no more of a freak show than Kimbo, Alexander, or anyone else with little to no ground game
" have you ever been kicked in the leg?"
“Um ya, I train front kick, back kick, side kick, all the kicks.” LMAO!!!! Classic
He obviously has good hands and has been a fighter for years. He has the mentality and a ton of experience in front of huge crowds. I don’t see this as a freak show. I’ve seen MANY fighters in the UFC (mainly wrestlers) who are considered extremely one dimentional. James Toney will sell fights but won’t win any, especially at HW. Dude looks like he could drop to 170
"Me and Michael are like Mozart...and Mozart's friend."
"No, I'm like Butch Cassidy..."
"You mess with Mozart, you're gonna get a bullet in your head. Courtesy of Butch Cassidy."
I wanna see it
If he can get a license to fight MMA, make it happen. He’ll sell tickets and PPV’s and will provde an exciting fight even if he (and he probably will) loses. He said he wants to fight the best guy Dana’s got (the champ), but that obviously won’t happen. He could fight Al Turk or Tuchscherer, then if he can muster up a win, ha can move up to fight Yvel or someone else that will destroy him!
Not for nothing
But the doors look pretty open to me, especially if they fit a camera crew inside the meeting room
It is not enough to succeed. Others must fail.
I actually would like to see Toney in the UFC
If they sign world champions in BJJ and wrestling before they’ve learnt other skills then why not sign a former boxing HW champion. Toney is very charismatic and well known so a fight involving him would sell easily. If the UFC can sign someone on the basis of youtube streetfighting videos then why not sign someone with legitimate combat experience, as long as his demands aren’t silly i.e. he doesn’t demand main event type money and he gets into a proper training camp then I’d like to see what Toney can do.
"Anderson Silva is the best fighter on the planet...any Anderson Silva fight that is on, people should be buying that PPV, not because he’s my fighter but you know what, he to me is like the Muhammad Ali of MMA...the UFC has been around since 1993, nobody (else) has 10 consecutive wins in the UFC. Anderson has had 10 fights in the UFC, only 1 has ever gone to a decision."
Ed Soares on why Andy is the best fighter in the world
I agree...kinda
On one hand I agree with your statement BUT Toney is CLEARLY trying to cash in on his name…he’s at at real bad weight too. Not that he’s overweight (which he is), but at 220, overweight with no experience defending ground attacks, takedowns, elbows, knees or kicks he’ll get beat by ALMOST anyone in 3 different weight classes…and he’s old too
"Me and Michael are like Mozart...and Mozart's friend."
"No, I'm like Butch Cassidy..."
"You mess with Mozart, you're gonna get a bullet in your head. Courtesy of Butch Cassidy."
Win/lose I still want to see Toney fight
If they’re going to have freakshows they might as well get a real fighter in there instead of a streetfighter or a former NFL player. Chances are he will lose to most MMAsts but if anyone tries to stand with him then it would be fun seeing how an MMA striker deals with a former HW world champion from boxing.

well thats my point...what constitutes a freak show
believe it or not, Toney is/was a professional fighter/athlete…he wasn’t a pro ball player, ex football player, or internet sensation….he’s been a fighter for his entire life and is far from a freak show…he seems to have a freak show attitude but many do imo
"Me and Michael are like Mozart...and Mozart's friend."
"No, I'm like Butch Cassidy..."
"You mess with Mozart, you're gonna get a bullet in your head. Courtesy of Butch Cassidy."
but I wouldn't consider his fights freak shows

Yeah he would be a freak show
and a very ignorant one as displayed in this interview.

What a douche
I read the interview. Who the hell is Kendra? Is that meant to be Kimbo?
I would watch an event with him in it. If he took the training serious, like going to ATT or AKA like Kimbo did, I be interested in seeing how he’ll do, but if he keeps practicing just defending ‘front kicks, back kicks, side kicks, all the kicks’, I’ll only watch to see him get hammered.
Cheers for the link to that interview Felix, can’t believe he said, ‘I won’t let none of those boys to lay on top of me like a lil fag’. Love to see him call Brock, Carwin or Cain a fag when then put him on his back and smash him
James Toney sucks
This guy has been busted for using performance enhancing drugs, he doesn’t respect anyone except himself, and he is only in it for the money. Tell Toney to Go F*Ck himself San Diego
Don't do it, Dana
This guy is tired and worn out and probably fought bigger weight classes in his career because he couldn’t stay in shape. I think it’s great to give opportunities to guys in other sports to “crossover” but James Toney isn’t one of them. Walk away, man.
If this were a video of Coker meeting with Toney
Dana would be talking all kinds of shit. Laughable.

good point

"No, I'm like Butch Cassidy..."
"You mess with Mozart, you're gonna get a bullet in your head. Courtesy of Butch Cassidy."
"Oh yeah, all that, front kick, back kick, side check kick"
LOL
In the name of the Fedor, the Anderson and the GSP, Amen.
I underestimated the deadly skills of one of the greatest HWs in the world, Frank Mir. I wrote that because I lost a bet but honestly, he really did impress me. I'm well on the Frank wagon

DUMBASS!
Listening to him talks it sounds like he thinks he should be given a contract in the UFC right away cause he’s James Toney (at one time a great boxer, watch some of his fights if you don’t believe, he had laser fast hands, probably still has faster hands then 90% of current UFC fighters). I mean, how can Dana take anyone seriously that’s been practicing throwing back side check kicks, he doesn’t even know what checking a kick is. Also he would get fucking raped at HW, the only way he would stand a chance is if you put him against someone who you know would stay and stand (Cheick Kongo maybe?) He would fare much better at 205 but still get stuffed by wrestlers with ease.
Every fighter has a plan until he gets hit
watched Toney's highlights
if the guy who was on the highlights on youtube goes in the octagon and the mma fighter decides to stand with him, Toney will win every time unless they fix the fight. Boxers are always going to be superior in the standup to MMA fighters. Now, leg kicks could change things I guess but not enough unless the fighter is a 2005 Crocop.
Just simply not true.
One MUST put it in context. Boxers don’t worry about kicks, knees, elbows, takedowns, etc. Add all of those elements in, and EVERYTHING changes. (ex. Stance)
Can’t just rely on your hands, if your opponent is smart he’ll recognize, adjust, and take you out.
