Meet Dana White, the king of mixed martial arts (Video)

Dwhiteesquire_medium

The UFC president talks about his awesome power, which he can summon at any moment with 150 characters or less:

"Lemme tell you when I started goofing around with Twitter. Lemme fuckin' lay this out for you. I'm in New York City. It's 10:30 on a Monday night in midtown Manhattan. It's raining. And it's a Jewish holiday, okay? As you know, I'm a Pinkberry freak. I like to have my Pinkberry. I have this one store in midtown Manhattan that will stay open for me late. I just have to call and let them know, and after I have dinner, I always go there and eat Pinkberry, right? So this one time I'm like, 'Let's just fuck around here and try something.' I Twitter my people. I say, 'Meet me at Pinkberry in midtown Manhattan. I got tickets to the fight if you guys want to go.' So you've been to New York enough, right? People don't give a fuck about anything in New York. I've never seen a city where people just don't fucking care — Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie can be walking down the street holding hands and people could care less, you know? They take shit in stride. I'm twenty minutes late showing up to Pinkberry. The fucking place is packed. There's people everywhere. I get out of the car and everybody starts cheering and going crazy. I look at the police and I'm like, 'Are you guys mad?' And they're like, 'We didn't believe you were coming.' I get out, I sign autographs, take pictures. We hand out like a zillion tickets. We're there for two hours. "And this is the craziest fucking thing about this whole story: Not only is it Monday night, raining, in midtown Manhattan on a Jewish holiday, I'm giving away tickets to a fight in fucking Los Angeles. I can't believe it either.... I get chills just talking about this."

Check out a video of White and the good ole' boys after the jump.

splayed foot funning

He definitely runs like a fat man. That awkward style he runs indicates that his thighs are to fat to allow his feet to get directly below his hips. I would be shocked if he could even run 1 km lol!

this has to be a joke.

He’s no king anywhere, he’s the owner of some corrupt gambling business called the UFC, everything from Las Vegas is a joke about money. Go Sleep now u fat piece of shit.

sometimes the beauty is in the attempt.

by RoBerto. on Jan 8, 2010 12:56 AM EST up reply actions

lol?

Do you actually really believe that?

He’s the king of mma because he runs the marquee MMA organization. You don’t have to like him or the UFC, but denying it is sort of stupid.

It’s alll about money!
Do you think Dream, Strikeforce and Sengokou are charities?

Shogun lost a close decision! Everyone get crazy!

by ShaiZ on Jan 8, 2010 1:39 AM EST up reply actions

I think MMA is a mess, and Dana is the perfect picture of it.
He’s the “king of MMA” because he runs around in media all the time.

by RoBerto. on Jan 8, 2010 1:52 AM EST up reply actions

Is the media some sort of sprinkler?

Well i see what you mean,
But if Mark Pavelich (President of MFC) tried ‘to run around in the media’, do you think the media would pay any attention? Probably not, because he doesn’t run the UFC.

Like it or not!

The UFC is the premier organization in mma. They have the majority of the premeir fighters for every division between their 2 brands and most fighters aspire to fight for the UFC. I would say that is why he is the king. That is like saying Man U. is not the king of English football or the NY Yankees are not the kings of MLB. All those teams and the UFC have one thing in common: Whether you like them or not they do whatever it takes to always be top tier, the best at what they do, the kings of their respective sport! Dana maybe a foul mouthed, self rightous prick, but he has paved the way for mma by throwing the UFC in everyones face worldwide!

Out of curiosity, what makes Dana and the UFC so messy compared to the other organizations?

by Da Monkey on Jan 8, 2010 9:04 AM EST up reply actions

Man Utd are in decline

Chelsea will win the league this year and it’s a toss up between Barca and Real for the Champions League, without Ronaldo and Tevez they aren’t the force that they once were and they’ve just been knocked out of the cup by Leeds, who are 2 divisions below them. Because of the Glazers they don’t have the money to buy top players anymore like Real, Barca, Chelsea and now Man City. They are still the biggest worldwide team, along with Real and Barca, but they are no longer the best team in the world.

"Anderson Silva is the best fighter on the planet...any Anderson Silva fight that is on, people should be buying that PPV, not because he’s my fighter but you know what, he to me is like the Muhammad Ali of MMA...the UFC has been around since 1993, nobody (else) has 10 consecutive wins in the UFC. Anderson has had 10 fights in the UFC, only 1 has ever gone to a decision."

by David W-S on Jan 8, 2010 9:09 AM EST up reply actions

Dave I actually thought about it before I posted...

