the third round and I’m being very generous. In fact, I’ll be very surprised if he survives the first two minutes.

by Yan117 on Jan 8, 2010 4:34 PM EST up reply actions

Well

GSP isn’t really known for “finishing” fights in the early rounds. He’ll wear em down then put the beatdown. Anyways, I hope we eventually see GSP vs Silva

by T0R0 on Jan 8, 2010 4:49 PM EST up reply actions

Oh

and GSP’s idol is Frank Dux…

by T0R0 on Jan 8, 2010 4:53 PM EST up reply actions

yes, it’s his mentality to stick to his gameplan even if it means avoiding risks. In the Fitch fight he had Fitch hurt badly yet he worked very slowly for position rather than move to a sub or other finish

by quidnunc on Jan 8, 2010 4:55 PM EST up reply actions

are you joking?

gsp had fitch battered in the first round and was doing nothing but trying to finish. IMO the ref could have stopped it then. we have seen ALOT of stoppages in the UFC where the loser wasnt gettin near the beating that fitch was taking. fitch is a monster and very very hard to finish

Theres nothing funner than lettin them hands go

by Newfie3 on Jan 8, 2010 6:17 PM EST up reply actions

agreed

GSP was trying hard to finish in Round 1. But Fitch is tough, and the ref gave him some latitude to defend himself. Correctly as it turned out.

by pancakehead on Jan 9, 2010 12:46 AM EST up reply actions

It would be fun to see GSP dethroned

but will it happen? I dont see Hardy beating him unless he catches him, which is perfectly possible, but Im not a big fan of watching a great fighter get caught by a good fighter. More power to him though if he can pull off the upset.

GSP's Interview's are the worst

I hate his canned answers, sometimes they don’t even make sense, hardy is the most dangerous? he’s beaten all the guys?

hughes is way better at interviews

by Nikolai_ on Jan 8, 2010 4:28 PM EST reply actions

how about you answer questions in a language that you just learned a couple years ago..

yeah he is dull but when he first started out in ufc he could not speak english..

by sarah- on Jan 8, 2010 4:37 PM EST up reply actions

lol i never thought about it that way

…it’s still not fun hearing the same stuff over and over again
but i think it also it has to do with GSP being overly polite

by Nikolai_ on Jan 8, 2010 4:47 PM EST up reply actions

true..

he is safe to a fault..and i can even say that about his fighting..though i am a huge fan..

by sarah- on Jan 8, 2010 5:11 PM EST up reply actions

I don't understand...

GSP’s interviews are the worst??

If you want The Legion of Doom to call out the Hart Family you’re in the wrong sport. This is MMA, a real sport. And GSP is one of the few fighters who keeps it professional. Somethin’ more fighters should strive for. He may not have juicy one-liners, but that’s not why I watch. He has some interesting insight on motivation, which you prolly missed because you weren’t payinig attention. The guys who spit out all the insults are acting so you pay to watch em fight. GSP and few others dont need drama.

by Two_Words on Jan 8, 2010 11:30 PM EST up reply actions

I won't criticize GSP for not being able to cut a promo. I like watching him kick ass, not tell stories.

Frank Mir packed 30+ pounds of solid muscle onto his body in five months. Why hasn't anyone called him out for steroid use? Is it because he never wrestled for Vince McMahon? I give Mir credit for his taste in strippers/wives, not his fighting skills or his personality.

he was more relaxed in this interview

It was one of his better ones actually. Sa ligne de conduite est differente quand il parle francais.
Anyways, bell rings, GSP superman punch , ROADHOUSE.

surprised he didn’t whip out that gem. i love gsp, but he always says the same things in every interview.

by SweetsugarShaw on Jan 8, 2010 4:59 PM EST reply actions

its his english

he ever said he doesnt know how to trash talk in english. and didnt know the word “conduct” i mean come on! like someone up there said, how would u answer questions in a language you just learned?

LOL

Yeah GSP’s interviews are very repetitive but very, very few of the greatest fighters out there are where they are right now because they can working a fucking mic.

I could really care less about interviews and mic checks. I like watching fights not soap operas.

I actually think guys like GSP and Fedor are few and far in between. No Talk, all business.

id rathar here GSP say the say thing over and over....

then have GSP speak, then someone like Ed Soares translate for him. THAT is annoying..not this

by BJPennfan on Jan 8, 2010 6:25 PM EST reply actions

Boring?

GSP is a class act.

