He's working hard to pass, but Mackens isn't allowing it. Mackens is also starting to land some punches from his back now too, but DT is maintaining the top position. Great Card.

Wish Fabiano was on the Main Card but he was embarrased last fight. Also bummed Tamura wont make the main card. either of those fighst are better then the 5th slated main card fight.

Anyways, Varner, Bendo, Urijah and Mike Thomas Brown all on one card make this a pretty stacked card. Even more so when you think these 3 things.

1. Bendo’s coming off one hell of an entertaining fight with Cerrone, also Varner is returning off an injury suffered in his very exciting fight with Cerrone. So two guys that are fun to watch going for 5 rounds.

2. Urijah’s return. One of the most exciting fighters around, fighting a very dangerous Assuncao that very well may hav the tools to upset Faber.

3. Return of Mike Thomas Brown. We will see if he returns to his world beater status or will be shaken after being absolutely dominated by Aldo.

Very good card

and I agreed in the matter that I’d like to see a number of the undercard fights. However, I’m actually looking forward to Mackens Semerzier vs. Deividas Taurosevicius. This should be really entertaining and has several important fights. Hopefully it lives to the billing, but in all honesty I don’t ever remember being the least bit dissapointed with a WEC card.

8 replies. Really?

WEC still gets no respect. I am looking forward to this more than UFC 108 or 109. Awesome card.

Do not. I repeat, do not, go to mma-core.com. I made the mistake of watching a couple UFC 108 bouts on there and I am still trying to get all the viruses of my computer. Ridiculous! You've been warned.

I understand Assuncao is tough

but in my eyes, Faber definitely doesn’t deserve a rematch with that fight. Good for him, glad he got the W, but it was one everyone expected him to get, but in a more dominant fashion if I might add. I know it’s about the drawing power and what not, but he doesn’t deserve it. Bottom line. Again, not saying he didn’t perform well, because he did, but definitely not worthy of a title shot. Regardless, I think Aldo smashes him, and I mean smashes him. Just my two cents. Hats off to Urijah though, glad his hands are healed.

Varner has no heart...

No slam, no shake… something? Just a tap? Oh he trains with the master of getting caught in the guillotine… CB Dolloway.

More seriously though, I think he realized he tapped too soon after and that is why he was so upset. More of a panic tap I think although it looked super tight with a body triangle as well.

Henderson needs to work on his boxing. Great choke though, nice awareness and way to capitalize. He seemed to stay in his element regardless of what Varner did.

by fightfan51 on Jan 10, 2010 11:49 PM EST up reply actions

Trains with Upper Lip Dollaway, you say? He should have tried the fake tap to get Henderson to release the choke, then claim he didn’t actually tap.

by GreenThumb on Jan 4, 2010 11:02 PM EST up reply actions

uhh you do realize that you are blaming the wrong party right? That this is comcast’s doing. Comcast are bunch of greedy fuckers. they basically see DirecTV as their biggest competitor. so to try to hurt DTV they DOUBLED what they are charging DTV for vs, so that DTV would have to pay double what every other carrier, including Dish Network pays for the service. Comcast are a bunch of thugs and rather than caving in, DTV took the hard stance and said “screw you comcast”

but hey if you want to support comcast goright ahead. idiot.

by KitsuneX on Jan 10, 2010 8:13 PM EST up reply actions

i heard comcast wanted the same as some other channel they thought VS was worth the same?

I forget what other network channel it was so I couldn’t tell you if it is are was, I don’t think comcast likes Direct not having VS on it thats for sure so you would have to think Direct was giving them jack sh6t for there program? There’s always two sides to the story and Iknow this is not the first time from direct TV this has happen but really could care less cause my local cable has it all besides the showtime and I watch those events at the local pub if they look good. I just think your wrong about Direct being 100% in the right.

by Puck Head on Jan 10, 2010 9:21 PM EST up reply actions

i’m as excited if not more so about the prelim fights. varner back in action is great especially as I doubt he’ll start as slow as Cerrone did and cost himself the fight. Urijah…i’ve just not been able to acquire the taste for his kool-aid. something about him irks me but seeing Assuncao test him is great. Brown was the same……his jab, jab, cross plodding wasn’t per my taste, but it’s an opportunity to see another guy step into some limelight.. Seeing Mackens, Kamal, deividas, jansen…all promising commodities just in the main card….it’s hard as a lighter weight guy myself not to be hyped.

hard to remember the last time a UFC main card’s entirety had me pretty intrigued.

Gatti. Dekkers. Pele. Aoki. Kang. Vanderlei. Basillio. Harry Greb.

Mike Brown with the quick finish. Bet they give Faber a title shot first though if he wins because he’s more marketable. He’s an entertaining fighter for sure but Brown is a badass I’ d like to see him rematch Aldo more.

by Synyster_08 on Jan 10, 2010 11:16 PM EST reply actions

Agreed....

Aldo is on another level and I understand this was Urijah’s first fight back, but if he fights the way he did tonight against Aldo, he’s going to wake up sleeping. Assuncao tagged him a few times, but when Aldo tags you, he puts you to sleep. I really hope the oddsmakers love Faber as much as the Sac fans do, because if so, Im going to be laughing all the way to the bank.