I live in Tampa now, you guys must hate the Glazers, because everyone here hates them for what the did to the Bucs. Aren’t the Glazers selling, or at least that is what I heard. The Glazers extended themselves entirely to much when spending a billion dollars to bun MAn U! I was originally speaking of Man U in relation to English PRemier League football, initially. Do you get to go to many matches out there? I want so badly to go to a football game in England. I had plans a few times that fell through, but at some point I need to get to a real match. What is the average ticket cost for a match at MAn U or Chelsea? How hard is it to get tickets for those matches?

by Da Monkey on Jan 8, 2010 9:52 AM EST up reply actions

I'm not a Man Utd fan but I hate foreign owners, especially those that don't even have any money

The Glazers have kept quiet and let Fergie spend money on players when he wanted them but the fact is they took over the richest club in the world and bought them with borrowed money, they are leaches nothing more. People like them are killing football.

It’s very difficult to get tickets to Man Utd and Chelsea league games, both clubs have very expensive tickets and most of their games are sell outs. There’s usually a lot of empty seats for their cup games, especially at Chelsea, but that’s mainly because they put out a weaker line up.

PL games can be very exciting live but it’s very difficult to see the top teams play each other, as few tickets are available because of all of the season ticket holders and the cheap seats are usually snapped up pretty quickly as well. Even my Man Utd supporting friends rarely get to matches and if they do it’s almost always a midweek cup game.

I’m a Newcastle fan and I used to go to a lot of games but since Mike Ashley took over I’ve stopped going, I don’t want to give a disrespectful moron who got my club relegated a penny of my money.

I don’t mean a front push kick(BJ’s kick on Diego) It looked like a front kick like you would kick a football. It definitely wasn’t planned and was lucky to land. In the exchange where he hit Diego with that kick, he was just rushing forward and trying to overwhelm Sanchez. Since Sanchez was always running backwards, I think he’d had enough and wanted to throw a wild flurry. It was an ugly kick and he won’t hit anyone with it ever again.

Frank Mir packed 30+ pounds of solid muscle onto his body in five months. Why hasn't anyone called him out for steroid use? Is it because he never wrestled for Vince McMahon? I give Mir credit for his taste in strippers/wives, not his fighting skills or his personality.

The reason people hate him is he is an ass. He directly affects the fights we can see with his scum bag personality. If it weren’t for the way he treats people we would be watching Fedor vs. Brock(could have). I think people are just sick of listening to the same shit for so long.

um

While I agree Dana is often a dick and needs to work on his PR work, he is not responsible for Fedor not being with the UFC.

M-1 demands a co-promotion for it happen and won’t take that off the table; no one with an ounce of business sense would ever take them up on that offer.

Ask yourself, how does an M-1 co-promotion really help Fedor? It really doesn’t , blame Vadim Finkelstein for being self serving.

Anyone with their own voice incharge of anythings is going to have critisism

And Dana has taken his but in the end has brought MMA to were it is today because who he is something no one else can claim or my belief would of been able to bring MMA to were it is today. It’s easy to hate someone for their flaws and it’s hard for alot of peaple to credit someone with what they believe to be as flaws for doing something as great as Dana has. Just think about it “were would MMA be without Dana or the UFC and would you of done a better job?” I didn’t think so. So keep on hating it’s the easy thing to do.

by Puck Head on Jan 7, 2010 11:55 PM EST up reply actions

Dana has done a lot for the UFC

But his ego and loudmouth are holding the UFC brand back and it’s clear that he’s only interested in the UFC and not the sport of MMA as a whole. He is a superb promoter and has done a great job at promoting fights as well as the UFC and has helped to open the sport to new markets but swearing at reporters for disagreeing with him, bashing the fans and criticising any fighter that doesn’t sign with or leaves the UFC is not the way to do business. He even bashes TV networks and video game companies and always contradicts himself (Kimbo, Tito) so it’s gotten to the point that he is no longer credible and when a promoter loses credibility they lose the power to draw a crowd.

