UFC 108 medical suspensions and injuries for 'Evans vs Silva'

Ouch

Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today issued its list of medical suspensions for UFC 108: "Evans vs. Silva," which took place on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

With several of the bouts ending early (and viciously), there were a handful of fighters who were flagged follow up visits with their doctors.

Chief among them are Dustin Hazelett (right orbital blowout/nasal fracture) — who was welcomed back after several months with several unanswered Paul Daley knuckle sandwiches  — and Mark Munoz (right hand/wrist) -- who may have busted something beating Ryan Jensen literally into verbal submission.

But that's not all.

Here is the complete list of UFC 108 injuries and their medical instructions:

Star-divide

  • Dustin Hazelett: Suspended until July 2, 2010, for right orbital blowout/nasal fracture unless physician clears him to return sooner; No contest until at least March 4, 2010, and no contact until Feb. 2, 2010.
  • Sam Stout: Suspended until Feb. 2, 2010, and no contact until Jan. 23, 2010, for a left forehead laceration.
  • Gilbert Yvel: Suspended until Feb. 2, 2010, and no contact until Jan. 23, 2010.
  • Jacob Volkmann: Suspended until Feb. 2, 2010, and no contact until Jan. 23, 2010.
  • Mark Munoz: Suspended until July 2, 2010, for right hand/wrist/elbow injury unless physician clears him to return sooner.
  • Ryan Jensen: Suspended until Jan. 23, 2010, and no contact until Jan. 16, 2010.
  • Mike Pyle: Suspended until Feb. 2, 2010, and no contact until Jan. 23, 2010.

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.

painful to see Gilbert's boxing and him sticking his chin up.

but even more the size disadvantage, really needs to cut to 205 if he’s gonna have a successful pro MMA career.

sometimes the beauty is in the attempt.

yeah he did, he's so awesome

He should be proud of his hollow victory. It takes a whole lot of talent to grab someone and hold onto them for dear life for 10+ minutes.

Rashad Evans is a scrub

I hate Rashad

I hate Rashad, always have since TUF, but he won that fight, no question.

He also never came close to actually finishing it, but came very close to getting finished, as everyone already knows.

He, at least, had the grace to not look very happy with the win, and his post fight comments clearly showed he had hoped to do better.
So don’t celebrate when even your boy knew he was fighting not to lose.

Shogun lost a close decision! Everyone get crazy!

Hahaha

Rashad is the shit!

he really is shit. with that display im doubtful he would beat Tito in a rematch, Tito is much bigger and could easily control him in the clinch, and his boxing defense is too good to let Rashad land something big.

sometimes the beauty is in the attempt.

Even worse is the display Silva put on. If you don’t want to be slammed, stuff the shot….if you’re not good enough, too bad for you.

Even worse was the display Rashad put on

He’s too afraid to actually fight so instead he grabs and holds and prays for dear life that he doesn’t have to stand up and actually fight. If you’re not man enough to fight then don’t get in the cage.

Rashad should be happy though. He really got that revenge he was talking about. He really got Silva back for beating the consciousness out of Jardine. At least if his idea of revenge is forcing Silva to be dry humped by a man.

i think the telling fact about Rashad was I read he landed THREE strikes on the ground. i’m all for imposing your will, controlling the octagon…blah blah…but you gotta do more than just run the guy down and lay on top. seriously.

Gatti. Dekkers. Pele. Aoki. Kang. Vanderlei. Basillio. Harry Greb.

Nice

A succesful 1st card of 2010 I must say. Props to Joe Silva!!!!!!!! What a match making night huh mmamaniacs! If GSP EVER happens to loser th WW belt. It will be Paul Semtex Daley who dethrones him. And before all you hardcores start the chirp show about his ground game (Which has yet to be seen) He DOES have 1 punch KO Power. GSP is my boy, but those are some SCARY Mitts Semtex has. Agreed?!?!

Paul Daley

VS TIAGO ALVES. This fight NEEDS TO HAPPEN!!! I could see this def being a Main Event for an International card especially in the UK. IT WOULD DEF be a co-main event At any UFC. MAKE IT HAPPEN UFC

Totally agree Real Z

Two sluggers like these guys going at it would be nice to see. I have yet to see Daley’s ground game (save the poor showing in his loss to Shields) so that might be the advantage to Alves. But that’s only IF, Thiago tries to take it to the ground. Two guys with ego’s like Daley’s and Alves’ will surely be hammering on each other to prove who’s the better striker.