The man talks little and kicks ass during the fight…End of story.

by DubNub on Jan 8, 2010 6:26 PM EST reply actions

LOL newfie....agreed

For some reason I don’t like ed soares and would love to see someone punch him in the face, he just has one of those faces you just want to punch. Obviously the main reason gsp is kind of boring and repetitive is the language difference, silva and machida have had plenty of time to learn english….there interviews in english are halarious. I would LOVE to see one of his opponents talk trash to him in french and have them trash talk each other. At least gsp is trying his best to speak the language. I personally find his interviews kind of amusing with his broken english and repetitive answers, differences are the spice.

by nathang on Jan 8, 2010 7:55 PM EST reply actions

Class act indeed

Gsp is very classy and kicks major ass. He has though, in my opinion, become boring. His beatings of matt serra and matt hughes were pretty good but his fights against top compitetion have been boring. His ground game is great when hes on top but i’d like to see him throw a combination here and there. I think he’s becoming way too predictable and i hate to say it, but i can actually see him losing to dan hardy. I know hes better than hardy, but hardy has to be expecting gsp to shoot and if i were hardy i would be training my ass off for that shot. Just like tiago alves did. haha

Really good interview. Did nt mention that above.

Don't worry kids

BJ will be back to take Frenchy down. Then the WW div can get fun again.

by BJPennfan on Jan 8, 2010 8:52 PM EST reply actions

its a game of chess

which no one in the ww division knows how to play, gsp has really cleaned out the division, hardy is the start of a “what do we do with gsp” era for the ufc, and many more will follow. but what gets me is the “potential” superfight between georges and mr silva, georges is so far too small, most middle weights are over 6.00ft and cut from 210 and above to make 185, it is incredible to even think that someone that is 5.10, and walks around at 190-200, could trouble a so talently gifted huge middle weight like silva, please give me reason to doubt this

by freedomthrtyfve on Jan 8, 2010 10:28 PM EST reply actions

gotta agree

Personally I think GSP’s wrestling ability could neutralize Silva, if they were the same size. But Silva is much bigger than GSP. But GSP may be leaving the UFC for a while to join the Canadian Olympic wrestling team. Maybe he can put on some quality muscle. Either way he would need a good time off from competition to become big enough for the MW division. By then Silva will prolly be retired. I’m pretty sure Silva doesnt want to sign for any more fights in the UFC useless they drive a dumptruck full of money to his house.

by Gravol on Jan 9, 2010 12:26 AM EST up reply actions

GSP to small for Silva?

All this talk about GSP not having a chance because he’s way too small for Silva is nonsense. I know that GSP even said it himself but come on. Oh how we forget the old days like at UFC 3 when Royce Gracie at 180 lbs took out 6’3" 240lbs Kimo under 5:00 minutes via classic armbar. I miss those days. You ever turn down a scrap at the bar because you thought the punk across the way was 20 lbs heavier…never! GSP would do very well against Silva…at their current weights.

by mma_dad on Jan 9, 2010 2:27 AM EST up reply actions

The old days...

It’s very different now. GSP is no Gracie and Kimo is no Silva.

But it’s possible…

The only time i’ve seen Anderson Silva in trouble in the UFC was against a wrestler, Travis Lutter. If GSP can get some weight and show that he is the best wrestler in MMA… he can definitly take Silva down and work his position with punches and elbows. He’s the best for this…

by -Jee- on Jan 9, 2010 7:33 AM EST up reply actions

Lutter is not a wrestler

He’s a BJJ black belt.

Ya gotta love this guy!

GSP is a hell of a fighter! And It’s cool as hell that he takes it all in stride! Hardy does have the ability to ko anybody in the division, but, I don’t see him doing it off of his back while getting visciously kneed in the ribs over and over! I say GSP by 2nd rnd Ref stoppage!

by Dana's a Crossdresser on Jan 8, 2010 11:20 PM EST reply actions

Go and watch Raw

Everyone likes a bit of smack talk now and then, for instance to create an interesting fight that nobody cared about before (Hardy-Davis) but I get so pumped before GSP’s fights without any of that just because you know you’re about to watch one of the greats. If you find him boring, dont watch his interviews and stick monday night Raw on! I love the humble guys in this sport. It makes a refreshing change from watching the vulgar, overpaid, douchebag ‘superstars’ in other sports.

by Kenwoo on Jan 9, 2010 6:21 AM EST reply actions

Everyone knows GSP is knocking out Hardy.

He isn’t going to take the easy way out. This fight will be fought on the feet for the most part. He knows when you guys are calling him out for boring wrestling. He is going to make believers out of all you guys who still talk about Serra and GSP’s weak chin.

Frank Mir packed 30+ pounds of solid muscle onto his body in five months. Why hasn't anyone called him out for steroid use? Is it because he never wrestled for Vince McMahon? I give Mir credit for his taste in strippers/wives, not his fighting skills or his personality.