I’m convinced that if he showed more respect to Rampage, Hendo and Fedor then the UFC would have all of the best fighters in the world, instead they seem to be losing quality and not replacing them with other top fighters (other than Gomi who is a legend but past his prime in my opinion) but rather guys aimed to draw ratings (Kimbo) or old has beens (Trigg, Baroni, Hallman, Renzo). That in itself is inexcusable.

All the Dana haters

would never admit to wanting to be Dana….people get frustrated with their own lives and they deal with that by hating, and nothing will ever change that, at least not in our lifetime. I think Dana’s awesome, he cracks me up every time he talks with all the F-Bombs. I tend to talk the same way and I love it. All he’s done is taken the UFC to the top. And to all the haters out there, keep on hating because that’s the kind of buzz he is trying to generate. It’s all part of promoting. Dana has a reason for everything he does, and sometime it calls for being a prick. If i were him, i wouldn’t change a thing. The UFC is the Gold Standard of MMA, and it’s only getting bigger and bigger.

by kinghaze on Jan 7, 2010 7:58 PM EST up reply actions

More time

Vitor needs more time to reach Anderson level. He has talent and is very good but has not had fights against current top tier guys. I hate when the UFC pushes a fighter too fast. Just set them up to fail.

by CdnFan on Jan 7, 2010 8:24 PM EST up reply actions

Dream fight

2 of my all time favourites, if anyone ever beats Andy it’ll be Vitor, he’s as ready now as he’ll ever be. Talent has never been a question for the Phenom but now he’s also got the training and mental side of MMA sorted and that has always been his weakness in the past.

The first round will be crucial as Vitor is known for catching his opponents early and with his KO power and handspeed as well as Andy preferring to start tentatively as he feels out his opponent but if Andy can get past the inital onslaught then Vitor will break and will get TKO’d later in the fight. Vitor seems to be a much mentally stronger fighter than he was in the past, now that he’s found religion and is over his personal problems and mismanagement, but the longer this fight goes the more it’ll suit Andy. On the ground they’re both BJJ black belts but I’d give Andy the edge as he has the more dangerous guard and his submission defence is much improved from his Pride days.

I think that Andy will win in a hard fought decision but he’ll be pushed hard by Vitor in the early rounds. This will end up being a similar fight to Machida-Shogun as both guys will respect each others power and both will look to counterpunch, though ultimately Andy will have the superior cardio and accuracy to pull out the win after 5 tough rounds. I’ll be happy whoever wins and they’ll both go down as legends in my opinion.

Well said..

The outcome you predicted is probably right but for some reason I can also picture anderson just whooping Vitor from start to finish…

The reason I say this is because recently andy has been really pushing forward trying to egg fighters on to trade with him and the real reason is becuase I remember me thinking that Hendo was gonna put andy in his place once he felt his power but it turned out that andy didn’t have any more probs with Hendo than he has had with any fighter whatsoever…
I’ve said this time and time again No one as of yet has been able to put andy in a war period and that is more than what I can say for any fighter including GSP…

by Roger81 on Jan 7, 2010 10:42 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed, since Pride every fight has been a walkover for Andy (other than the BS DQ loss to Okami, a fight which he was winning anyway) and he has looked a class above everyone. His agility and accuracy in his striking is unmatched by anyone in MMA and his BJJ is also very slick and he can finish top grapplers on the ground as well as KO anyone that he faces. Nobody has been as dominant as him in the UFC, not even GSP or BJ, even LHWs have been smashed by Andy, if anything he looks better at 205.

I think that Vitor will be his toughest test because he’s started using the karate style perfected by Machida and in the Franklin fight was very patient and looked for an opening before striking, that’s why I think that this will be a very close and technical fight (a la Machida-Shogun) as both guys are counterpunchers and if either find an opening then they have the speed, power and accuracy to finish their opponent. This fight and Machida-Shogun II are the closest that I’ll ever get to see Andy-Machida, unless they have a huge falling out, so it’ll be a pleasure to watch these close and competetive fights between the best fighters in the world.

I am so excited for this fight, I’ll be cheering them both on as they’re both class acts in and out of the ring, but it’ll be hard to watch either man lose. I just hope that their is a definitive winner and the fight isn’t tainted by some BS referee or judge’s decison.

They are the ones sending people all over the country to get the sport sanctioned in your state. The guy is brilliant and living the american dream and you are not and that’s what you cant stand about him. Grow up, learn some respect!
